Man, what's up with everyone? You guys avoid posting here or what? Alex, did you run everyone off? Ha!

For anyone that cares, I'm moving back to Atlanta in the next 30 - 45 days. That's right. Much to many people's despair, I will be back.

And, I will be switching sides when I get back and possibly buying a 350Z. :-D Why? I don't know... it's more of a grown up fast car, I guess. haha. I'm not sure though... I do know after I close on our new mortgage that I will be on the market for a new car because I miss driving a car! Shiloh gets the 4Runner and I will be buying a new one.

We're getting a condo in Atlanta/Buckhead and we'll be in Atlanta this coming weekend to pick one out and write a contract on it.

So, maybe I'll see you guys soon. Maybe we can meet up and go out one night when I get back.

Sweet! Welcome back, Dean.

350Z's are nothing to be ashamed of. They are great cars. A little expensive to make fast though.

Sweet man! Cant wait till you get back. Just so you know, the z wont be able to hang with the Evo without spending 8K into it on forced induction. Just food for thought ;)

You think?

Maybe on a track due to the AWD of the Evo, but in a straight line, stock-for-stock? The 2003 350z isn't anything to laugh at... 5.4 sec 0-60. I mean, that's better than the S2000. :)

dean
01-28-2008, 11:31 AM
It's just a thought too... I haven't settled on the Z yet. I just like how it's a great looking car, plus it's a good daily driver. I'm going to be 30 in about 6 months and I'm starting to have a taste for more comfort, appeal and luxury. The Evo was super fun, but not exactly a great daily driver and lacked on the luxury department too. Very little you can do to upgrade that car to bring out some daily driving fun.

I mean, the Evo is a fast, fun car and is great for the track and such... but for a 30 year old (close to balding) that is married (or will be in 5 months) and lives in a luxury high rise condo? It just doesn't fit the profile. Haha!

Seriously, I'm not a track person. I'm a mountain person. I love taking the mountain roads and back roads and enjoying my car, but that's about the extent of it. I'm also past the point of the "who's got the biggest dick" competitions regarding how much money I can drop into my car to make it faster than the other guy. Mainly because I'm not going to track my car at all... I want to make it fast enough, tight enough a luxurious enough to enjoy on a daily basis but also enjoy when I want to speed around some hard turns.

The 350Z just seems like it may be that type of car. It's somewhat fast (faster than the S2000, I don't care what the S2k crowd says. I got spanked by a 350z once when I had my S2000!) but it's also a quieter ride (not much for road noise) and more luxurious on the inside so Shiloh won't always complain and say "Can we take my car this time?" Haha

Who knows though... I may find another car between now and then. We won't close on our new mortgage until another 30 days. So, I have about that long to figure it all out.

TripperFx3

335i? :D lol

em1toevo
01-28-2008, 02:09 PM
Or how about the 135(think twin turbo 6 with 6 piston front calipers)? Luxury meets performance. Although, I do like the idea of a Z. Too many choices.

dean
01-28-2008, 03:06 PM
I've never seen a 135.

Also, you have to keep in mind I'm not rich. What's most important to me is my house, my ability to travel and also have money to go out to eat or have fun. I don't want to be like you poor broke bastards that can't even afford to go to a movie or out to eat because you've spent all of your money on your car. :) (Yeah, you know who you are)

So, a BMW is pretty much out of the question. Not to mention I've heard that BMW's have some pretty terrible road noise going on for a "luxury" vehicle.

Very true, but I believe the Evo stock 0-60 is around 4.6 My roomate has a 350z lightly modded. They are very nice cars, nothing to look down at. 350s dont respond very well to mods unless you either build the motor or add some form of forced induction. Like I said before, they are very nice cars and you really cant go wrong buying one. The fit and finish are nicer than the Evo, its just not as much of a performance car.

dean
01-28-2008, 04:26 PM
Yeah, I saw the Evo RS getting 4.4s at stock.

However, I'm not up for getting another Evo and can't afford a BMW. Plus, I'd never buy another S2000. So... it's looking like the 350z right now. I don't think I'll be moding the car all that much, to be honest. I didn't mod the S2000 or the Evo... so...

I don't know though. It's tough to say, I haven't looked at any other cars really... Maybe I'm forgetting a good one?

Maybe I should get the roadster 350z so my balding head can get sunburn?

If you really want to go all out, go check out the G37, they are very nice. Very similar to the 350z. I think they look better, I know they are a bit faster, they have a form of AWD similar to the Acura RL's. I think they are priced around $42 though, so I dont know if that is in your price range or not.

G37 is pretty sweet Dean! Drove an Acura Type S last time I was in Miami and it's a sweet car also for what you seem to be interested in. Don't rule out pre-owned anything, even a bimmer!

Actually, I'm leaning toward a 2003 S2k now... I actually do really miss my old S2k. That car was definitely fun to drive.

And as far as that "It's the driver that makes the car fast, not the other way around" nonsense, ok... Let's race. Me in Ryan's rebuilt Evo and you in the latest Honda Hybrid. As a matter of fact, please find a professional race car driver to drive the Hybrid as well. I'm a terrible driver and have no track experience, however, I will be willing to bet my new Condo in Buckhead that I can disprove that overused statement. :)

at a autocross Ryan's monster wouldn't be to much of use due to it being more of a techincal track so yeah you would get it handed to you at autocross with cars with only 150hp, but on a road track like road atlanta or something i do think it would be a different story, If put up against a pro driver and in the same car, no doubt the pro is going to make you look like at newbie though. lol

I'm with you guys. I am the first to admit that I could learn a thing or two. I really want to learn my (and the car's) limits. I honestly don't drive the Evo like it is meant to be driven. Only every once in a while do I get to have any fun.

dean
02-14-2008, 05:38 PM
Actually, according to what Mitsubishi will and won't accept under warranty, the Evo is meant to only be driven in a straight line with no turning and absolutely never to exceed 55 MPH. Otherwise, the warranty is void!

WJM
02-14-2008, 05:45 PM
No, they void the warranty the instant you drive it off the lot. Period.

em1toevo
02-14-2008, 06:54 PM
^Sounds more like reality. I did get my wing warrantied, and they said they will replace my calipers when I have time to go back to have pics taken for proof of the damage(clearcoat peeling off). Other than that, they said my car had no powertrain warranty. That sucks I guess, lol.

This statement is 100% true. Although the car is setup for acceleration it wouldnt do very well in autox. I have been setting up the car for road racing. I think it will end up being very quick around Road Atlanta. The car should be nothing short of rediculous on a track. I have never been really into autox, I dont like having to stay at speeds under 40mph very much.

I've personally never driven in an autox. I've watched... but I'm with Ryan, it's never really interested me all that much. Even if you've never been, that doesn't mean that you can't have an opinion on it. Ya know? There are some things that grab our attention and sparks an immediate interest, there are other things that don't. I personally like the idea of racing at a track much better than an autox. I'll be willing to try both, but still... when I think of track racing I think "Exciting. I want to do that one day." When I think of autox I think "Meh, if I ever get time I'll give it a shot."

I know I'd get beat... That's not the issue. The issue is lack of interest.

It's like I tell people to go see fights with me or take Muay Thai classes with me, spar with me, etc... They've never done it before, but the reason they haven't is due to lack of interest (or they don't like being hit, which I'm sure is a lack of interest too). Ya know? Some people like certain things, others like autoxing.

I think I want to give the track a try first, then may give autoxing a run.

For those of you more interested in track time, have you not considered taking one of Scott Siegels SRDEC? I strongly suggest everyone do at least one of his schools. Then later in the year, we could setup a small track day for wrxatl & evoatl.

You guys havnt been reading carefully. At no place did I say you never went above 40mph, or that you dont hit speeds of over 60. I simply stated that I dont like to be below 40mph very much. If you can prove to me that your avg speed is 60mph in a autox event then ill be shocked. My comment was not about max speed, it was about how often you are below 40mph...

Meredith
02-15-2008, 05:39 PM
The point of autox is driving and learning your car at it's limits.... it was easier for me to track my STi after I had autox since I learned how my car reacts what it feels like on the edge. I'd rather get that lesson at 40-70 mph than 90-120 mph. You do realize a guy crashed his STi at a NASA TT this past weekend at CMP. I know Tal is a seasoned driver but shit still happens even for veterans. A guy also totaled his WRX at Road A last november. Do be careful if you plan on seriously tracking your car. I cannot comment on the average speed because it will vary site to site but I'd guess it be anywhere from 40-50 mph.[/
