Drive Rules
By attending an organized club drive, you are agreeing to abide by the following guidelines. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in a warning. Two warnings will cause you to be uninvited to future drives. The officers of the club will make the final judgments, including the right to immediately dismiss anyone who is deemed to be unsafe. An officer does not have to witness any incident firsthand to issue warnings or to dismiss drivers. We do realize that these drives occur on public roads and therefore we have no right to make anyone go home, but for the safety of the group we will ask any unsafe drivers and/or repeat offenders to please take another route.
The intent of these guidelines is for safety. Every individual while driving makes their own judgments and must take liability for their own actions. We reserve the right to invite and dis-invite as we wish for the best interest and safety of the group.
Mostly, these guidelines are common sense. We all should share the same goal of having fun on our drives, and making sure everyone gets home safely.
Some of these guidelines are broken because you are driving beyond your ability. We are driving cars that are powerful but dangerous if you take them beyond your personal limits. If at any time you feel you are driving too fast for conditions-- you are. Slow down. If you are slipping in the corners and losing control-- you can run off the road. Slow down. The group will wait for you, and chances are the person behind you is happy to take things at a slower pace. If not, that driver can pass you at the next safe opportunity.
We require that all drivers new to our drives stay towards the back of the group unless that driver has autocross and/or track experience. This judgment call will be made by the organizer of the drive.
The club forums also list "Unofficial Drives". The organizer of these events can have his or her own rules, but is strongly encouraged to follow the ones listed below:
?Observe all posted traffic signs. If you choose to not follow the posted laws, you assume all liability for any consequences. You are responsible for your car and actions at all times.
?Make sure your car is in good condition. If your car is not fit to handle a drive, please leave it at home or our meeting location. Most drivers would love to have a passenger. Also, please run a safety check on your car before the drive including oil level and tire tread and pressure.
?We are driving on public roads and must share them with other motorists. Do not race, taunt, or flaunt aggressive driving to any other motorist.
?Pedestrians always have the right of way. Pass cyclists with care.
?Maintain a safe driving distance behind the driver in front of you. You should be able to see the rear wheels of the car in front of you. Sudden stops are common on mountain roads.
?Do not pass unless you are absolutely sure it is safe to do so.
?DO NOT EVER CROSS A DOUBLE YELLOW LINE. In a curve, it can cost your life.
?The lead car is not responsible for setting the pace of the drive. You are under no obligation to maintain that speed.
?If another motorist wishes to pass you, please allow them to do it in a courteous fashion.
?Aggressive behavior towards any other driver, pedestrian, or cyclist will not be tolerated.
?We do not endorse any risky, illegal, or aggressive behavior.
?Driving while impaired is not allowed. Leave the crack at home!
?If an accident occurs, a club officer will stay with the effected motorist through the investigation and make sure that the motorist and car get the proper attention. The officer will determine what is in the best interest for the remainder of the group.
?Be respectful of all of your surroundings.
?All cars will be subject to a safety inspection. Any deemed to be unsafe will either be put in the slow group, the end of the line if there is only one group, or sent home.
