I've heard good things about the Megans. You can probably find a good deal on the Tein Flex's. I have to say it's a night and day difference between stock and the flex's. Could also be that i'm running 275's on all 4 corners too :D

Nope! Rubs a bit on hard bumps, but not bad at all. I'm going down to 255's though. Probably going to buy Hikarus tires when my check clears the bank :D

I would rather be on the stock springs and struts than buy a cheap coilover set. Usually you get what you pay for, but sometimes their are a few exceptions. Those are few and far in between though, but whatever floats your friends boat I guess.

you still need to abide by the forum rules. It's a waste of my time to have to move your thread because your too lazy or ignorant to post it where you know it should be. Have a little consideration for others before you try and be funny.

i think any cheap coilovers are better than stock stuff.

now im not talking about those 100$ ebay coilovers you have to put together...
something ok. stance or megan would be good. but anything below that you would be pushing it.

That's a common misconception. Struts used in the low cost coilover sets are generally not the most consistent. Also, if they are dampening adjustable, often setting them to a "softer" state makes them stiffer, or vice versa. This has been shown on shock dynos over and over.

And the springs on these kits aren't usually matched to the application. It's just a spring that fits and is generally matched to the strut but not the car. As you can imaging, a spring for a Miata might not be great for an Evo. Many of these kits all use the same weight spring.

Spring balance is generally not considered either ... the Evo runs stiffer in the rear to counteract the natural understeer tendency of the transverse derivtrain ... many coilover kits are the opposite with stiffer springs up front.

So, with a cheap coilover setup you get the benefit of a lower COG, but sub par struts with useless adjustment and overly stiff/soft springs that aren't balanced for the specific setup. This is also not considering proper setup and balancing of the setup, which is almost never done.

With this considered and the Evo being the car in question ... I'd stick with the stock struts and upgraded springs. ESPECIALLY on the MR with already comes with amazing struts.

^ Matt, you hit it dead on. I couldn't agree more.

However, certain companies like Swift and GTworx do their homework when mating their springs to our particular car.

Yes, I'm speaking specifically about low-cost coilover systems. Basically, most below $1800 or so.

matt yo face is miscon... misce... whatever the f you said earlier...

id still say megans will be better than most strut spring set up.
from megan you can get rear springs to be stiffer.

and i no haz bilsteins no more...

Basically what you need to do is when you adjust your coilovers make sure that all four sides of your car are gonna be sitting at the same height. Unless you just want them to be different for some reason.
