Porting OEM exhaust manifold. Is it worth the money?

Sup yall, I have an extra manifold just laying around and Im thinkn about getting it ported. Im not sure if its worth the money though. Im trying to hit a certain number so I know every bit of horsepower matters but I want to make a good dollar per horsepower decision.

How much should I expect to spend?

Does anyone offer porting locally? (Trying to avoid shipping)

How much can I expect to gain? (Im hoping 10whp...)

I can't answer the first 2, but I wouldn't expect to see 10 whp out of the manifold on the stock turbo. Maybe 3-5 whp. You will likely see that 3-5 whp over a good section of the curve, but no huge peak numbers.

I thought Psych had a Red? There was a manifold comparo on evom and I think the Shearer Tubular and Buschur ported performed the best.

yep the shearer did better, but for the price, i spent my money on the BR. I dont think Psych has the red. i beleive its stock turbo

I would say it's definately worth the money. I don't think there is anyone local that does them. MAP does great port work & they are reasonably priced. As far as gain goes it's hard to say since it will vary depending on your other mods. Her's a link to the MAP ported manifold.

I would suggest MAP or PPI. They both do great work, well known and offer nice prices. If I remember correctly there wasn't that much of a higher gain with going tubular over ported stock manifold to justify the huge price difference.

If your handy with a dremel you could do it yourself, but like they said it will probably only net 5 whp, but you should noticed slightly quicker spool. As far as the tubular manis go they look pretty, but the price to power ratio isn't good. You could almost buy a Red for the price some of the tubular manifolds go.

I would also not expect faster spool. Porting the manifold increases volume which in turn decreases velocity, and velocity is what really spools the turbo. Porting will also smooth the passages, which can aid in spool by allowing the exhaust to flow more freely. So, given that, I'd expect little change at all in spool characteristics.

I actually have a tubular manifold on the way. I got it for the price of an extra manifold and porting one out. If I sell my OEM then I will have only spent the amount it would take someone to get their stocker ported by a reputable source.

And no the price can't be duplicated. I got a killer deal and hook on it. I was considering doing a Shearer anyways once I had everything else i wanted to make the car do faster.

Most reputable tuning houses that offer this service will be about 175-350.

Just talked with the guys at MAP and I was told 8-15whp on the ported ex manifold with my mods. He said its quite capable of a little more depending on the tuner.
