How hard is it to install a clutch in our cars? Would it be just like any other clutch? I'm just wondering if I should take it to a performance shop or have some local place do it.

i think its a hard task but shunder keeps assuring me its not if you drop the subframe... i can do it on my 240 bc its rwd and the thing just drops out but the evo ... haven't tired prob will... and if i can get it towed somewhere... i think any shop that has good background in trannys can do it :)

So Andy did his own clutch install? I already ordered my clutch, so that's out of the way. If it isn't too bad to install, maybe a local shop could do it. It is slipping bad. I'm nervous about making the drive to Atl to a performance shop.

What clutch did you order?

I did my own cause I had a seccond vehicle at the time and I wasn't worked about the down time. If you aren't doing it on a lift with a trans Jack then I'd highly recomend dropping the subframe. It makes things a lot easier and dropping the subframe isn't that big a deal. If you're gonna take it somewhere then I'd recomend a shop that has done one on a evo before.

To be quite honest if your clutch is already slipping theres no way we could get your car up my driveway. There are a handfull of peeps here that have been to my house & know what I mean. I'd be willing to lend a hand if you've got a place to work though.

as far as getting your axles out when i had my shop i made my own tool. i bought a dent puller and welded a m8*(i think is what size) bolt to the end of it... so all u do is screw it into the end of your axle and it hammers out easily..

I've helped a few ppl do it, but I wouldn't do it myself. If you've got Andy thats willing to help or do it for you then go for it! I'm sure he'd be much cheaper than a shop. It cost me around 1100 for my ACT and labor.

I think it would be tough on the ground, I always use a lift, so I am spoiled.

I couldn't imagine doing it on jack stands. Seems impossible.

Book time on an Evo clutch is 9.5 hours i think. I plan on taking a weekend and doing it myself.

If you aren't using a lift then do yourself a favor & drop the subframe. It makes things tons easier & doesnt take much exra work.

Heres the how to I used for dropping the subframe. Then I used the tutorial on evomoto.com for the actuall clutch install.

all you need is a blow torch or plasma cutter.

download you a evo service manual and it will tell you everything.

Using a lift, but the subframe might drop anyway.
