You know it! Only problem is, you gotta make the trek to kicky my ass and since you'll already be in mid GA, you might as well race...

I'm waiting for the Atlanta Region SCCA to start up. I'm glad it's about 5 miles away from my house. I found out that my new car is in the STX category. The PAX conversion is much better in STX compared to SM.

I wish I wasn't so broke. I would love to do this event. I finally got my clutch broken in too...

You can't afford $30-40 Brett?

em1toevo
01-25-2010, 09:40 AM
Well it's not just the event price. I need a helmet and gas (to and from). Then it starts to become expensive. I need to hold out until I get a full time job again. I'm applying everywhere. Every dollar counts right now.

I understand Brett. BTW they have helmets you can borrow for free.

EVILutionVIII

Yup, and it's only $20 to race during your first two events. Plus there's rarely a line in the mid GA region which means more runs for your money.

Here's a breakdown of how much each event runs me.

$30 - entry fee
$40 - gas to and fro
$10 - snacks, ice, drinks
------------------------
$80 per event

I already have a helmet and magnetic car numbers but of course for those just starting off those will be initial expenses. I say that because after your first event you will be hooked and will want to buy those items. I haven't autocrossed since October 2009 and I have been jonesing ever since.

I have really considered going to these event vice the ARSCCA region because they are a smaller group which in turn means more runs. The ARSCCA is so large that they have to split the groups up into morning and afternoon runs, which equates to around 3-4 runs. Coming from the Tennessee Region SCCA I'm used to 6-8 runs.

We also have two run groups and two sessions; however both groups run 4 times in the morning, break for lunch then 4-5 runs in the afternoon. If we get done early, they allow "fun runs" at the end which aren't timed but meant for practice.

I had the same thing in Nashville. We really didn't break for lunch though. It was more of a working lunch.

Don't get me wrong the price is very reasonable. I will definitely be doing some events when the cash flow is there. Btw, I didn't know that you can borrow helmets. Where did you get your magnetic numbers? Do they issue you a number with your membership?

I got my autocross numbers from this site http://www.izoomgraphics.com/index.php?main_page=page_autocross&zenid=ee48cb74b2b18a4a5be739a19d802451. You choose your own number but your car classification is based off of your mods. For example I chose the number 14 but my car classification is STX based off of my mods so my car number is 14STX.

I forgot to mention that the site is having a sale right now on autocross numbers. I ordered a new set this past weekend.

I didn't realize that Macon was only about 80 miles from Atlanta. The biggest appeal to driving in the ARSCCA region was the close distance to my house but I didn't like the limited amount of runs per event. I was driving about 80 miles in the TRSCCA region so I will seriously consider joining the MGASSCA region.

When are they going to post the scheduling for the rest of 2010?

I might make this event. Trying to recruit a few first timers, too (911 carerra-s, g37 and gti)

If you want to do it on the cheap, just bring some painter's tape or electrical tape and make tape numbers. Plenty of people do it that way

Or print your own magnetic numbers. Thats what I do. Office Dept sells a pack of 10 magnetic Letter glossy sheets that you can print directly on. I used Paint.NET to draw out some good looking numbers, class designation, and a boarder. Looked pretty sweet. You'll still want some tape to seal the edges down, just in case :)

I got my magnets here ... http://www.izoomgraphics.com/. Great prices and good guys to work with. They held on strong at TGPR up to about 110 on the back straight. Good quality magnets.

while on the topic, what class does everyone run solo with their evo's? STU? Is there any difference between the 8/9's and 10's due to factory wheels due to tire size? (assuming stock wheels)

I think most people run in SM due to most Evo owners use the same types of mods. I know I started in BSP and then went to SM after installing a roll center kit and upgraded front swaybar.

Since the venue we race at is host to an active football stadium, the schedule varies. We grab it every chance we get, which is usually the first or last sunday of the month....but lately it's been sporadic.
