Anyone have any experience with stock frame turbular manifolds? I am just bouncing around ideas on a Christmas present for myself. I was looking at Shearer fabs tubular manifold in particular. It stats that it fits OEM turbo applications, so does that mean any stock frame varient as well? BBK, FP green and red, etc.. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I am planning on upgrading the turbo to a modified stock frame, but that will be later on down road. I think that's it, I might have more questions later, LOL.
Thanks Craig B

I wish I could help, but I haven't had much time to do research while I'm in school. I used to read up on all the latest products...

Q at EPM can make it for you...
he got his shop open and running again.

I hear good things about shearer.
Before EPM went down, they were working on a nasty stock frame turbo manifold.
and yes, it will work for the bbk, red, green, black, etc.

How can I get in touch with EPM?
Any other ones I should consider?
Thanks Craig

Shearer, JMFab and .....dammit I forgot the 3rd one...Is it inline 4. Its grossly over priced. JMFab is the cheapest choice but the Shearer had the best performance increase when a vendor (might've been Buschur) tested it on a stock turbo...no changes and it gained about 21+HP alone.
I plan on buying one next year the same time I upgrade the turbo (FPGreen, BBK Full or whatever CBRD is working on next).
If you aren't going go GT35R or some sort of big turbo then I would say its worth. The fact it looks bad ass alos doesn't hurt.

Cool. I would love to get a big turbo setup, but I just cannot afford it, plus the Evo is my daily. I would not have to upgrade my clutch with just a manifold, but I would if I went with a BBK, so I think I am going with a manifold. Thanks for the info.

Shearer is the way to go on these. The others are nice as well, but from my experience the Shearer is the best performing stock frame mani.

I agree with Ryan, Shearer is the way to go for tubular set.
I believe it was BR that tested them. but i dont think it was 21hp increase. it was more like 14. It all depends on what you want.
they look dope for sure, and they make more power than ported. but at double or triple the price. For me it wasnt worth the extra, plus i wanted the stock look(besides my coating). BR, and MAP do great porting FYI. I think Andy went with a MAP. I of course have BR!

Thanks Ryan. I am really leaning towards the Shearer. Oh, also how is the new additions at Forged working out?

Full Race is the other one I was thinking about....and its stupid expensive comapred to other choices. Shearer I believe is the second most expensive but has proven results.....and is a work of art. Def. on my list of purchases for next year.

If you're still interested, you can contact Q @ EPM at 205-834-1901. There will be a turnaround time for it as he's a one-man shop now.

Anyone have any idea's theories as to why a forward facing and/or VBand style exhaust manifold for stock frame turbos hasn't been made. I suppose its not worth the money.....with some stock frame turbo's putting out GT35R numbers wouldn't it benefit? I emailed Ron @ Shearer to ask if he's ever tried it but I figured I'd put it to the community here.

What are you trying to achieve by having a forward facing setup?

I always assumed one of the advantages to that setup was air flow so I just simply assumed better air flow would be beneficial to smaller turbo's as well.

We've seen a forward facing turbo kit here on a Evo IX. I'll tell you right now it's not worth it by a long shot. Space is an issue and it is WAY too much trouble. We saw no added benefit.

Cool. Just curious.

I have always saw forward facing on drag setups. they would be a major pita on a DD, ingesting birds, bugs. I'm inclined to agree, more trouble than they are worth.

I'd be afraid to suck up something like a small child and destroy the turbo.

Kuruma here is a thread from EVOM talking about this verything. It turns into a flame war it seam (I haven't gotten through it all yet) but its a pretty recent conversation directly related to your original question: http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-engine-turbo-drivetrain/460588-best-tubular-manifold-5.html

Forward facing isn't for a street car, and that's what the majority of Evos are. Plus, you have to convert to speed density to run that way, which is more money/work/time that people don't have. Without a market, there is no use to mass produce. I'm sure there are custom forward facing manis for stock frame turbos out there.

I'd have to say it'd be pretty fun to hear about someone screwing up their turbo cause they sucked up a bird while doing 130 down the highway! lol
