Okay, so yesterday I made the trek from Ga. to Orlando. Right before I get to my destination the damn car shuts off right before a toll. I push her to the side of the road and try to find out what the hell was going on with her. NO POWER!! My battery is relocated to the trunk, and there is a 150A fuse there, it keeps blowing. I put three fuses in the thing and no damn luck!! It was upsetting to say the least. Can anyone thing of a possible diagnosis for this? Ofcourse I checked the 0 gauge wire to look for a short, couldn't find one. No love from the car. Hopefully I can get pointed in the right direction from someone here........

That sucks and I'm honestly not sure whats going on! I hate car electronics, but it does sound like you have a short to ground or a short to power. As you know fuses don't just blow for no reason... Or maybe the fuse is getting overloaded? 150A is pretty big though.

yeah, i cant think of anything either except a short somewhere... that totally sucks man. check for any open wire touching anywhere (im sure you did)? hope you get it pinpointed soon. gl. keep us posted.

My suggestion is either a shorted wire or a power surge. Check all your grounds.

I figured it was a short somewhere, I looked but will look again tomorrow. I dunno, but I hope I track it down quick also......

Thats one thing I hate about having a battery in the trunk is that theres a lot of places for it to short to ground. Thats the main reason I never dealt with it.

Mine is routed under the drivers side, not the glove box. I will do a better check of the wire tomorrow, will raise it up again and ensure it isn't frayed anywhere. I actually tried 100A fuses today, but didn't think it would be an issue. I know the most strain is at start up, so who knows. Hopefully my brother can track it down, LOL. With me climbing my big ass under the car. I will go from front to back and attempt to find a fray. I am also going to buy some 150A fuses tomorrow, seeing how that is what was in it. I couldn't get them today due to the stores being closed and me being drunk last night, haha, and waking up late. But most stuff was closed today even here in Orlando!! WTF?!?!

i did mine with a welding 0 gauge cable. it was expensive but its good cable. and strong and flexible too it was very easy to bend and manuver into tight space i have under doorsils.

only place i would get a short would be where the wire touches the firewall... but i wrapped it around with the stck grommet so it should be ok.

i didnt use a fuse...

i just connected where the stock positive terminal was and ran the wire to the battery to the back.

the ground from the battery is like only 7" long.

You connected it to the fuse at the box? Seems like a tight fit there.....

okay, here's the deal, got the right fuse, blew it. tried to push start her and she acted like she wanted to turn over. replaced the fuse, and it sounded like it wanted to go. but didn't, no love.....

Hard wire the fuse and look for smoke. Thats how you find a short! LOL!! Don't do that!
Good luck. Let us know what you find. Do you a multimeter with you?

Well, turned out to be hydro-locked. Bent rod in #4, time for rebuild. WTF???

everything is stock but the battery location.

look at the 2nd pic. the red plastic piece for the terminal i just gathered all the power line and hooked it up to the 0gauge wire and ran it to the back.

so no fuse or nothing to deal with.... the fuse you see in trunk is the fuse for the stereo stuff.

built 2.0 time my friends, bored 40 over, and totally built up bottom end. After another deployment built head. No love for this man, not expected to get tagged with thousands right after Christmas, I can't do it because I am not home. Have to have someone here in Orlando do it, dropped it off to get it worked, ouch..

Was it water(i.e rain) or did the tune go off and the meth cause this?

and jason always made fun of my meth gauge..........serves a purpose when i need it to.....

Is there anything you can think of that would have hydrolocked the engine?

yeah i dont know if he stated in this thread but the meth kit got stuck on and swamped the cylinders with meth/water............

ultm8mind

The pump was stuck on but I think that was only part of the issue. It wasn't on when I broke down, so I don't think it was that. I think there was too much oil in the engine, went to get an oil change instead of doing it myself and they over filled it. I think the head gasket went from that....

Sorry for missing that in an earlier post. Yet another reason that keeps me from going meth, I know this is a rather random occurrence as I've never heard of anyone bending a rod because the pump was stuck on, but I think I'm just going to go with a race gas tune.

I'm guessing the cylinder getting flooded damaged the rod when you tried to crank it over?

ultm8mind

yeah Tripper, a little something called hydro-lock, head gasket goes, water and coolant into pistons, since you can't compress water, snap goes the rod.....and yes I stayed 2.0 on the build, lol

Drove ALL day and night it seemed, got back Monday at 230am, had to be up at 5am for PT. Then ran 4 1/2 miles on like 2 hours of sleep and not running for about a month. IT SUCKED!! I was hurting, sore now too, someone gimme a massage, LOL. But I made it home gents, thanks to an Enterprise Rent A Car.......
