Another local here in Reno has been tuning Hondas and DSM's for years and to be frank I didn't feel that I was getting all that I could out of my new set up. So I contacted this tuner who had been highly recommended by the rest of the Evo guys here with the idea that I'd detail his car for a tune, so I did and he tuned the car.

He was then snooping around under the hood and found that I had the MBC and boost gauge hooked up incorrectly and that the nipple that comes off of the J-pipe and connects to the LICP was not capped off, so he kindly fixed that for me and we went out and retuned the car.

All in all it only took him an hour to do everything (compared to the 4 hours and over 50 miles it took the previous tuner to road tune the car) and I made over a 50hp increase (according to the DLL power graph, which isn't accurate to really measure approximate HP, but its good in showing what the changes in tuning do), so needless to say I'm incredibly happy and the car now runs how it should!

That's a heck of an increase in power. It sucks that all this time the MBC was hooked up incorrectly.

Is a road tune better than a dyno tune? I'm wanting a road tune as i am starting to hate driving my car. On-off throttle is terrible and even worse with the a/c on. Is it the cams? or the tune?

Can you elaborate about on-off throttle? Is it jerky? Also whats happening when the AC is on? Since I 1st bought my car it's always made really funky noises and the car loses a sh!t ton of power. If it's dropping RPM's when it's on that can be fixed via ECUflash and you can set your idle with the AC on to 1000 RPM's. For some reason, from the factory, it's set to idle at 654 RPM's with the AC on.

A road tune may be better than a dyno tune, because when the cars on the road it's getting air forced through the intercooler, where as on the dyno all it has is a fan which really isn't putting that much air into the car. But you also run the risk of the car getting heat soaked and getting more knock the more runs you do. If you've got a good tuner like the guy that tuned my car and can have it dialed in in 3-4 runs than the car may not get heatsoaked.

HMM! you too. MY BC was hooked up incorrectly as well. Congrats on the new found power.

P.S.
I hate you, I can't drive my car for a month or longer. J/P on hating:D

Road tunes are a more accurate indication on how the car will run, since you're on the road. It is a little better to me (cause it's cheaper, lol), but a little more difficult to collect data, and you may not get the graph you're looking for. That's what my buddy says, LOL. He also can do it in like 5 or 6 pulls, which isn't beating the car up either. We just did mine recently, it is nice.......but it definitely doesn't hurt to get on the dyno at least 3 or 4 times a year (especially when seasons change and upgrades for me).

What happened to your Evo? Why can't you drive it for a month. Trust me, I know how bad that sucks. I couldn't drive mine for almost 5 months last year due to being hurt.

Yeah, I am in Cumberland MD, at a distribution center for mobile homes. I work for FEMA. The Evo is good, its just back in the A! This town sucks by the way. The movie theatre is only a amc 6, and that is about the extent of fun here.

Ouch, much better than where I just came from though. No movie theaters in Afghanistan, LOL. But you can get whatever boot leg you want, which kind of made it a little better. But yeah, sounds like it sucks being in the US dealing with that, LOL.

The worst part is that Walmart is connected to their mall, and it is twice the size of the mall. lol

thats good you got the car fixed... DLL is not the best thing to go off of, you can have differences of 20hp on back to back pulls. What is important is that the car feels better. What boost are you running ?

I understand its not the best, but like I mentioned it's just nice to see a change. I'm running 24-25psi on 91oct (I live in Reno).

its a tuning tool like anything else... just not as accurate. I use to use it as well. It was nice to see a graph and some gains.

Your boost level is nice for 91 OCT... i typically try to push my guys on that with 93 octane.... would love to see your map and see how she looks.

Glad to hear you like your new tune Tripp. BTW, nobody meets at the walmart anymore. They started giving out criminal trespassing tickets, lol. Everyone meets at the Starbucks now, just like back in the day.

Should I pay them, so that you can have a tab there? or do you want me to wait until you come back?

Sucks your not going to be in town when I'm there, but i'll be back around xmas. I'm going to actually be back for Xmas day, but only if my GF can make it. I'm not gonna let Sam spend Xmas day by herself here. She'd have my balls in a jar for sure
