Wow I haven't heard that TopSpeed closed. On this site there is Forced Performance, Mainstream Performance is a new player in the Evo world but has a great reputation in the Honda world. In TN there is Mellon Tuning. In AL there is Projecttuning and in Fl there is TTP and AWD Motorsports

Just out of curiousity why did you get rid of your MAF? There are people running 700awhp with the stock MAF.
turbo dragon
01-24-2010, 08:15 PM
I still the MAF, but because I installed a vent to air bov the car keeps wanting to cut off when I come to a stop. Ive had this AEM EMS for about a year and a half. I thought I messed it up when I tried to install it myself so now that the car has tobe tuned I thought I would let a pro. tune the AEM EMS if its not messed up

Any reason why you don't buy a proper bov and remove the AEM EMS? It will save you a lot of headaches.

I'm not very familiar with AEM EMS, sorry. I don't think Mellon tunes AEM either. Any of the others mentioned can help you though.

Yeah i'm kinda with Chemwarrior on this one. VTA can be tuned on the stock ecu as well.
Chemwarrior
01-25-2010, 09:03 AM
You could sell your AEM EMS and with the proceeds buy a proper bov and get tuned for it.

I agree with everyone above. VTA BOVs aren't optimal for Evos. You could come out a lot cheaper selling the EMS and being tuned on the stock ECU. Just go with a Forge or stock IX BOV. They don't sound as cool, but they perform better on the Evo.

I've gotta go with everyone else on this one Chad...stock ECU ftw. Sell the AEM and use the money toward another mod.
Chemwarrior
01-25-2010, 09:37 AM
You could sell your AEM EMS for ~$800 and then buy yourself a proper bov for ~$200 and a tune for ~$400. That still leaves you ~$200 on the plus side.

VTA can be tuned on the stock ecu as well.
Not really. A VTA valve causes mechanical issues that really can't be addressed with tuning. Just like you can't fix a boost leak with tuning ... you can partially cover up the problems, but there is still a leak.
If you want a VTA BOV, you need a speed density setup, but that can also be done on the stock ECU now.

Exactly!!! It really would help you out to get rid of that AEM EMS.

If you can't sell it here then your best bet is Evom. I was looking on there to see what the average price was for the AEM EMS and came up with $800.

Its hard to say. If you have a not overly modified Evolution. I would say go stock ecu. But if I could have any of the two? I would choose AEM EMS all day!

If you mean with a speed density conversion, then yes.
Also, on that note, AEM EMS alone doesn't allow for a speed density setup. You still have to add the AIT and MAP sensors to run speed density with AEM as the Evo doesn't have them in stock form.

If you like the sound of a BOV (hey I'm a ricer at heart I guess). There are plenty of dual BOV's you can choose from that still hold a ton of boost. Forge RS or ATP are the ones that come to mind
turbo dragon
01-25-2010, 06:06 PM
thats the whole reason I went with the VTA BOV was for the sound, if I knew it would have made the car ack the way it does I would have with recirculate

We can tune your AEM, but as most said, it will only slightly mask the issue with the open bov, or if you decide to use your stock ecu and get reflashed we can do that as well.

APS twin vent is one I'm thinking of. Its about 150ish used....I think 200ish brand new. It both VTA's and recirculates.
I think there has been enough high horsepower cars running ECUFlash that the only way I would consider a AEM if if I wanted to have more then 2 maps or wanted to add nitrous. ECUFLash can do almost everything the AEM EMS can do and its free. So for the cost savings right there the AEM isn't worth it. If I inherited the AEM I would sell it and use the cash to get some more upgrades.
Go ECUFLash homie.

wanting to build a 2.6L thats why I asked. I want to make sure I have a ECU that can be tuned for such a big mod. if the stock ECU will work Ill stay with that but if I need the AEM then Ill have to keep it

I think your going to have issues with the 2.4 stoked to 2.6. Not with tuning, but with the fact the cylinder walls may get to thin. Thats the issue I've heard on EvoM at least. It's meant to be for those that can afford to blow the engine and then rebuild with a new block. It'd be a hell of a drag set up though. Honestly a 2.3 with a decent sized turbo will give you more torque than you'll know what to do with and it's been tuned on the stock ecu time and time again.

Nope, were still here at the same place we have been for the last 5 and half years. Funny though I have been hearing nasty rumors of people saying we had closed and it couldn't be further from the truth.
With that being said we are the only shop I know that has flown to the AEM headquarters to be Factory Trained and Certified by AEM. I have also tuned more High Hp 4g63's in Atlanta then anyone else.
As for you engine setup I would stay away from the BC big stroker stuff and stick to what is proven and actually works well. If you'd like give me a call here at the shop and I can explain it better.
