I'm looking for a headunit for the Evo. I have always had Kenwoods in the past. I used to be really into car audio, but now I just want something to help out the factor system. I hear that the SSL infinitys sound way better by simply adding a decent H/U into the mix. Do I need internal power in the headunit considering I have the factory external amp powering all the speakers? I highly doubt I could even find one that doesn't have power for that price range. At that price range, most car audio companies assume that you are using headunit power to power the components.
Btw, I have heard that I need an adapter cable to allow the aftermarket H/U to work with the factory system, is that true?

If you can spring the extra cash go on eBay and buy a Alpine CDA-9886. I had the previous model (9885) that got stolen when my car got broken into and noticed a cleaner sound from going to the 9886. It also comes with the iPod adapter cable and you can control the iPod through the unit instead of having to fiddle with it. I think when I got mine I paid 300 from Best Buy, but I'm a music freak and couldn't wait to order one lol. Here a link from eBay for one for 238 plus shipping: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-ALPINE-CDA-9886-CD-MP3-WMA-IPOD-CAR-STEREO-PLAYER_W0QQitemZ280224848040QQihZ018QQcategoryZ397 50QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Depending on shipping from eby plus buying the harness, it may be a better deal!

True. Mine was already set up for an Alpine unit, so all I had to do was plug and play, so I didn't need the install kit. The iPod cable is also extremely easy to route where every you want it to go.

That one looks really good! I really wanted red lights to match the dash, but I guess it doesn't matter that much.

You can actually change the color to red if you want to.

I got it today, and of course installed it. I only spent about 20 minutes down there, but I can say that it is clearer( stock speakers), the bass is better( basslink), and I can listen to my ipod and control it by the remote. No matter what you decide to do. If you buy crutchfield I have a code that will get you and I both 20$. If you come to the meet, and still havent made a desicion, you can listen to mine. I did the whole sytem thing before, and am not looking at doing anything else sound wise to the evo, unless you count that dump tube on the turbo kit I someday will get, lol.;)
I am happy with this unit
