As most of you know, this past weekend and first part of the week, my wife, mom, daughter and I were in Texas for a family reunion. .Well Tuesday night at approx 11:30 pm, we were in the middle of nowhere. on I-20 outside of tuscolusa.

Started with a bang, then I saw light, then I figured out the light was fire. All power was lost to the car, power steering went. Now If you after doubt in GOD, Angels and the sort I ask you . If something is on FIRE, ALL power goes, how does POWER windows go down while coasting at 70mph, fighting the steering wheel to get off the road. I have a guardian angel, I have no doubt, and GOD has my back through and through.

when the police and fire fighters got there they asked "you got outta that?" . My family were freaking a little, (understandable), I somehow was able to think, while fighting the car to get off the road. They "couldnt get out" as you all know the evo has the ability to manually unlock the doors. I told them to do that, and run. While they ran, I tried to save what I could. While I saved some things, we lost a bunch more.

I'll still be around as part of the community, but I am done with car performace for the time being. hell, I had just went and bought a brand new FP intake, and 84mm comp cover for my RED in person while in Texas. Before you say it, YES things can and WILL be replaced. I feel extremely blessed that I kept a cool head, got my family out and saved SOME items. I dont know what happened, why it happened but it did in fact happen. I got one hour of sleep, before getting back up to get the rental car that would ge us the addtl 240 miles home.

And the aftermath. The intake manifold was told melted away. half the engine was melted off, some of the trnny was melted and dripping hot metal. What ever it was, I think it started in the middle of the car, because as the lights/power went, the light I saw emitting was coming from my gear shift console area.

Any thoughts on a cause? You mention the fuel ... do you think the motor let go? Maybe just an oil line coming loose or something?

Looks like it burned really quickly. I haven't seen many cars burn that completely.

No clue on cause. I mention the fuel really only to say it acted funny in the beginning of the trip.(5 days earlier) Due to my belief that it started in the center of the car, ima go with busted fuel line or oil line. Really, I will never know. Even the fire fighters said they couldnt figure it out.

My daughter is a beast, plain and simple. She is doing just fine. She will tell anyone willing to listen about how the "evo car" burned, but "my dady is my hero, he saved my toys!" lol.
Her toys happened to be first on top as I was tossing things out. I tried to save the recaro car seat, but by then flames were in the the vehicle and I am too pretty to die just yet :D

Hailey was a little freaked during, even crying on the phone while calling 911. IMO she is getting better and going into "bizness" mode, helping get a list of things we lost inside of the vehicle.

I think it burned completely only because we were in the country and it took the fire fighters 45 min to get there. We just sat there watching it burn, plus i had just got gas so it was a continuous burn for almost an hour.

Got a riddle for everybody. Why did the entire hood melt away, all but the very tip that is connected to the frame? any firemen in the house?

Maybe. My only thing is why'd the rest of the "aluminum" hood melt.
I am thinking its that mitsu made that part outta steel and laid the rest in alum to take the impact of of possible hood slams.

My guess is just that the front of the hood was the furthest away from the heat of the fire. Looks like the fire was from the back side of the motor / under the car. Notice the front of the VC issnt melted either. Come to think of it I wonder if the VC was hard to put out cause I've heard its almost impossible to extiguish magnesium when its on fire.

Nothing was done besides an oil change. was just a freak ocurrence. that is why I'm not mad. a little sad but this wasnt my fault so no reason to freak out bout it.
