Starting making the noise last Friday(25th). It always made the common noise of the TOB at idle.

But Friday it started making the noise in 1st gear up to about 3000rpm's then it goes away. Doesn't do it in any other gear at any rpm or speed. Only 1st gear. There's no whine from TC or clanking or grinding from the tranny just the noise of the TOB turning faster until 3000rpm then its gone.

Now i just want to see if you guys think it's also the TOB.

And will any TOB from a clutch kit for a Evo will work. I have a Exedy Stage 1 in there right now. Clutch has been in for about 20,000 miles had a whole new kit put in at the time so the Tob only has about 20,000 miles on it.

Nevermine the red words i copied pasted from EvoM.net after i did a search to fine my thread. So thats why there red. And i know i should post more but i just like to do alot trolling. lol

the exedy uses the OEM throwout bearing... if you need one, let me know, i will get you a price.

usually the whine is pretty clear when it is a throwout bearing... if you have been beating on it, and only experiencing it in 1st gear... id keep an eye on the tranny. change the fluid and see if you find anything.

other then that... best of luck

Yeah its took 135,000 miles worth of beating. and its not a whine its more of a knocking noise. and it gets faster as the rpm's go up until 3000rpm's and 1st gear then it goes away. Also when i push the clutch in it also goes away no noise.

Yeah go ahead and pm me a price atleast i'll know and be ready.

Your tranny is doing well to get that many hard miles out of it. Btw, what exactly does a TOB sound like when it's going bad?

price is in between 40 to 60 depending on where you get it from.

install is basically like installing a new clutch :(

Alan, How is your clutch holding up? Are you replacing it too while you're in there?

No there;s nothing wrong with the clutch its only got 20,000 miles. Its a local shop here in Newnan, they'd done work on the car before.

Well it ended up being a broken tooth on one of the 1st gears. still don't know all the damage yet. But we'll see in the next day or so.
