Forward movement on new job

I received the phone call today from the hiring manager of a job that I've been waiting for. It's a GS-11 job located at Fort Campbell, KY (where my house is at). He informed me that the job should be posted next Friday and will be open for a week. After that it takes about ten days from the civilian personnel center to contact me with a job offer. Then about another 30 days until I would start working there. So that's about 1 1/2 months until I should be back at the house working there locally. I'm so frickin excited about this. I was thinking they might be waiting until the new fiscal year to fund this position. This would also be my last job before official retirement, of course after doing 20 years there. Now for the waiting part. :D

Well I'm still in a holding pattern for this job. They've funded it and I've applied for it but now I have to wait for the CPAC (Civilian Personnel Assistance Center) to use their screening program to weed through the resumes and then get in contact with me. The wait is killing me. I was hoping to be back to the house by now. Speaking of, I'm also actively house searching for our retirement home in that same area.

I can't imagine anyone being more qualified than you for the job, with all of your experience. I'm sure everything is fine. The waiting game sucks. I wish I could find my dream job. The economy is tough right now. I have been applying all over the place.

I will sell my current and upgrade to a much nicer, larger house. I currently own a $110k house and looking at $400k houses. But of course it all depends upon me getting this job. Thanks.

Thanks Brett. Not to toot my own horn but what I do is done by less than a 100 people in the world and I retired from the very place that I'm trying to get back to. I even know the hiring manager and have talked with him repeatedly about the job.

Well I got the official job offer today. It looks like my last day working here will be 16 September. I'll be back down on the 17th with a moving truck and wife, pack up on the 18th and drive back up. I'll offiically start on 27 September due to pay periods. That will allow me a week to work on the house and get it ready for selling.

I'm sad to say this, but getting a GS job is still about who you know, not necessarily what you know. What are you looking at and where are you looking? I can give you many weblinks for GS jobs.

I second this. I spent the last 3.5 years working with FEMA busting my ass thinking I could make it into a permanent slot. While I would get rewards and such, someones brother's mother's cousin would get the slot, I would apply for.

I leave here on 16 September so my last weekend I will be here is 11-12 September. I'm down for a get together. I seriously doubt I will ever be back down here, but you never know. I do have to attend conferences at Fort McPherson, but they are moving to North Carolina next year.

Well I start my new job tomorrow. I've been working on the house the past week getting it ready to go on the market. It's been nonstop bust ass busy. I've been moving a lot of stuff out of my house into storage plus painting. Today I pressure washed the outside of the house. We are scheduled to put the house on the market and have an open house next Sunday. Plus we already put in an offer for the house we want to buy. I'm just glad that most of the hard work is done. I'm so damn tired. Hopefully it will all have been for good.
