Hey whatsup everybody,
What are the best camshafts to get for a stock valvetrain?
I was looking at the HKS 272's & the GSC S1's. I read a review about those both and the HKS 272's are more for the Top end. The GSC S1's are focused on the mid range power band. Other then that, what are some other ones or are these the best ones? Also, would you prefer mid range or top end? Personally, I don't autocross or anything; a few 1/4 mile runs a year but mostly street driving/commuting from point A to B. Share your opinions.

S1's, Cossi M2's, or FP4R's. Honestly, on the stock turbo, I would get GSC S2's with upgraded springs. I have ridden in a car with them and holy pull!!! Spend the money and do it right the first time. If you upgrade the turbo down the road it will only benefit more from having the S2's already in there...

I've got the HKS 272's and no complaints. They're one of the most trusted cams for the VIII. I think the S1's would be better for midrange while retaining a good top end.

I'm with Hikaru, Cossie M2's are the shizzz, I can say that because I had GSC S1's and the difference between my Cossies and the S1's feel about the same as the S1's and the stock ones. Now, if you wanna save a little go with the Kelfords, they are basically Cossie "knock offs," LOL. BUt from my experience I'd go Cossie M2, then the Kelford 272, FP4R (or if you plan on revving high the FP5R), then the GSC S2's......

I had the S1s on my car and loved them. My friend with a IX had Kelfords and he gained a crap load of power.

Kelfords are great cams, but so are GSC's. You really can't go wrong with either.
We can get either set for you if you would like :)

GSC & Kelford are the best for the money. You can try out Brian Crower I've heard good & bad things. I had them on my talon they were great. But an evo is another story.

I hated my Brian Crower 272's & I love my FP4Rs but they seem to be some of the most expensive Evo cams now so I'm not sure they are the best for the money.

I fixed the MIVEC code I was having & they sound even beter now. The tune is far from done but I'm sure they'll sound even better after its done. I took a video the other day after I fixed it. Guess I need to put it up on the web.

I would highly advise against Brian Crower cams. I've seen cars actually lose power with them.

It's for an VIII!
So far from all the internet searching results and a post I saw from AMS;
*Kelford 272's are the best 272's on the market! Solid drivability and top end power!
*GSC S2's are great too; great mid range!
Since I'mma street/strip guy; Kelfords would be my preferred choice!
Does anyone know if the Kelford's can be used with the stock valvetrain?

I hear a lot of debate about the stock valvetrain with the kelfords. I'm still running stock valvetrain. from what I've heard that there isn't any issue as long as u keep ur revs below 8000, mine is set at 7850 right now and feel comfy that i'm not gonna cause damage but i baby my car a lot too. so i guess depending on ur driving style and how high u wanna rev. The Kelfords are sick cams and i couldn't believe the difference it made on power. I went from 300 to 370 with the 272's and 5 more LBS of boost.

I think it is advised to swap your valvetrain when putting in the Kelfords. At least that's what my buddy did.

SO I got to looking on forced performance's web site and the 4R's as a pair are cheaper then the Kelfords on their site I think I honestly might give these cams a try instead on my EVO I already have the kelfords for my Talon so I can try two diff. cams in my vehicles I loved hearing them on Andy's car in that video and I also saw another video of them. I know the Kelfords are supposed to be excellent but so are the FP4R's and I'm thinking bout going with the RED as well soon so we I will have the combo of FP. Let You know when I order all!

^ If this is a street car don't overlook the BBK turbo. It's prolly the best street turbo for the dollar out there.

Werd! I raced a buddy last night for shits and giggles who has a 2.2 stroked Evo with a BBK and meth and I got him hard off the launch (probably 1.5 cars) and then he caught up to me like it was nothing.

Ryan still has his BBk for sale. You could buy it local and save some cash too.

Why is he getting rid of them? I really think the 4R's r what im going w/ ulesss i can save some money on same quality of cams. Never heard of BBK's. Not trying to steal your thunder Shunder or copy the 4r but i have the kelfords 4 my talon i want to give something else a shot and I have heard them in Joes so we will see i guess what happens esp. if this damn money comes I am expecting if it does not im SOL.

I was talking about the BBK turbo that someone else mentioned. I think Ryan still has his for sale. He was asking $1000 plus IX core. Don't gotta worry bout stealing my thunder man.

I saw in your post you were thinking about getting a FP Red turbo. That's why I mentioned the BBK turbo from CBRD. IMHO its a better street turbo. Solid power and incredible spool esp with cams...

Cossie uses Kelford for their grinds....why not just go to the source. And if your engine builder knows what they are doing Kelford offers custom grinds for the same price! Then again if the shop you are going to DOESN'T know what they are doing, Kelford offers some great OTS grinds.
