Those are some great tires. I read up on them after I heard about them. Post an opinion on them after you've had time to test them out.

245 is the way to go! Except I went with 245/40/17 on my Toyo Proxes 4s. Slightly smaller diameter than stock.

Bit of road noise, but grippy so far. I can do the same roads I used to do with my old setup a bit quicker and more stable/predictable. My old setup was TSW 18x8 wheels with Pirelli PZero Nero 225/40/18. I weighed the wheels after I got them off...10 lbs more than stock, each. So now I dropped about 40 lbs of unsprung weight, I should be a little quicker. :D

I hated the Toyo Proxies 4 tires. Gforce Sport are in the same price range and are so much better.

Yeah, I won't buy these again, but they are an improvement from what I had.

I still recommend a high grip tire like the RE01R or the Direzza Z1

I'll check out either set of those when I replace my current ones. I liked the Pirellis and they had excellent life, but I want something more aggressive. The Proxes are fine for now.

Hey. how are the proxes. Haven't really seen anybody wearing them . They're pretty popular with the Caribbean Evo crew.

No doubt! The Yoko's were just too expensive for a marginal edge in dry road grip.

Despite what these guys are saying I've had great experience with the Proxes 4's. I had them on my old 240sx and with the turbo engine and measley 215/45-17 size wasn't able to break traction as easily as I was when I had huge 255/50-16's on them. I also have them on my Evo currently. Handle much better than my old Kumho ASX's, but don't seem to be as good in the snow as the ASX's, but ya'll really won't have to deal with that.
If I had another set of wheels (one for summer and one for winter) I'd go with the Z1 Star Specs as they seem to be much cheaper than the RE01-R's and than some Blizzaks for the winter.

They are fine tires. I've been riding mine very hard and have yet to see any abnormal wear. Just wear them in very softly for 500-1000 or so miles and you're good to go. I think the secret to long thread life with tires on an Evo is wearing them in properly and frequent rotations. These tires aren't terribly expensive either and that's a plus! :)

What kind of psi have U been running front and rear?

The Star Specs are the new hot tire now. I've seen some awesome lap times with those. Enjoy them!

Started pushing them a bit...seemed to see a cop around every couple corners this am in SMyrna...what did ED do now Hmmmmm???
Anyway, loved the grip and ride comfort. No road noise and running 38 psi fr and 36 psi rear. Can't wait to upgrade the brake pads and steel braided lines to really have some fun.

Glad you like them! Isn't that tire pressure a little high though? I still run the factory settings no matter what tire I'm running.

Not really for the larger tire and it seems to have better feedback and turn-in feels positive/more predictable no understeer. Even with the higher pressure it's still way more comfortable a ride than my OEM Yoko's.

Nice. I went from ZRi's to Kumho ASX's to my Proxes 4's and so far the 4's take the cake. As soon as I can get another set of wheels I'll be getting these tires.

damn... This really high psi. Is that normal?

Depends on what kind of ride you want or what purpose...auto-x , street, track etc. Still toying with the pressures. They were originally 34psi all round when they mounted them and the ride was really cushy ;). It might just be my perception but they feel nice now. May drop them down to 36psi up front and 34 rear and see what happens.

Chris, you should consider getting 255/35 18. It's closer to the stock overall diameter. A 245/40 is a touch taller than stock diameter........you may have rubbing issues.

he still could do a 255/35/18 if he wanted wider, but dunno if stock wheels would handle that?? how wide are stockers??

I enjoy mine. Some road noise but exhaust gets rid of that. I liked them at the auto X but I believe I had my pressures a little too high so its hard to tell. Keep an eye on your fronts, they will start to cup on the inside. Try to rotate them as much as possible if you are looking for long tire life. I have 6K on mine and 1 auto X.

I've always thought Tirerack was cheaper than Discount tire, but is that discount's price mounted and balanced?
TripperFx3
02-21-2009, 01:40 AM
Just did a quote for 765 shipped from tirerack and that included the incredibly high 7.75% NV tax (255/40 17s at 167 a tire). I may be able to get shipping taken off though since tireracks distribution center is here in Reno which would save me 41 bucks. If discount's price includes mounting and balancing that would be the better price.
