Hey Guys,
My Name is John and I own a Mitsubishi Evolution III. Well, I was actually built from a mirage so some might consider it as that but most call it the the Evo. Call it what you wish. It all started when I wanted to buy the car. Buddy of mine went to Japan, picked the car up and brought it to Canada. Thats when I found out that it cant be shipped. So he gave me Idea of building it from a mirage shell so that I did. I did a lot of research and watching thunderbolt (One of my favorites). I know a lot of people have been doing this a lot longer than me and my build might not be as good as theirs so sorry if it sucks a little. Anywho lets get down.(Ive done most of the project but posting it on here so much will be in past tense)
you guys will have to view them from photo bucket until I figure something out. So these photo's are from earlier last year in February . February 14th to be exact.

So I started cleaning all of the parts out of the front clip. This pictures were taken with a cell phone so they may look alittle crappie so sorry about that.

So I went in on the mirage. I Started to get the engine the engine out and all the other stuff in the bay along with it.I was kinda reckless. I was just throwing bolts and screws every where. I work out of my dads garage and we have a random bolts and screw bucket and I found myself looking for screws there every now and then. What I failed to do was take pictures of everything before I started disconnecting everything. So a lot of time I was back on the forum looking how stuff connects. Thanks to Mark and Gabe and I lol I think I have it figured out.

The engine bay is really oily. The guy I bought the car did not take care of it. At all. When I was working on it, it felt the engine rolled around in some ky jelly. Guess I have to pressure wash that shiza all off. It was there for so long that the oil turned into some kind of skin that peels off. Its like peeling the skin off of Obama and finding out he's Asian.

So I got the engine bay cleared up for the Evo parts so next I started disconnecting the wiring from the car. While doing this I was observing how different the wiring harness was from the Evo's wiring harness. Everything was just on the other side of the car and the wiring was routed a different way. So I went a head began get everything out of there.

While doing the build I came across a lot of good deals on a lot of parts. I ended up finding Tein Super Street (Fully adjustable) suspension for a good deal. I dont like when people so good deal and not tell you the price. I payed about $350 for them. They did need an overhaul but I have a buddy over at Tein who was going to set me up for a complete overhaul including painting. I also bought a 2 1/2" down pipe which goes into 3". I figured I could have the best of both worlds. The 2 1/2" is for a quicker spool and the 3" is for top end.

The SS Tein suspension were stolen from me a while ago. I was ready to have them shipped off to be rebuilt. I was in the post office and there was a long line. So i figured I would send it out tomorrow. I put in the back seat (BIG MISTAKE) and went in to work. When I came out my window was down and I didnt notice it was gone. I dont remember leaving the window down. So the next day Mike (1.5sotck134) came by and he reminded me that I should ship it off and thats when I realized it was gone. Man, I wanted to cry. Those were hard to come by. Its all good though. God will provide something else.

I ended up getting some upgrades for the Evo. I got some Tomei adjustable Cams, ported evo 3 manifold with a Tail 40mm wate along with an egt plug. I also got a light weigh pully that weighs 1.1lb compared to the stock 5lb pulley.

The engine and the tranny is in the car. I upgraded a few part in the car. I got Evo brembo rotors and calipers, Evo 8 oil cool and Evo 8 intercooler. I also have a Dejon intercooler piped that was flanged for an HKS Super seqencial BOV that I probably wont use. I actually have some parts laying around If anyone is interested let me know.

So I got the dash on and all the components in. The only thing is that the wiring harness was cut so I have splice it into the Mirages wiring harness. I have no Idea where to star. A few of the wires were matched and the car indicators that the door is open comes on and it also beebs. Thats about it.

I also ended up getting the Sparco seat. This seats are pretty comfortable. I didnt want to go with the Recaro because I didnt think they would keep me in place when the car is taking hard turns.

Oh okay well. Im good to go then. I just need to get the wiring done. If I can get my hands on an Evo pinout then I should be good. I will get to that when I get my rear diff in.

Evo III Pinout. Didnt need it though

I just found out that the external wastegate is not allowing the manifold to go in. The radiator is in the way of the wastegate. I took the radiator out and got the same result. So I guess I either have to get another manifold or radiator.

Mike and I got together last week and started on the Rear diff set up. We got the trunk cut out and ready to weld the support up to the frame but the welder went out on us. It looks like the ground wire for the welder if faulty so I will change that out and hopefully get it going. Flikr will not let me upload anymore pictures for the month because I reached my Max. I have to figure out how to post photos on here...lol
Conceptperformance
01-23-2010, 12:48 AM
We got the the center console to turn on but the blinker and head lights are not working on command. The hazzard lights work. Im going to go back and make sure everything is grounded correctly. It also looks like im going to need some new brake lines to for the car. Another set back. I will put some pics up tonight....
Conceptperformance
01-23-2010, 12:50 AM
Okay, today mike and I did some welding on the rear end. Got the brackets welded in and everything and its pretty sturdy. My I/C piping also came in. As as soon as I can get the brackets for the Brembo's , radiator and fuel rail I should be rolling. Cant wait...^_^
Conceptperformance
01-23-2010, 12:50 AM
Well today I got the Evo 8 intercooler hooked. I need one more elbow to complete to the setup. I will be picking that up tomorrow.
Conceptperformance
01-23-2010, 12:52 AM
ust a few pictures I had around. Still looking for my fuel rail...lol Tomorrow Im going to try to do the brackets for the Brembo brakes
Conceptperformance
01-23-2010, 12:53 AM
Yeah, Here you go Wrecklezz1. The other day me and my friend Justin drilled the Brembo rotors out into a 4 lug so it would fit on the stock Evo hub. Next we made a wooden template for the Brembo caliper. It was going pretty good until we got to the bolting part. It seem that we have shave a little piece off of the brembo to get the screw to hold the bracket in place. So now its off to a machine shop to make a steel bracket.
Conceptperformance
01-23-2010, 12:54 AM
Today I picked up a few things. I got the fuel rail. I also got a harness for the sparco seat. I was able to get the rear evo brembo rotors for the rear but I was unable to get calipers.
Conceptperformance
01-23-2010, 12:55 AM
So Mike finished up the welding for the rear end. So now it its time to finish the wiring and get it started. For some reason the headlight arent working. Im not sure if Im missing a relay or what. More trouble shooting...^_^

01-23-2010, 12:56 AM
My Mishimoto radiator came. Looks like I'm also going to need a fan. I can't wait to put a whole Koyo racing radiator with theFal fan in their. That wont be until next year though. The halfrad is going to have to work for now. I have to make brackets for it. it wont go in there perfectly because of how my turbo is facing. My J pipe is in the way. So im going to figure out what to do in the morning...
Conceptperformance
01-23-2010, 12:58 AM
Hey, sorry guys. I lost my usb cable so I couldnt do any updates. Atleast with pictures. Well a lot has happen since the last update. I go the trunk done and fuel cell in. I just need to connect the return line. I also need to paint it too. I will paint it once I install the roll cage. I will be running a walbro 255 for now and I will upgrade to the bosche in the spring.

I wanted to use the stock evo fan but I would not fit so I used one of the smaller fans from the mirage. I cut the Evo's fan plug off and spliced it on the mirages. The fan wasnt a perfect fit but with a little modifications I went on. I also use come rubber washer that I had gotten from a vavle cover to create space between the fan and radiator. I made lower brackets using the stock evo radiator brackets to support them at the bottom. It came out pretty nicely.
Conceptperformance
01-23-2010, 01:04 AM
Of coarse the Sparco seat didnt bolt right in so, brackets were created to hold the seat in place. After the bracket was welded into the frame of the car we realized that I was 2" off so adjustments will be made. It was made using angle iron. That stuff is awesome ^_^

01-23-2010, 01:05 AM
Well, hopefully It will be done by next weekend by the grace of God but no rest for me. I have a 1989 Celica alltrac(GT4) thats going to be rebuilt for about 350whp hopefully. I just need to get the Evo done because it is taking up space in the garage. I have to go pick up my rims next weekend and I should be ready to roll.
Conceptperformance
01-23-2010, 01:08 AM
Okay, so I have to drive about 6 hours to pick these up in S.C. I think its worth the trip for $300. They are 18's. Looks pretty good to me
Conceptperformance
01-23-2010, 01:10 AM
thanks. im probably going to get D2 fully adjustable coilovers. Im also looking at getting some Tien super streets for the car from an evo 8 so i can run wider tires. that wont be untill next year though.
Conceptperformance
01-23-2010, 01:10 AM
LOL...Well gotta start some where. Let me got check out your build. Oh yeah, Update. My buddy is almost done with the brackets for the Brembo brakes. He doesnt have access to a cnc machine so he is using a Saw mill which takes skills. He cut the brackets out with a plasma cutter and will be put into the saw mill tomorrow.
Conceptperformance
01-23-2010, 01:15 AM
Yesterday I got one of the brackets for the Brembo. Its made from stainless steel and is 1/4" thick. The holes were not made because we want to make sure we have the exact measurements. I should be getting the other bracket today.

Hey guys,
Its kinda been a while. Well, last week I went to South Carolina to get the rims but the attempt was futile. The night before the trip the guy gave me a zipcode and highway to meet him on. He repeatedly told me to meet him "south of the boarder". What the heck does that mean?!. We could both be south of the boarder but we could be hundreds of miles from each other. So I finally get up there and he is nowhere around.I put in his exact location and he is about 2 hours away. At that point I just said forget it. After 12 hours ans $60 in gas I was back home empty handed as I left. So he is suppose to be bringing the rims to me this week. Lets see what happens.

i finally got thde rims 2 saturdays ago. They looked like they were almose new. I put them on the caar to find out that I will need spacers but they look really nice on the car. I also got the other bracket to finish the brake setup. I tried to start the car again but i think there is a vacuum leek somewhere. If i can find that leak it should start right up. I'll get you guys the pictures tomorrow.

Oh yeah, I dont need any spacers for that back.
Conceptperformance
01-23-2010, 01:20 AM
I just bough the spacers for my car on Ebay. They should be hear by Saturday or Monday. And I should also be getting a custom 6 point roll cage installed in the car next month. Things are looking good.

Okay, I finished up some work on the Evo. I got the brembo's on but I have a problem. The calipers dont it low enough.. Uneven break wear and less stopping so those will be adjusted or new brackets will have to be made. I also go the spacers in. They were almost perfect the the lugs on the spacers are galvanized steel which are not very strong. So i will be trying to replace those with grade 8 bolts. I will also need a set of tuner lugs and one tire (225/40/1. Then I should be ready to roll. There is no heater in the shop it so the weather slows me down. It looks like its going to heatup next week so I should be able to finish it then.

I got the lug nuts last week and got the car out the shop for some fresh air. The car looks pretty good. I plan on running Evo VIII Cusco Zero 2 suspensions. Im going to get them overhauled though just to make sure they are in top notch. Now to find that vacuum leak.

so it seems that, judging by what you've done with your car and the things that uve gotten.. including being able to go to tokyo auto salon.. that u kinda have some money to spend and ur ok with spending it.. im not sayin this in a bad way at all.. so.. on that note.. u said u needed some wheel arches.. i found this a ways back when i still had my 4 dr 4g.. and its what i wanted to get.. it looks like it would suit ur needs perfectly.. but its a little spendy.. http://www.gadgetzandgizmozuk.com/mi...kit-p-281.html

AlchEm1st: As far as mire tire size I have 2 sizes. the set i have on the car now is 225/40r/18 and the second set is 235/45/18
Ben: Im broke just like everybody else lol Im only able to do these things because I plan well. As far as me going to the Auto Salon, there is plenty of time to save for the trip being that its in October I think. Im only able to to do these things because of the grace of God. Its his hands that provided for me so that my hands may do as they have done. And thanks. I appreciate your interest in my prodject. Also about the body kit... Im sooooooooooooo JDM but that kits is right ^_^ I might consider it but not this season. Im gonna keep my eye on it though.
Akamikeymo: Im done with it. I finish it yesterday. I found a coupler at the junkyard. Ill take a picture and post it later.

No one cares honestly. It's got a Mirage VIN, so the DOT won't care. If a cop asks, just say you bought it from your uncle who is a postal worker. lol.

Well, Just got back from the shop not too long ago. I found out why the car wasnt starting. The cams that I got for the Evo were from an Evo 8 and were used on a 1000whp GSXs. I had a Mitsubishi tech have a look at it and he saw the timing lines on these came were different from the ones on the original cams. So he said he will stop by tomorrow and help with the timing. Man i hope this works :)

I found out why the car wasnt starting. The was not getting a spark. We're not sure if its a wiring issue or maybe the coil pack or distributor has gone out. So I took the dash off to do some rewiring and take out the unneeded things. Im also going to bare the wiring harness down to the main components. So now I add to the pile of unneeded Evo parts ^_^
