iMovie for iPhone

I wanted to play arround with the video camera on the iPhone 4 so I took a quick vid of her (my sister in law) leaving my work today. Obviously the video itself is pretty generic, but a little editing, photos, & music with the iMovie app & it makes for a decent little clip. I can see this phone & app making some pretty cool videos with some real time & thought put into it. Any way heres my first attempt at editing with iMovie.

Megapixel is irrelevant. The 3GS takes better pics with it's 3mp camera than my Droid does with it's 5mp. MPs are only relevant when printing, unless it's like a 0.3mp camera or something extreme like that. Image processing and CCD/lens quality are the important parts in a cell phone camera.

^This. Although the HTC EVO 4G is the only other phone i would concider. The larger screen is kinda nice but the overall size of the phone is too much for me. iPhone 4 screen has the best resolution by far and once it's jailbroken it will be just as customizeable as the EVO. It's a 5mp camera with 720p video. The EVO is 8mp with 720p video. From what I've seen on the web the iPhone takes better video & the EVO takes better stills. I'm happy with the 5mp camera. If you want top notch pictures yer not gonna be using your phone anyway. Also I've seen that the multi touch interface is much smoother on the iPhone. Havent played with an EVO yet to confirm though.

True. The comparrison I saw on the 2 phones was negligable. The EVO pics did look a little better but both looked great & niether was as good as a dedicated camera. Same goes for the video.

1080p video is 2mp quality. 1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600 pixels, or 2.07 mp. 720p is .92 mp.

As far as video, image processing is again key. Especially motion stabilization and smoothing.

The biggest difference between video and still images are the CCD specifications. Video cameras (when I was actually paying attention) used 3 CCDs where still cameras usually used a single larger one. A cell phone will only have one CCD, and a small one at that, so colors will not be as vibrant and clear as a quality camera.

There is also compression to consider ... but that's basically an endless conversation.
