What are the clutch options for evo's? I overheard people talking about strong clutches aren't the best way to go for evo's. Factory clutches are made to go out before the transmission because the trans is weak? Better the clutch than the trans. Organic was brought up as well. Whats the proper clutch app. for mild and high horsepower?

I have ACT street disc, great clutch holds up to 497tq, I know Ed is running the Exedy stg1. I would recommend something along those lines. Nothing over the top unless your running really high hp, which your not. I would definitely recommend either ACT or Exedy though.

where does organic fall in there? does it have any benifits or down sides??

As Ed, I think his may be organic, not 100% sure.

Yes mine is organic.

did you do the install by yourself or did you have andrew do it?

Best bet would be the ACT like Ryan has or the organic like Ed. Either one are good clutches. When i drove Ryan's car i immedately fell in love with his clutch. Thats the one im going with. Also i talked to Lethal Injection when they were fixing my exhaust when it fell off and the owner said he only charges like 450 for a clutch install. I know hes done a few too cause he had an Evo sitting out there waiting for a clutch install. I know Ed has had a bad run in with him or something along those lines right?

i had lethal do it...

i didnt necesarily have a bad run with them, i just wasnt quite impressed at something they did. i can tell you the story in person

ok i'd like to know. i think i'm going to do mine myself. my friend could do it in less than a day so i know both of us could knock it out in a couple of hours. i wanna drive ryans evo and check it out. never drove another evo before :o .

yeah you can feel my clutch too.... i highly recommend paying someone to do it...

you have to drop the transmission, you have to get new transmission fluid to be put back in, you cant re use the old one, there is a lot of things to it...

i dont recommend it.

i don't know if everyone wants to drive yours or not. i just wanna get a feel for more than one so i can find the right one for me. or something like that. i drove my friend's CRX with a stage 3 clutch and it was badass. dunno if i'd like it being that im a daily drive but i did like it at the time.

Ive also driven an Evo with a Cusco carbon clutch.... *droolz...* That clutch was butter!!! A little rough engagement, but more than manageable once you get used to it... Also if you can afford it...

lol yeah, well just to let everyone know. i dunno if i can make it happen but my friend quency with the CRX has a parts supplier that can get from anything to anything. Exedy stage 3 clutches around $600. and OEM brake for like $180. Its a little cheaper than i've seen else where, but thats without shipping and he may need more money for his manager to go through with any deals.

I'd go with the ACT HDSS too, I'm on my second one now and like it and it has always performed good.. On a clutch you do _NOT_ want to go the cheapest route with installation unless you know for sure they've done it before and do a good job. Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way when a local shop cracked my transfer case and bell housing after installing a clutch in my car :( I ended up spending about $3400 getting a used trans case, repairing the bell housing, another totally new clutch, installation, yadda yadda.. Needless to say this shop is now out of business but I never did get a single penny from them..

Dyno4mance is the only place I will take my car for a clutch job, you may find slightly cheaper but as many as Andrew has done, it's well worth it to do it right the first time.. Just thought I'd share my horror story..

That 5k with a slipping clutch sucked didnt it? Also you did a few launches with your right? Ive never launched it and the previous owner told me of 3 launches that i verifed through his previous post on EvoM, so i know it hadnt been abused.

i've never launched my car and i don't think i ever will. maybe if money is down for a race and im positive i'll win.

BlewByYouEvoVIII
04-26-2007, 03:49 AM
Ya, but I launched it on accident when we switched cars lol. I forgot how high the engaging point was and i was thinking it was as low as mine, so i just let off... = launched lol. i scared the sh!t out of a few ppl in the parking lot. Besides that your car has never been launched :P And Tripp, I only launched mine like 3times ever on that clutch. It went bad because I had more power then the stock clutch could handle, i think you are still below the safe limit.
