Hey guys, this is directed specifically at you Evo X guys. We are looking into becoming pro tuners for the Evo X. This would give us the ability to do custom dyno tunes using the cobb access port. I have spoken to a few of you recently about this. I need 3 X's to commit into diong tunes here and I can have Sharif order the software. If you are interested and or know anyone who is, please direct them here. The sooner we have 3 commited the sooner we can get the software and get you guys tuned. Let me know asap ;)

$625 for the Cobb AP and how much would the tunes run?
I know we already have one EVO X GA owner whom ordered it the AP on here already.

Hmm, maybe I can be swain to follow, haha.
Sucks being poor :(

BlewByYouEvoVIII

Its $625.50 for the Access Port
$300 for the tuning if the AP was purchased through us
$375 for the tuning if the AP was bought elsewhere

What about re-tunes? I'll likely never be a Cobb Pro Tuner, so I'm just curious how the process works ...

BlewByYouEvoVIII
12-09-2008, 05:46 PM
Cobb Pro Tuners are given the opportunity to buy the software needed to do custom dyno flashes using the cobb access port. The Pro Tuner has to buy the software from Cobb for each individual car that is desired to be tuned. For instance, we woudl have to purchase the software needed to be able to tune the X using the AP. This is 100x more effective than the preloaded maps that you can find online from Cobb.

$1000 for a tune... oh what we go through for our cars lol

BlewByYouEvoVIII
12-09-2008, 06:02 PM
lol ya, but you have to figure that the AP alone is usually $695 and thats without a custom tune. $300-$375 is not a bad price for a dyno tune. Even the EcuTek after tuning and dyno time will run you close to $1000.

Cobb usually releases the user level tuning software about 6 months after the device is released. You can currently tune the Evo VIII, IX, Subaru WRX/STi '02 to '08 and the RX8 on the AP V2 yourself, but not the GTR or the Evo X. This allows the Pro Tuners that 6 months to make some profit with little self-tuner pushback, which is fair.

After that the user can make the choice they want and tune themselves if they want ... most people still won't do that. I don't blame them ... with the hours I've spent learning this crap it would almost be worth it to just let someone else deal with it ... lol.

Im not sure... Both mine and robb's were supposed to come preloaded with tunes from dynoflash (not perfect, but ballpark tunes). His came without it, and im still waiting on mine (wouldnt be surprised now if it didnt have one). Not sure whether i wanna drop the money before i deploy to have it tuned now, or do it later... Not even sure if you guys could have it set up before i leave!

AEM dont offer standalones for the X yet?

im glad i dont have the X. $1000 for a tune is just rediculous.

tuning price forged has is i guess reasonable but i cant justify paying $700+ for a device that some might use just once or twice to tune their car.

Matt, I dont believe the self tuning software is going to be available to the open public for the gtr, x, or new model sti. the pro tuners are having to pay a great deal of money to even get this software, i believe if it was offered openly to everyone in a few months the pro tuners would get very upset.

Joey, thats a good idea.

I believe our price is very fair for tuning, its the cost of the actual AP thats a killer.

are you sure we're talking about the same thing. The software gives you the ability to make every adjustment, not just change the maps, etc. Its completely tunable, not just a basic flash.

BlewByYouEvoVIII

Yes, the new app that lets you tune ... it used to be called Street Tuner but it's something else now. I'm not talking about the AP Manager software.

Bubble, Al @ Dynoflash said that he had already made good stage maps on the AP that he could preload if you purchased through him. Problem is, since he was supposed to receive them from cobb today and ship them out today, chances are he didnt preload them. That's not right.....

BlewByYouEvoVIII
12-10-2008, 06:46 PM
ug, thats not right. If your ordering through him FOR the map and he doesnt send it.... thats just wrong.

TouringBubble
12-10-2008, 06:54 PM
He should be able to send it to you though ... AP maps are just like ECUFlash maps.

Yeah Ryan, I'm sure that the ProTuner software is better and maybe the '08 listing is inaccurate. But I've DL'd the software (for the '08 and all others), I just haven't opened maps as you have to have the AP on hand to install the software. I was surprised that the '08 was offered as well.

BlewByYouEvoVIII

Probably because is like purchasing license if you will use their software to tune and charge for it. Same like open source software for computer servers. As long as you are using it yourself it's free but when you are using it to make money on it you have to pay license fee.

do we still have to order a seperate AP?

BlewByYouEvoVIII
12-18-2008, 09:23 AM
do we still have to order a seperate AP?

unfortunately yes, the AP goes for $625.50 until the end of the year and then they will be going back up to their normal pricing of $695. The cost of the tune is on top of the purchase of the AP.

ChimpEvOX
12-18-2008, 12:16 PM
so even with the AP you guys still need your own software to do tuning?

BlewByYouEvoVIII
12-18-2008, 02:53 PM
We can do a basic flash that is provided with the AP. This is what you usually pay for. However, Cobb now offers tunable software to do custom dynotunes. This is only available to a select few Cobb Pro tuners. We have to purchase the software through Cobb to do the custom tuning. Otherwise, we can still do the basic Cobb AP flashes.

Evolvedgti
12-18-2008, 03:18 PM
Not that I have a X, or trying to cause any issues but.... Isnt that AP thing the unit you hook to the OBD2 harness and upload the flash. Then you unhook it, and your car is flashed. I thought that is how it worked, at least for the VIII's and IX's. What exactly is Forged doing that is a "basic" flash. Is a basic different than a dynotuned one? Maybe I am reading it wrong. I don't know!

BlewByYouEvoVIII
12-18-2008, 03:53 PM
John you are correct. The AP uploads a flash through the OBD2. However, what we are offering here is a custom dynotune using the AP. We have to buy the tuning software in order to do this. When we do a custom tune, it is no longer a flash, but a full tune. It is used basically in the same way a ecuflash is not technically a "flash" but more of a real tune. Make sense? :) The AP during the custom tune is used to change everything, A/F, boost, etc.

TouringBubble
12-18-2008, 03:58 PM
A custom AP tune is exactly the same as an ECUTek or ECUFlash tune ... the same maps are modified and the results should be the same given equal tunes. The benefit of the AP is the ability to log, monitor and flash maps with the AP device itself. The other options do not support this as they rely only on the ECU hardware and have no 3rd party device that the customer keeps/uses.

If you get an AP you can load any of the Cobb published maps yourself. You can download them from Cobb's site, save them to your AP using the manager software (also from Cobb's site) and switch them out as you like.

This is not the same as the custom flash that Forged is offering ... they are offering a custom tune for your car, your mods, your environment. this will be much better than a canned tune from Cobb as it will be dialed in precisely.

Evolvedgti

hey hey now, don't go adding a "H" where it doesnt belong! ;)

So what you guys are doing is......

AccessTUNER Race for the EVO X is available to racing teams and highly experienced self tuners. AccessTUNER Race allows individuals the ability to tweak their own maps files at their convenience as well as the ability share maps with others that have very similar power modifications.

Was this ever avaliable for the earlier evos? Also how is the new one for the X, I 'heard' a rumor back when that the VIII/IX version really did not like other modifications that were not also COBB!

TB, good explanation, thanks

Actually no, what we are using is not the same thing as the accesstuner race. Its similar in theory. I believe me and Matt discussed this previously. The custom tunes that we are offering are not available to be shared and actually cannot be adjusted by the owner, not even with the AP. Only a full licensed Cobb tuner has the software and ability to do the custom tuning.

I believe what you saw on the 8/9 previously were the flashes using the AP. The flashes that Cobb releases on their website are available for download. However these are really designed for specific modification, in may cases cobb products. If you have mods outside of the specified flashes they will not work perfectly. Even so, this is still not the same thing as what is now offered for the X. :)

Oh, and Matt's explenation above helps to describe this further :) Thanks Matt

TouringBubble

I'll break it down ...

Access Port - Physical device used to hold/flash Cobb Access Port tunes, log and show data.

Cobb Access Port Canned Tunes - Tunes available from Cobb for use on most vehicles with similar mods. These tunes will make power, but have a large margin of safety and therefore leave power on the table. These are good, but not great.

Cobb AccessTuner Race - Application for download from Cobb free of charge. Allows AP owners to tune their own car. Cars tuned with this software are custom tuned and a competent tuner can make more power with this software than you would get from a canned Cobb tune.

Cobb AccessTuner Pro - Application available for purchase by Cobb Pro Tuners. I assume this software opens up some more maps that only a professional tuner would need and also locks the maps after flashing. The customer can save these maps to his AP and in the AP manager software, but cannot access the maps or tune from this map. Tunes created with this software is custom tuned and will make more power than a canned tune from Cobb.

----

Do you have a link for AccessTuner Race for the X? I don't have that one.

Each AP is locked to your ECU. It cannot be shared. To uninstall it, you have to remove the tune from your ECU.

^^^ I was wondering the same. I guess thats the way they prevent a shop from buying a single AP and using it on other cars.

Correct, I just need you to call and place a deposit down for the custom tuning. Reason being is because we have to purchase the software. The deposit will go towards your tune. Please call me at the shop mon-fri 8-6. Deposit is $150. As soon as I have received it we can order the software and schedule you guys for tuning :) We can make a day of it :D

Unfortunately that is not possible this weekend. We already have 2-3 cars on the schedule for tuning this Saturday. We also have not received the software from Cobb quite yet. Once it has come in we can set up a day where all the X's can come down and get tuned ;)

We did manchi's AP on Friday. Overall it did ok. Boost was falling off really bad by redline, about 10psi! We are doing upgraded WG actuators and will be back at it once they come in. The actuators should help to hold around 5psi more by redline. This should result it some pretty good numbers ;) Stay tuned!

Also ChimpEvoX is supposed to be coming in today for AP tuning!

TouringBubble
02-16-2009, 12:08 PM
Did you modify the restrictor pills in the stock system for increased boost?

BlewByYouEvoVIII
02-16-2009, 12:35 PM
yes, top pill has been taken out. We are hitting 24psi peak, so its not a problem of hitting high psi. Its an issue with keeping the boost high close to redline. The boost falls off horribly. I have been talking with other X tuners and they have had similar issues. Best solution seems to be an upgraded wg actuator.

ryanowarrior
02-16-2009, 01:01 PM
well dangit thats kinda not good boost fallin off so low, glad i already have a wg actuator, what kind of numbers did he put down?? any other mods to his car?

BlewByYouEvoVIII
02-16-2009, 02:15 PM
im keeping numbers disclosed for the time being unless manchi wants me to post them. They were decent, but not as high as we expected, entirely due to the boost issue.

The mods were intake and TP, everything else was stock.

ryano, you already have upgraded actuators? smart man ;)

manchi
02-16-2009, 02:33 PM

ryanowarrior
02-20-2009, 08:50 PM
yea man it reads low, you can add 15-20% to that to get an idea of what other dyno's would read

GoBoost
02-22-2009, 11:53 AM
wow 15-20% is a lot considering we're talking about up to 60 whp.

But the number on the dyno doesnt matter, only the numbers on the track ;)

BlewByYouEvoVIII
02-22-2009, 12:47 PM
Ask Dan what he dyno'd at with bolt ons on an Evo 8 ;) Im talking before cams etc. You will get a better idea of how low the car reads.

We recently finished a monster TT 350z, he put 656 on our dyno. He went to another local dyno shortly after and put down 834whp. This is obviously an extreme case, but just gives you an idea ;)

GoBoost
02-25-2009, 01:34 PM

BlewByYouEvoVIII
02-25-2009, 02:09 PM
depending on exactly what neesd to be done and whether or not we have to order the bung or any other parts around $65-$115 or so. Depends on the situation ;)

Chemwarrior
02-25-2009, 03:23 PM
Yeah, their dyno reads extremely low. I dynoed at 219 with full bolt ons except for cams, upgraded intercooler, and with a stock turbo. I redynoed at 306 after installing GSC S1 cams and an ETS 3.5" intercooler.

I would highly recommend anyone who has not yet done these actuators do them ;) I am trying to get the dyno sheets for you. Your brother can tell you what a crazy day I have had.
