Thanks all!

Jr: To be honest its taught by a buff white guy, who is just heavily involved in the Brazilian culture (like me and Japanese), but one of the guys I was playing with (thats what they call it when you spare with them) was Brazilian and very good.

Ryan: Your an ass... lol

If you can find somewhere around Atlanta that teaches it than go for it. I'm not exactly a small guy (5' 10", 185 lbs) and I have no problem throwing my big ass around lol.

I really wasn't sore yesterday aside from the 4 blisters I had to get off my feet, but this morning I'm sore EVERYWHERE!!!

I guess that I not exactly small either [5'11", 212] . I have been wanted to do some martial arts of some sort to trim done and center myself. I am working on the trimming thing, down from 220 to 212 and counting, I just have some stubborn ass fat cells in places. i want to be a good 195 or so. Okay, female session over :D

I'm a very avid runner and run almost 12-16 miles a week (depending on how many times I can get to the gym), but I've seen almost immediate results in muscle tone just from one 2 hour session of Capoeria. Thats the main reason I'm going back lol.

Good to know. I am working on getting another job within the government so I can be home more. I had to cancel my gym membership because I was away for so long, and already had wasted 200$. I have the time when i am around, but I could leave at a moments notice. Caperira sounds like my cup of tea.

Go for it! I'll let you know how my second session goes. If you haven't watched the videos on the site watch them. Theres a black guy there that has to weigh a solid 300 or so and hes actually pretty good for a guy his size. Also I promise you will lose weight doing this lol.

Sorry I didn't even see this til now man. That site looks good and the school seems legit. To be honest it somewhat depends on what you want to do. There are two types of Capoeira. I won't get into the names as I'll probably spell them wrong, but basically one is fast the other is slow. The slow type is more into trickery, staying low, and using a lot of the complicated moves. The fast type is just that. It's probably what you've seen the most of. The school I go to teaches both. He feels that just sticking to either slow or fast is pointless and after doing both I agree. There are aspects of the fast Capoeira that will make you better at the slower Capoeira and vice versa. It seems like they do both, but to be honest I prefer the faster as I'm not that well versed in the tighter slower moves and have been taught more of the wide fast sweeping moves, but thats just for now :D.

Check out the vid. Me and my GF Sam are right at the beginning. We've both only had 2 classes by the time we did this and I promise I can do cartwheels much better now.

I actually live in Reno, NV. Maybe you and Evolved can get together and go to the classes. I promise this will even help you out with Salsa. Although you won't want to move after your 1st class and your feet will be as raw as an uncooked steak, but it's worth it.

Well since I'm coming back into town I'll be visiting the school that Evolved posted. If anyone is interested we can go together. It says right on the site that you can watch/participate for free, so I'm going to go to keep my ass in shape lol. I just e-mailed them to double check that everything is ok, so maybe we can get a few to ride down together. Ed, JR, I think it's time to get back to your roots :D lol

Do you actually touch each other(as in an actual fight)? Or is it mainly an aerobic dance/martial art?

Those that are really good will try and hit each other, but the game is to not get hit. Thats why when you "spare" they call it "playing" and it is a game. I've been kicked in the face once and the back/arms a few times. Nothing really hard. If you do hit the other person your not trying to kill them.

That explains things a little better. It is awesome to watch when two people really know what they are doing. We have a group that comes down to the Tate Plaza at UGA(right next to the stadium) and perform for all the students in between classes. I usually never have time to stop and watch though. Maybe for a minute or so.
