Do you have your rotors "turned" after every pad change? I am about to go ahead and get my new pads on even though I have a slight groove in one of the front rotors. I put some cheap pads on when I first got my Evo, and they bedded nicely into the existing groove(near the inside of the rotor toward the hat) made by the stock pads being totally gone and scoring the rotor a little. However, I am putting more performance oriented pads on this time and might be doing some mtn runs on them.

Discuss.

If you can run your fingernail over the rotor and feel grooves (i think like your describing) than you need to have them resurfaced. Despite what every shop will tell you you dont need to resurface the rotor every time you change pads. On my 240sx I ran cheap autozone pads that I got for free with their warranty program, so every 6 months I just changed pads and never had to turn my rotors once. With the Evo I've had the Axxis Ultimates on for quite a while now (little over a year) and I plan to just change out all 4 with Hawk HPS when I get the rest of the money. I know they're probably fine, but with 2 mtn. runs and a Canyon run on them I figure its better safe than sorry.

Also just to make sure everyone knows if you feel pulsation in the pedal your rears are warped, if you feel pulsation in the steering wheels the front are warped.

Axxis Ultimates are great pads for the price (Fronts and rears for under 100 on Ebay) BTW. The last mtn. run I did with ya'll everyone (almost) was having brake fade and I had none. I just want to try the HPS's.

get new rotors DONOT TURN THEM.

turning makes the rotors thinner and makes them brittle when gets hot then cools.

I agree! At Porsche we run Brembos and we never turn the rotors. The service interval goes pad slap then rotors and pads, then pad slap...

i would just get them resurfaced. i never had any problems with rotors after resurfacing. I mean unless you are a hardcore racer that brakes hard consistently getting them hot for hours a day.

Many rotors these days are built to tight tolerances for better performance and weight savings. Turning them drops the rotors below the minimum thicknesses needed to retain their shape and can easily cause them to warp. Go to ANY German car dealer and ask a tech about turning or replacing rotors ... it's just as mentioned above, replace the pads once, then replace the rotors and pads the second time. No turning.

If you turn then, there is a very good chance that they will warp within 1000 miles. I've seen it numerous times.

i have stock Brembos rotors and i' have turned them 15k on them and still going strong :-P... its just if you use the brakes hard core just change them.... because i dd these rotors never get on them hard or track them... and i'm pretty sure if i did track them they would snap right in half... they feel alot thinner.. and not safe when put to the use...
