Whats the best intake system for the evo in general? and with a new intake is a new blow off valve required as well? im just not sure on alot of stuff related too the intake. i hear its good to like 400HP unless you want to change it and i hear stuff about welding on a BoV and stuff. Just thinking bout doing those two things and was hopin someone could set the record stright for me. thanks.:)

Not to insult at all, but you have your facts all wrong mate. The stock box is indeed good for up to 400hp, but most buy it for some HP gains and to get the nice spool up sound and to hear the stock BOV go off. You don't need to change your BOV at all. In fact don't ever change it unless you go over 28psi. The best intake on the market (power, filtration and cost wise) is the Apex'i. If you can afford it the ARC intake box is great and is dyno proven to give 12 whp. But there are 2 or 3 actual panel air filters and those have to be replaced when they get dirty. I think they cost 12 dollars a panel.

I wouldn't have changed mine out for a HKS. However, the owner before me had a crappy weapon r intake on there. It had to go. I got a great deal on the HKS, so I went with that instead of the oem box. The stock bov (IX metal ones) is also more than capable unless you're running higher than 25-26 psi like Tripp said.

I got the BR cone filter when I ordered the Stage I from Buschur and love the sound of the turbo spooling up. The filter just has to be aired out to clean it as well.

I also have the HKS, and It's alright. I'm thinking of getting the Apexi, though. As for the BOV, you don't need to change it. Once you install an intake, you and everyone around will be able to hear your stock BOV.

I bought the injen with upper and lower ic pipes and it came with all the adapters and stuff for your stock bov and most aftermarket ones will fit that and sounds great !

I also have a Buschur filter. It was cheap and it worked. 'Nuff said. As for gains...ohh I don't know. Maybe a couple of WHP over my K&N Panel filter.

I agree for the most part a filter is a filter when it come to power, but the Apex'i does have the best filtration while giving great gains (saw the comparions and test on EvoM, but can't find them anymore).

I know of that comparison you're speaking of. There was also a page on a Supra site about the filtration power of different brands. IMHO, HKS filters make the most power, but this is because they aren't really filtering much. Very dirty filters. But to each and their own. I believe the Apexi and Buschur filters are very similar in their material. Maybe we can do a side by side comparison sometime.

Cuscos always been big with Evos, but just over priced. JIC's are a great coilover IMO. I had them on my 240sx and LOVED them, but for some reason I hear they aren't that good for track evos for some reason. I really don't get this as JIC has won numerous time attack events with their porsche and their S15 Silvia. But if you want to best look up Robispec. He's got his own set of KW V3 coilovers that are INSANE!!!

JICs on a 240sx are the perfect choice IMO as well.

On an Evo, cheap coilovers may actually hurt performance, but it isn't like the car handles bad stock. :p

how is a $1,800 coilover cheap??? WTF r u talking about???? Its JIC not APC. JIC has been seen in Rally, D1, Super Taikyu ( you probably dont even know what that is), Time Attack, even JGTC. So I say it once more WTF r u talking about. ppl like you give EVO owners a bad name. Do some research b4 you say stupid ass shit.

Im not sure if he was directly referring to the JIC's or not. It has been proven that some aftermarket coilovers do actually decrease the performance of the car. Even some of the Tein coilovers were tested and were somewhere around 2-3 full seconds slower than the stock setup around the track. I dont know much about how the JIC's run on the Evos. It really depends on your budget. 1800 is on the lower end pricewise for coilovers for an Evo, but that doesnt mean they are good or bad. I have heard really good things about the Robispec KW Variants for that price range. I am personally going with a more sophisticated setup. Ill probably end up with the JRZ 3 ways or a set of Motons, either way Im looking at around a $7000 setup.

RS Amor, you misunderstood but I think I was unclear in my previous post. I personally really like the JIC Magic coilovers, but I'm only familiar with their applications on Nissan 240sx's. Such as how the A2s achieved over 1.0G on the skidpad in a S13. I wasn't calling the JIC's the "cheap brand" at all. I know they're good, hence why I said so.

I'm saying IN GENERAL a cheap brand of coilovers will hurt performance in the Evo. It is best to dish out a decent amount of money and do it first the right time. This is not a performance mod which I would hunt down for $200 on ebay.

Make sense?

I had heard about the Tein's hurting performance, but I went to a local autox event and I rode with a friend that had the Flex's on his and it handled amazingly. As soon as I get my suspension squared away I'll be entering an event or 2 and i'll see if I beat him :D.
