Yesterday was insane. It started around 5:00 am with crazy 80+ MPH straight line winds that took out power and damaged lots of buildings. Then later in the evening LOTS of tornados moved through Alabama. I think there were around 12 and they spread from around Montgomery up to the Tennessee line.

The areas around Cullman, Tuscaloosa (UA Campus), Pratt City and Pleseant Grove took the most damage. Two of them came toward Chelsea but both passed south of us, and I want to say there was never touchdown in Shelby County. We got some rain and wind and a little hail, but no real damage in my immediate area. This is what the first storm looked like after it passed by about 2 miles south of us ...

From my back yard ...

the main drag in Tuscaloosa is pretty much gone. Same with Cullman. I had friends in the Tuscaloosa and Pleseant Grove area helping with rescue efforts last night and I believe many of them are back out today.

It's unreal the damage these storms caused. Last count I heard was over 130 dead in Alabama alone and near 180 total across several states.

In Georgia, a different storm passed near my family who all leave pretty close to one another. A house between my brother and parents (about 1/3 mile apart) was leveled. My brothers and some other neighbors helped remove the rubble so the family could escape their safe are within the house. They were all okay.

My grandparents house about 5 miles away suffered some light structural damage. A broken window in the main structure and a couple of storage buildings have gone missing. The house next door which they used to also own had a ~150 year old oak topple on to it causing major damage. A mobile home park right across the street is gone.

So yes. We were very lucky to get no damage at all from probably the worst storm I will ever see in this area. We even had internet and cable throughout. Cell coverage was spotty so I used Facebook to let everyone know we were safe. I've checked in with my friends in Ga and AL and it seems that everyone made it thorough with little or no damage.

Joey stated on Facebook that his Huntsville store was damaged but no one was injured.

Thanks for the concern and I hope that you all were as lucky as Katie and I.

Dude glad you and your fam are alright. I had the windows up last night and the amount of humidity that kept fluctuating was insane, I can't even imagine how electric the atmosphere must've been in AL.

We had a tornado touch down on base here in Little Rock, Arkansas on Monday. somehow the building I was in was the only one not damaged anywhere within a mile... and my car was in the parking lot and suffered no damage... but less than 2 blocks away cars were crushed together and flipped over like they were in head on collisions. Shingles went through cars very close by, and the metal fence blocking the flight line was ripped from the ground. telephone poles were down all over base as well. Damaged aircraft and a LOT of homes in base housing. No one was seriously injured as far as i've heard (on base). My first time actually being that close to a tornado!

If any of you get a chance, check out Cullman Liquidation Center's commercial on YouTube. Allows you to gauge what kind of people are living over there.....
