When I first get in the Evo in the morning, the gas pedal sort of sticks before I can push it smoothly. If I push too firmly, the car engages harshly. Is there a way to fix this?

actually it's likely your TB is sticking and not opening properly. I have had this problem in the past, changed out the TB and problem never came back. I'm not saying you have to replace your TB but it is likely that could be part of the problem if it can't be fixed by lubing up the pedal joint.

Lol, Jon! I need to break out the astroglide!

I'm thinking of lubing up the pedal joint first. If that doesn't solve it, I will move on to the TB. I think it's the pedal though.

clean the throttle cable and the gunk in your TB?

The Evolution 8's are notorious for this as well as RPM's shooting up between shifts while WOT. Your Throttle body may be acquiring sludge or debris, this can be fixed by taken off and clean out and lube up. While removing the throttle body you might as well replace your Seals with new Works seals. This may fix it, if not there are a couple other culprits.

I'd say it's the TB or cable too. Cable gunk should be on the exposed cable near the TB. The TB itself is obvious. Also check the spring/shaft assembly for any gunk.

And, F&C, I think it is the IX that has the "throttle hang" issue on shifts. It's related to the IAC settings.
