As some of you know I've talked about getting a Mazdaspeed 6 and it's just been sitting in the back of my mind, well the last couple of days i've been looking at them online and they are getting real cheap and I think I'm about set on buying one when I get the rest of my inheritance. I'm still not 100% sure, but when I can get an 06 with 15k or less on the odo for around 23k that comes with leather, heated seats, navi, etc. Im getting real close to making up my mind. So far the KBB value on my VIII if i traded it to a dealership (what im mainly considering) is 18k. But the 03's are going for more out here than that, so i may be able to get them to give me 20k for it (average dealership selling price for an 03' here is 23-24k). Im sure if I walked in to the dealership with my Evo as trade in and 5k cash they would give me the car out the door for 23k.

Knowing me it won't be left alone and I've already looked up parts for it. I would promptly be buying an ETS turboback, ETS topmount (unless i can find a good priced FMIC for it), intake of some sort, boost controller, piggyback, KW Variant 2 coilovers (surprisingly cheap for the MS6 at around 1400 new), new tires, and better brake pads (the stock ones SUCK!!!).

I really want your guys opinion though, so hit me with what you've got :D lol.

I really looked into getting one when I was looking at buying a car. It's not fair to compare it to an Evo, from a performance standpoint. I really liked the looks of the car(hell my wife owns an '04 mazda 6). However, the car feels like a pig off the line. The worst part of the car in my opinion is the clutch. It is by far the worst "feeling" clutch. Other than the acceleration and the clutch, it is a pretty sweet car. Of course, you can change all that with mods. I just have to ask why are you considering getting rid of the Evo?

I'm sorta wanting something a little nicer, but still fun and fast. When I test drove the MS6 I thought the clutch felt good. It honestly felt like my ACT on the Evo, but a little smoother. I'm also looking at Subaru Legacy GT Limited. It's honestly a harder decision than I thought... While i was researching prices in class I was almost set on it, but when I left class and drove the Evo back to my apt. it made me not want to sell it lol. This is gonna be tough...

I honestly dont even know what to say. Going from Evo to MS6.... I cant say I would be in favor of this tradoff so I just wont say anything at all ;) In the end I guess its really just up to what you want to do. I like having a car that is different, that just me though.

Like i said im now back on the fence where as when I originally typed the message I was 98% on selling the Evo and getting the MS6. Fahim also talked me into looking at the Legacy GT and I found a GT Limited Spec B w/ red leather interior (they only made 500 of the Spec B's) w/ 40k on the clock and 22k. Just all the Subarus (STi/WRX's included) always have high mileage for the year. I think that one was a 06. The MS6 i was looking at was an 06 w/ 13k.

I mean putting 10k (actually around 6k in parts probably 8k after installation) into the Evo I could have close to what you've got, minus your new transactions, and close to if not at 400 hp (to be honest I'd be happy for 350 on a DynoDynamics w/o meth and 380 w/ meth), but not sure how reliable it would be. To be honest it was your damn car blowing up that got me thinking about it! lol! I'm sure it was probably a manufacturing defect that caused your problem, but I just can't afford to have that happen to me at all! lol

Yeah but my car is at 126,000 miles with about 300-315whp and no major problems, Ryans car was just a wild chance that it happened plus the added power probabley didn't help the problem. lol. Bolt-on Evo maintained and driven right shouldn't have to many problems. All i know is my Evo has took beatings after beatings and still going.

The MS6 is a good up grade on the luxury side of things, performance not so great.
I bought a '02 Audi A6 2.7T for everyday driving and to quit putting miles on the Evo and for more luxury but also kept the Evo.:)

I do like the Subaru Legacy, but I really think that you will regret selling the Evo. Here's my point, you are going from a RELIABLE high performance car into a slower and more luxurious car. Then you wanna dump money into the slower, luxurious car to make it like the Evo you already have. I think you'd be going in a circle only to end up where you started. If you just want a luxury car, just get a cheap but nice DD like Alan did and keep the Evo. Hell I'd just dump the money into the Evo and keep that ho' forever, lol.

Alan-I'm making the same power numbers as you, well... I was on 93 oct lol, but I want more hence why I'm going to get cams, meth, green, etc. Unfortunately I can't afford to have another car because I can't afford the extra insurance, but I do plan on getting a YZF-600 or GSX-R 600 :D, so that will keep miles off the Evo during the summer, spring and some of fall. I think the thought of getting the bike and keeping the Evo will put my mind more at ease lol.

Tripp, sorry I didnt post this up yet, the reason for my motor going out was not a matter of it not being strong or reliable. It also was not driver error. After tearing apart the motor and seeing the pistons, etc. It has been concluded that I had detonation :( which in my opinion was caused by a bad meth map (tune). Ive always said I thought Andrew was a good tuner, and I still do. I do however believe after seeing the evidence that the tune was the problem. There are many Evos out there with 400+ stock bottom end that are very reliable. Honestly, I probably would never have had an issue if I wasnt running meth. My suggestion, keep the Evo, do cams and turbo and call it a day, should get you around 350ish Dynojet with no meth. If you want more power than that there are other ways of getting it. Dont take my experience as a sign not to mod the Evo.

Alan, if your interested Im selling my 272/272 HKS cams right now. Let me know.

That was well said, Ryan! I think the car is as reliable as it's weakest link-which would be the meth tune.

Thanks for the clear up. What I thought it was was just a faulty piston. I still want to run meth, but I'll be doing like what you were doing which is running two maps, but ill be tuned by SpeedElement and when I do run meth ill just do constant logging. I'm probably gonna keep the Evo now... If i do sell mine it'll be for a IX :D.

Alan- Why 272/280? I know 264/272 is a good combo, but haven't heard anyone running that combo.

Tripp I think that is a wise decision. I hope you do decide to keep the Evo, I have on several occasions considered getting a IX myself. As for my engine. It wasnt a faulty piston, just a bad tune. I havnt come out and said anything yet bu there is more than just one reason I am switching to Forged from Dyno4mance. I think Andrew is a stand up guy, dont get me wrong. But I have been the victim of more than one mistake from his shop, this one was the last straw. I think there is a reason Forged is constantly at full capacity, and I have dealt with them several times and have been impressed every time. For some reason I feel more comfortable having my car worked on by Forged than I do Dyno4mance.

I've been having problems with my tune from Dyno4mance. The altitude really messed it up and they were helping me via e-flashes to fix it at no charge, but just all of a sudden they stopped responding to my e-mails. So I'm going to get a Mellon tune with my tax return. When i get the rest of my inheritance than im just going to have SpeedElement tune it :D

Their shop has really gone downhill in the last 6months. Im sorry if I have caused you any inconvenience by recommending you to them. I hope you get things figured out with your tune. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Not your fault man. The car was fine in GA w/ their tune, but like i said once I got up to 4k+ feet it went to hell. And they did at least help so it was more livable up here via their e-flashes.

272/280 is a strong midrange and a stronge top end, that way i don't lose to much down low by going 280/280, I've seen guys on EvoM and they like the combo so i'm going to try it and see how it goes, i might be able to get them sooner now that i'll umpire for the Rec. in softball, it'll be cams or a new tv for the bedroom, lol

That will definitely be my next upgrade as well. I will probably going with a set of 272's. My b-day will be around the corner before I know it;). I really need to get off my ass and get my brake kit on. I am still up in the air about whether or not to replace that rt front rotor. It has a slight groove in it. I really don't think it will affect anything though.

Brakes are something I wouldn't skimp out on. What kind of TV are you looking at getting? I sold them for a bit at Best Buy, so I keep up on the good stuff :D

Nice! I'm personally not a fan of plasmas due to how they were when they came out. They had really bad pixel burn out. I'd much rather have and LCD or DLP. When I get ready to do all this stuff to my car im probably getting a 50in DLP (Mitsu or Samsung). Gotta have something nice to play Forza 2 on while my cars in the shop! lol

I want to get a 50" Samsung when I get out of school. I like my 52" RCA, but that Samsung is ridiculously sick. I was sold after seeing Ryan's.

I thought Ryan had a plasma? I've only seen his set up once. Like I said I'm dead set on getting a 50 in (maybe bigger!) DLP! Also check craigslist when your ready to buy. A friend here in Reno bought a year old Samsung 42" (I think its 42") DLP TV for 700 bucks. They also got a 400 dollars matching stand and 300 dollar progressive scan DVD player with it for an additional 200.

Tripp, mine is a 47" LCD Samsung. I am not a fan of Plasma either. I compared them next to eachother and actually thought the LCD had the better picture, hence the reason I got it Ive also heard Plasmas have a much shorter lifespan than the LCD's.

Back on topic...

The MS6 is a great car. I'm a fan of the MS3. For the money, there isn't a better new car for you. They are 22k base 24k loaded with navi. They are fast and handle very well to be a FWD car.

I would much rather have the MS3 even though I like the look of the MS6 more. The only thing I don't like is that it's FWD.

They are very fun cars! I rode in Dyno4mance's and loved it! Its actually the only FWD car i have nothing against as Welerly pointed out it does oversteer instead of understeer, but with all the snow and snowboarding I do AWD is a huge help! Thats what I was debating on the MS6.
