Is this a fairly common with evo's for a the shifter cables to disconnect from the trans shifter lever while shifting? Particularly the 10's? I had my 5th gear cable disconnect while shifting from 1st to 2nd yesterday. I've read a few cases of it happening, but I'm curios if anyone else had this happen while driving.

It's not that big of a deal... just pull over and reconnect it. But the fact that it can happen so easily is a bit annoying. And it totally screw up shifting til you can get it pulled over since you cant tell where any of the remaining gears are.

I had the a clutch installed by the dealer a month or so ago. I can see that the clip was still on even after the cable bushing popped off. I assume the clip isn't sufficient to hold the bushing in place? Anything they could have done wrong to cause this? Seems kind of odd.

That's definitely not normal. It sounds like the clip is messed up somehow.

I suspect maybe the dealership screwed something up when finishing up the clutch job. Not pointing fingers or anything, but a few other cases I've read about where this happened were also less than a month after a dealer did some clutch work. Weird part is that the clip was still on AFTER the cable disconnected

I have an Evo8 and the rubber bushing popped off recently because it was rather oily. Replaced it with a hard aluminum bushing which should do the trick.

I know that the VIIIs and the IXs have diffferent clips that hold the shifter cables on. The IXs have like a c-clip while the VIIIs have a clip that goes through a hole, which I think is more secure. I had the hardest time keeping the clips on my buddy's IX when we were switching out his shifter bushings.

It sounds like the clip was not replaced when the clutch was done. Should be an easy fix ... just a small cotter pin or something will work.

yea, thats the weird part. The clip was still on after the bushing popped off! I dunno how that happened. But putting some safety wire on to tighten it up made the shifts MUCH smoother :) No more getting locked out of 2nd and no more notchy feel.
