Hey guys, Im in the process of changing a few things on my track car. I will be going with a totally different wheel for next year. On the top of my list right now are a set of CE28s 18x9.5 +22, Advan RS 18x10 +15, TE37 18x9.5 +22, and Im also open to suggestions. Please help me decide what to do. Ill be running either a 275/35/18 or a 285/35/18.

Do you like Work wheels? I am a fan of the old XD-9 in gunmetal.

The work XD-7's are extremely light. As far as what you listed though, I'd go with the TE37's. A lightweight classic that you can't beat! The RS's are great looking wheels, but I think they look more at home on a luxury sedan than on a race car.

That is the catch for me. How are they played out when I never see local cars sporting them? I admit that they are common behind the lens of a camera, but how often do you see a set in real life?

Brett see if you can find a XD 9 for me in a 22 offset. Also Im not too concerned about played out rims. The rims will be used for hard track use. I know most of you are going to say that the ones listed are not track rims, but the truth of it is they are. Rays makes EXTREMELY strong rims. I can also get them fairly cheap ;)
I am looking for a strong, very light and a good looking rim ;) Thats the reasoning behind my choices thus far. Thanks for the input guys, Ide like to hear from a few more :D

If you want something uber light then go with CCW's, but I know those will probably be to much as they are custom made per order.

Good point. I very rarely see another Evo where I live. Let alone one with custom wheels. I just ment in the overall community they are very popular. I would totally rock any of them. As a matter of fact I'm waiting for my Advan RZs to be delivered......which is basically an RS :D

The work xd9 arent that light. I used to have a set of 18x9 on my old evo. I think they weighed like 21lbs or so. I'd get the te37's. Wheels i've always wanted but couldnt afford..haha.

Man it seems like a strong vote for TE37s, lol. I was thinking real hard about the matte black CE28s like in this picture, I know its a X, but its so freakin hot and my offset would be similar.

If price isn't an issue then it's a toss up in between the TE37 and CE28N. Both are very close to the same weight, so it's more of a styling preference than anything. On an economical standpoint, I would go with the Enkei RPF1. It's slightly heavier than the Volk's but you save a shit ton of money. Unsprung weight makes a phenomenal difference.

the CE28N's actually weight just a tad bit less than the TE37s. The Enkeis, while cheaper in price are also cheaper in quality. During heavy acceleration and braking you can feel a noticeable difference. The Enkeis actually feel like they are slightly bending... although Im not sure they are. Also, money is not an issue on this one, I want a really light strong rim, and have even considered going magnesium for the weight savings. :D

I have tracked RPF1's before and I loved them, but then again, I didn't have Volk's to compare it to. Since money isn't an issue I would go with the Volk CE28N, but it's your decision at the end of the day. Even though TE37's are supposed to be slightly stronger, I don't see a situation on a track where you would be able to destroy the CE28N but not the TE37.

Would they hold up during a race? I would imagine a hard enough bump or off track excursion could splinter them.
Who makes them BTW?
bomjoon
10-11-2008, 06:51 PM
the wheel structure and the material is so dense it will be stronger than steel. but then stronger also means more brittle.
i dont think a little bump or off track will damage it.
if it will damage the metal rims im sure it will damage these... but then again you are not looking for the strongest rims. LIGHTNESS is the key.

Ryan buy set of magnesium wheels. They will cost slightly more than forged wheels and they light weight as hell. OZ has some, I think some of Compomotive are magnesium too. Call compomotive tomorrow they in England, and ask for prices and weight.
