For those who have an aftermarket O2 housing or plan on purchasing one in the future, it is highly recommened to remove your ratiator when installing your new O2 housing. I for one didn't bother to do so and because of my lazyness i put a hole in it when removing the O2 housing heat shield  . Just thought i'd through that out there for others to have on mind. I was lucky it was nothing a quick JB weld couldn't fix.

Please post topics under the sections where they should be. This topic has nothing to do with NSFW... I have moved it accordingly to Modification and Tuning section.

i wouldn't mine having a new o2 housing and the 10.5 hotside, but i rather go up to 30r turbo series, nothing any bigger though

just make sure u use penetrate lube(lol perverts) on all the bolts so they'll come off easier, and if the bolts don't want to turn u just have to work them back and forth, sucks big time,

lol

I can't decide if I want to go ahead and pick up an ebay O2 housing before I install my exhaust. I might just wait til later this summer and add one.

not the o2 buut when i did my exhaust header, yeah we broke a bolt off on the turbo flange, u ever look at my hotside where the turbo and header meet it looks ghetto on the back side, but holds up real good no leaks whatsoever, and i've heard stories of guys having to sit there and work a bolt back and forth for 3-4 hours before it would finally turn,

might as well go ahead if u got the cash and do it all at the same time, just so u don't have to keep going back underneath your car everytime

atually Ed, ebay o2 housing are known for being a quality part. There is actually a company that makes them pretty well. They are not just knockoff pieces of crap. The ebay o2's are the ones many people will suggest. Just thought u might want to know

if I remember correctly I dont believe it was due to the quality of the o2 housing. Go on evom and ask people if the ebay o2 housings are good or not. Most people will tell you they do just fine. :D

The eBay O2 housings are supposed to be great. Buschur racing uses em and just ports them. There have been some problems with em lately on EvoM. They just have supposedly gone downhill in quality.

lol wow i missed a lot, i've been busy all day. anyways guys the factory O2 housing has a bracket that keeps it from vibrating and causing problems such as bolts breaking, etc., i have never seen an aftermarket housing with a bracket. i believe that is why i had so many problems after i installed the new one. once the time came to remove it one of the bolts connecting the down pipe to the housing broke off. i drove around for a week untill i could use my friends shop again and when the time came we were almost done removing the housing when the last of (5) bolts broke off in the exhaust housing of the turbo. it was the worst problem i had ran into thus far. there was a very small chance i could have fixed it myself but i was pissed off so i had mitsubishi fix it. costly mistake.....$700.00. so i don't think i'll be touching that for a good while. vibration will cause lots of problems. be sure to lube all bolts when dealing with this install. good luck!!!! 8)

i say do it yourself. just take your time and it will be fine. with the right tools it can be done in no time. im sure andrew does great work by the way ya'll speak of him. i dunno, i wish mine would have worked out!

03-28-2007, 08:34 PM
DAMN!!! Only a half hour labor!?!?!? Id pay that over doing it myself. Cant be more than 60 bucks. And considering you have to remove the turbo it's well worth it.
YSLBTT
03-28-2007, 08:35 PM
yeah ill see. the trip up there is a bit costy too
DIY and take pics to make a HOW TO. Samething happened with my exhaust some people told me to take it to a shop, it would be $100. And Ed you helped me out, you saw how easy it was. I already told you I have tools you can come by and I help you out. :) or anyone else who wants help :p

I know how to do alot of stuff for the most part. My problem is i dont have all the tools. Plus air compressors and air tools make things 100 times easier... God I hate my shop... They wont even let me work on my own car...

u shouldn't have to take the turbo out to do the o2 housing, u have to get it from the bottom and the top, take out the header, downpipe, should be an "L" bracket also the heat sheilds
drtyIX
03-29-2007, 12:26 PM
DO NOT remove the turbo. it is faster from up under the vehicle after you remove the down pipe. 5 bolts and its off. since you will be romoving the factory housing for the first time the bolts will be torqued on so it may take a little stregth to get them off. no big deal tho. 1. cross bars under down pipe, 2. down pipe, 3. (its a good idea to remove the ratiator just to play it safe), 4. O2 housing heat sheild, 5. disconnect bank 1 O2 sensor from up under spark plug cover, 6. remove O2 housing. hows that for perfect instructions? 8)

03-29-2007, 12:35 PM
Pretty damn good. I just thought you had to remove the manifold and turbo to get to the O2 housing.

yeah probably only from up top. i was luck i had a lift at the time. but im sure some ramps would do the trick all the same.
