Well, I am finished with the first phase of my carputer setup for the X. Here are some pictures of it. (I am still cleaning up the mess :D )

7 Inch Touchscreen custom mounted behind dash kit.

Another picture of the dash.

USB Hub mounted where the factory AUX ports were and the DVDRW Drive.

Computer itself mounted under the driver's seat. It is a little messy in the picture, but this was right after I put the seat back in.

Where I have the USB cable hidden for my OpenPort 2.0 when it is not in use.

---------------

This is just the beginning stages, but as now it has the following features:

Wireless internet through Wifi and 3G services
Navigation
DVD / DiVX / Xvid (any codec you can think of is pretty much installed)
Bluetooth support (VOIP, Handsfree, Music Streaming, etc)
XM Radio
HD Radio (along with regular AM/FM)
Backup Camera
ODBII Diagnostics (ECUFlash Coming soon, and EVOScan once it supports the X and the OpenPort 2.0 cable so I can use it for my gauges and logging)

The whole system can be controlled through the touchscreen or through voice commands.

---------------

When the X gets close enough to my house to pick up my home WiFi network, it automatically starts syncing my MP3 collection from my home server (about 100 GB). Next I will have it keep a constant connection to my home network over the 3G connection.

Currently I am trying to finish up the fiberglass box for the trunk to hold my subs and amps.

Figured I would share some pics of the fiberglass box that we are building to compliment the carputer.

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c39/supremex666/DSCF1177640x480.jpg

Removed the spare tire and built the box into the well. The subs are OZ Audio Matrix Elite 12s.

Yes this is real carbon fiber!!

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c39/supremex666/DSCF1180640x480.jpg

I have the sub amp mounted to the roof of the trunk.

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c39/supremex666/DSCF1179640x480.jpg

Closeup of the amp. It is a US Amps MD2. Birth sheet read 1875 x 1 @ 1ohm.

Once finished the chrome amp you see in the picture that is behind the box, will be mounted next to the box along with a matching one of them on the other side. Those amps are US Amps 4300X, some good old school amps with a THD rating of .006%. These are running bridged to my components at 180w x 2 @ 4ohm.

Nice. What kind of money is a carputer set-up like this? I wanted to do a nice stereo set-up in my Evo like I have for my Bimmer, but I just couldn't talk my self into the added weight. If I end up keeping my car I may install a small free air sub or 2 in the rear deck, but not much more than that. I'd offer assistance in helping with the fiberglass box, but something tells me you know what you are doing. :)

The carputer itself is about 1200. And for the added weight, you just need to increase the horsepower to compensate :)

I loss 30 lbs off the rear by removing the tow hitches. And then the loss of the spare tire (40 lbs) and jack, I figure the added weight of the stereo evens out.

The fiberglass work is finished, now it is time to just pretty things up and add some wood to level out the false floor of the trunk. I need to buy some more CF as I am planning on finishing off the entire trunk in it and some plexi-glass.

Yeah, but the added horsepower is even better without the added weight. :D The fiberglass/MDF box I built for the Bimmer must have been atleast 100lbs with the sub. I just couldn't bring myself to do it to the Evo. Anyhow your car is looking great. Keep us updated with pics of the progress.

Sounds good. There is another guy on here that sent me a PM that lives close. Hell, he even asked me about my neighbors car so I hope he is nearby or I already have a stalker .. lol

I saw a black x, might have been a MR awhile back on 74, but no idea who it was.

There is a black X non SSS package GSR that belongs to a lady that works in the same building as me (which is right off of 74) in PTC also. I need to see if I can find her cause I am trying to get rid of the factory rockford system. lol

No I don't work there. The shop I go to is Fritz's Custom in Peachtree City.

Not yet, I am hoping soon to finally finish it up. Wife had a few doctor visits and I have been having some dental work done (broke a tooth a week ago and now my mouth is killing me from the root canal today) along with some websites I have been working on for some companies, I just haven't finished it up yet.
