Well on saturday night I was over at my wife's aunt's house. My son was outside in the backyard with me and my wife along with the rest of the family. All of a sudden, her aunt's dog attacked my son. The dog(border collie) lunged at my 3 yr old and bit him in the face and chest. The bite to the face was pretty bad. It's top teeth went in around my son's left eye and the bottom teeth went into my son's mouth chipping off the front of one of his teeth down to the nerve. Blood was everywhere. The dog has always been kinda mean in the past. Needless to say, the dog is being put to sleep.

We have been to the emergency room twice since the attack. He is doing better. We are fighting off infections and pain with several mediactions. His eye is swollen shut and bruised pretty bad(along with the cuts). His tooth may not be able to be saved. Tomorrow, our dentist will either go ahead and pull it or put a crown on it only to have it fall out in a few months from the trauma to the nerve. I am so pissed and worried all at the same time. I know he will be ok, but still...

I will try to post some pics later if I can.

Holy Shit!!!!

:(

I'm sorry all that happened. that's horrible to hear. I'm at least glad that your son is ok and he'll at least live on. It could have been a LOT worse......

I appreciate it. I know that kids do get hurt, it's part of life. I just hate to see him in such pain.

While I don't FULLY understand since I have no kids (that I know of), I do understand you not wanting to see your pride and joy in pain.

Honestly, I would have killed the dog right then and there. I was just too worried about getting medical attention for my son at the moment. The anger set in on the way to the hospital. I have never been so pissed before!

I appreciate it guys. I think he will be fine. His eye is looking much better now. I can't wait to get his tooth fixed. It hurts him to eat anything hard. Here are some pics.

I saw your post on myspace about that man! Glad the little dudes ok. Would like to hear more about the details of what happened? That dog should be put down IMO if it hasn't already been done... (I am an animal lover BTW and have 2 cats and the girl has a dog. I just hate to see that)

The dog isn't around many kids. I think it just got territorial when my son tried to come near him to go inside the house. Luckily, my nephew was nearby to pull the dog off of him quickly before more harm could be done. The dog is being put down this Saturday. I love animals too, but I am so relieved that he won't be able to attack anyone else. Thanks for the concern guys.

Just thankful that he looks to be in good spirits in the photos and that no further damage was done. It's really an unfortunate incident for all concerned. Just encourage his interaction and education about dogs in general so that he doesn't develop any deep seated fears in the future.

He has been around several dogs since the accident that he is familiar with and seems fine about it. I think somehow he views it as an isolated incident centered around the dog that attacked him.
