how hard is it to switch over to E 85, I already have 1000 cc injectors, and the 255 walbro pump, which I would probably upgrade to the new pump Topspeed is selling if I had to,

not that hard... all you need is either a switch for dual maps... or a laptop for dual maps... and a tune for both 93 and e85
contact jordan @ definedusa.com..
he can get you a price on the switch last i remember its like $15-25 bucks.. i needa get one as well

^ thats the switch...

what if I wanted to run the E85 all the time and not switch it back and forth. can I just run whats in it out and fill up with E85 and get it tuned for that
blkonblk2red

^ yeah... run 93 out... as much as possible... and then fill up with e85 ... but u already have to have somewhat of a map... to run e85... until u can get tuned... touring bubble should be able to help ya out with that...

Do NOT run E85 on a pump gas map untuned. Don't ask me how I know but thats asking for trouble. You don't need a bigger fuel pump/dual until you go bigger then a FP Red on E85.

This. you HAVE to have the injectors set up in the tune for E85 or you will run super lean.
The 1000cc injectors are great for the stock turbo and E85. With the cams, you'll be close to max duty though. You will need bigger injectors and maybe a second pump if you swap the turbo.

so would it be better to just stay on pump and get a bigger turbo, or is it worth it to get all the stuff to run E85 with a bigger turbo

Of course it's worth it to get a big turbo and run E85! Why would you run pump gas if E85 were available?

depends on the turbo.... u can go with a double pumper... or the new topspeed one... i'm not sure about the new one bc it hasn't been out as long...
injectors depends on turbo... i'm running 1650 fic injectors... and i think i'll max them out with a bbklite/full... if i do a turbo upgrade... but i'm only going for 400 whp... which i should hit on e85...and stock turbo...

Start with the Walbro that you have until you decide which turbo you want to run. For injectors I would recommend the FIC 1680cc High Impedance if you're thinking about running an FP Red or an FP Black.

what kind of gas milage could I expect right now with the stock turbo, i know it takes more E85 to run than 93 octane

I"ve ran over 4 yrs now on E85. On average I get 15-17Mpg City and 19-21Mpg Highway. From what I've gathered from others, this may be on the high side although driving habits are the variable that most determines fuel economy.

... i use to get 8mpg... but thats bc the pedal was always to the floor... lol
e85 uses 30% more fuel... so it goes 30% quicker then what u get on 93

Agreed, easily 400whp. Beyond the power gains, there are many other benefits of running E85.

If you're tuned for E85, there's no need to shell out for race fuel given the octane rating of E85. It burns clean as you stated above. You're not providing finances to OPEC nations, instead you're buying a domestically made product. There's a huge economical benefit. Farmers have jobs, ethanol facilities are able to hire more workers and truck drivers have job security from delivering the fuel.

Haven't been on in a few days. Just for reference, I'm making around 395 to 405 whp and over 395 tq on the stock turbo and stock cams, but it's an aggressive tune honestly. With cams you can easily be over 415 or so on the stock turbo with a IX.
On E85 I average around 15.5 mpg. On the highway I can get about 17.5 mpg or so and have gotten as little as 9 mph with some auto-x.

Tactrix Cable is something you should have anyways.
Need a windows machine of some sort that you can use to flash your PC. Also you need to purchase evoscan (25 bux or somethng cheap like that).

I was checking out the evo scan web site, which cable is better for the tuning, the 200 something tactrix or the 170 something 1.3 cable, im sure the tactrix would be better but I was reading them both is why I asked
Apex i ITR
05-30-2011, 10:51 AM
1.3u is fine. The 2.0 is for EVO X users I believe.

Or even borrow. I've loaned mine out before. Its one of those things that unless you are tuning you really don't need it.
My car is going back together again soon so I do need it for the next couple of weeks but I can loan it to you afterwards

Dragon, if you want to do a remote tune on E85 you will need a wideband installed. If you don't have one, it might make more sense for you to come to me as i have a portable one to use. For safety reasons I don't tune E85 without wideband data.
