What does everybody think about the G37? I'm thinking about trading the Evo in for it. I'm not sure if I would get the coupe or the sedan. I would like to get the coupe but I'm not sure how the wife would react to a two-door car. I say screw it and the kids can just squeeze into the back. :D Would you get the base model, Journey, Sport MT or the xCoupe AWD?

Don't trade your Evo, the dealer will only robbed you. They will value your Evo way too low on the price you want.

Well are you getting out of the car modifying habit completely....aka this car will remain stock. If so the G37 is a good choice, but....if you plan to tinker then you need to go with the X....it looks and acts grown up but still has a decent level of modibility (not a word I know but sounded good to me).

It's easy to say that a person is getting out of the modding the car game but we all know how long that last. I've been doing a lot of reading on EvoM about the modding capability for the X's so I'm aware of their potential.

Yeah it will keep the modding bug away. After some nice wheels and some minor bolt on's....unless you want to try and boost it that'll be it. It was kinda underwhelming for my buddy.
They did do a good job updating it. It looks nice.

yeah i'd do the awd as well its a nice car man go for it! when do you actually use all the power of a evo.. on ramps and down ramps..? i rather be in a fast but luxury car... just me tho :-D and at times you can still take the g up the mountains etc and have fun but not go over board :) but i doubt you could autox it :-P and have as much fun as in a evo :) and you what drive 200 miles one way frequently ? i rather be comfortable.. then be worried about getting speeding tickets in a evo or people trying to race you all the way down there :-P

I took a G37 home for the weekend last weekend actually. it's nothing really special, but i prefer it over the 370z. it's really luxurious compared to the Evo, but doesn't deliver the performance that I'm so use to with the Evo. I guess if you have to grow up, the g37 would be a descent car to get, cause it's still fast, and it's comfortable.

I would prefer a G37 sedan than the coupe if you are getting it. I don't really like the new look of G37 coupe, and for family use, a sedan is more practical and not really much slower. We have a 05 G35 sedan, and it's actually does it job very well, to get from point a to point b with modest horsepower and comfort. My brother (Manchi) took it to Road Atlanta once for track event, and it actually hold up pretty well. The AWD model adds about 300 more weight and more expensive as well. Unless you absolutely needs AWD, RWD will be sufficient enough and more fun :p

Are you going to part anything off your Evo?
If I do trade in the Evo I will definitely take off a lot of the aftermarket parts. I still have a vast majority of the OEM parts so going back to some what stock is not a big deal.
As of right now though I plan on fixing some of the things wrong with my car to see if I can fall back in love with the old girl. :D While I was at Rick Case this morning I was sitting in the Genesis Coupes and was impressed with them. I could definitely get a good deal for one of them in Tennessee as well since we don't pay sales tax there.

With the Genesis, i would get the 3.6 liter if keeping some what stock. It has around 50 hp more stock for stock. The AM seem to be embracing the turbo 4 more.
Chemwarrior

I would most likely get the 3.6 but the 2.0 turbo, 4B11, also has its appeal.

per Dsport " new cars" issue. the v6 is 3.8l and has 96 additional hp. They call the Hyundai motor on the 4cyl the theta engine.
In the july issue of super street. it states. "that although the 4b11 and theta engines are similiarm they are quite different" it then states "but that's not to say the theta engine won't have the same aftermarket support that the 4b11 is getting."
So it seems, if these mags are correct, it doesnt have the 4B11, but a very similiar designed engine. BR has one, and AWD just got one. I am sure that others will be working with it.
its funny, i read all this ish about cars, and it gets triggered when someone says something.(I ran into the bathroom to find the above)lol

When I took my Evo X for recall service at Rick Case @ Roswell, the general manager came to waiting area and asked me if I drove the Evo X. He then said he needs someone with sports car minded, and asked me to test drive the Genesis coupes and let him know what I think. I drove both auto and 6speed of V6 model with track packages, and I was very impressed with the build quality and feel of the car. He even openly said that he knew a lot of buyers of the 4 cylinder turbo models will mods the car, and even showed me the video of Millen's drift car modifications. If you are looking for a budget coupe, then the Genesis coupe are hard to beat.

^ I am so impressed that they wanted an Evo owner's input. When I was looking to buy, Rick Case was the only dealer that I went to that would let me test drive an Evo. I do like the look of the Genesis as well as the G37. I think I would get a BMW 335 if I were looking to upgrade to a luxury car.

Dan, you know our background in the Nissan/Infinity industry. I can tell you firsthand that if you are seriously considering a G37 and DO plan to mod the car, then you need to stay away from the sedan and especially away from the X (awd) models. First off it is not a true AWD system like the Evo, it is more of an active steering upgrade. Both the sedans and awd models have next to no mod potential. My recommendation would be to go with the Sport (6MT) model.
If considering all cars in a reasonable price range I would say go with the Evo X for the reasons everyone else has already posted in this thread. I would be more than happy to give you any more info you need.

I'll be honest guys, I would probably choose the Genesis Coupe over the G37. They are really comparable cars but the Genesis is ~$12000 less. That's a shitload less. I can get a fully loadable track edition Genesis Coupe V6 for around ~$30k and that same G37 would cost ~$42k. Now if I wanted to get the 2.0T then that would cost ~$23k. I'm still going to see if this replacement axle fixes my issues and if it does then I'll more likely than not keep the Evo.

IMO G37 is the strongest competitor coming out of Japan. The (Bavarian)benchmark, now offers a more refined diesel then previous generations, luxurious interior like always and anyone whose driven a bimmer knows of their “to die for steering”. I had privilege in driving a 335 for 2 months last year, for a family friend who traveled overseas. As a DD, steering feel is as close as perfect as can be. But after a drive with a classmate’s G37S with nav. (basically the sport model). I would rather have:
1st Evo(VIII-X) / 2nd G37 /followed 2007 335i minus the idrive.
Don’t take my word for it, you’re getting advice from a guy whose driven each vehicle less than 6 months, Hell!...one for only 1 day. However, there is a strong Nissan/Infiniti enthusiast community that is known to frequent Forged Perfomance. I would start there.

While the initial posting of this thread was about the G37 I have more or less scratched that vehicle and now I am considering the Genesis Coupe. After much reading and research the Genesis Coupe is a somewhat comparable vehicle to the G37 but a much better bargain. The hard part is deciding between the 2.0T Track or the 3.8 V6 Track. While the V6 offers more power fresh off the showroom floor the 2.0T as of right now offers more aftermarket support, which can equal and then surpass the whp of the V6. The big question I have to ask myself is how far into modding do I want to go? I'm thinking though that I probably don't want to tinker too much with the engine. Sure a nice aftermarket exhaust and intake will be fine but that's probably the extent I want to go. Do you realize the Track edition offers better Brembos than our VIII/IXs do?

Personally, I think Nissan has fallen on it's face in terms of styling. I find both the 370Z/G37 to be uglier then the prior models. The G37 is nice (luxury wise), but way over priced for what you get.
The gf and I have looked at both the sedan and coupe versions of the Genesis and I have to admit, that to me, is a better bang for the bunk and you can't beat Hyundai's warranty if anything were to go fail. Hyundai has really stepped up it's game within the past couple years in regards to quality.
Ryan - Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the G35 sedan quicker then the coupe? I wanna say that the sedan was actually lighter....

Nope its the 3.6R, 256hp with paddle shifters. It feels really solid, especially comapred to the G6 i have had for the last 5 months. You can tell its AWD, but it is a regualr awd. not really like the Evo(sports oriented) I put it around a turn, it was very flat, probaly thanks to the awd, but i felt something i havent felt in the Evo. it felt like slight wheelspin for a split second while still moving forward. The inside is really spacious, seats comfortable. The gauges are nifty looking. i haven't had my wife in it, but i know her she will love it. We are looking at purchasing her a vehicle here pretty soon. Her and I both like Subarus when it comes to "family" cars. (legacies, outbacks, foresters)

Hyundai delivers racer-friendly Genesis Coupe R-Spec
Hyundai is doing some big things. THe price of this car and the spec is simply incredible.
Back when Hyundai launched its Genesis Coupe last spring, the Korean maker announced that it would be adding another variant targeted specifically at the tuner crowd. As this is being written, the 2.0T R-Spec is being shipped to dealers and will have its official coming out next week in Las Vegas at the SEMA show.
The R-Spec cuts what is billed as "non-essential" convenience bits like cruise control, Bluetooth, the trip computer and steering wheel audio controls to cut both weight and cost. Since the R-Spec is targeted at customers that are likely to add some sort of body kit anyway, no rear wing is installed, either.
On the other hand, it includes all of the good bits from the track pack like the 19pinch wheels, Brembo brakes and Torsen limited slip differential. R-Spec models are available only in white, red and black with the 2.0-liter 210 turbo four banger. It goes out the door at a relatively modest $23,750, leaving both racers and Hot Import Nights guys and gals with a bit of cash to spend on the inevitable upgrades. Check out the official press release after the jump for further details.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CALIF., OCT. 27, 2009 – The Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec, the perfect blank canvas for tuners, priced at $23,750 is beginning to arrive at dealerships across the country. R-Spec takes the core performance equipment from the 2.0T Track model and eliminates non-essential convenience equipment to reduce both cost and weight. The Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec – the first production R-Spec model to arrive in the U.S. – will make its world debut at the Hyundai booth at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in the Las Vegas Convention Center from November 3 – 6 (Booth # 24387).
The R-Spec allows enthusiasts to tune their own car to their desired specifications. R-Spec provides genuine track-readiness and powertrain scalability in an affordable model. R-Spec comes with manual transmission only.
R-Spec equipment includes:

Make sure you drive a 2.0 and a v6 back to back, ignore the power and focus on the handling. I was actually able to feel the difference between the 2 in the curves between since the v6 is a little bit heavier. I was orignally thinking the same thing, get the v6 but ended up in the 2.0. You guys are crazy and you only wish you could get rid of me that easily. Murdered out is in the plans for the car. That's one of the reasons why I chose black. They had a red one there with nav but I wanted a different color this time. I would have preferred a gray one but they offered me $300 over invoice for this one so I couldn't pass it up. I didn't get as much for my trade in as I wanted but they offered me more than my payoff so it was all profit. Not to mention I'm getting the difference from my part out. BTW my black one doesn't have the navigation but that wasn't a deal breaker.

I need to tell a little about the car because it is so cool. First it has the Homelink system so I can open my garage door from my rearview mirror. It also has a bluetooth connection so I can now talk on the phone without having a phone or bluetooth ear bud on. I've already talked with my family on it and they said it was very clear. Yes I was sitting in my garage talking to my wife. :D It also comes with monoblock Brembos that are actually bigger and better than the Evos. Since I got the Track version it comes with upgraded front and rear swaybars, 19" rims with staggered front (225) and rear (245) tires. The sales manager at Rick Case was really cool. Apparently he used to work with AMS back in the day. He used to have a 600awhp Evo and currently has a fully built Eclipse. I was talking with this guy and he really knew his stuff. I asked him about aftermarket mods and warranty for the Genesis Coupe and he told me it wouldn't be a problem as long as I'm not opening the engine block. Since I'm only planning on upgraded exhaust and intake it shouldn't be a problem.
I really am excited about this car.

No homo to ryano, you better lump Joey into too :p

Congrats Dan on the new car! I sure hate seeing the Evo go though. You'll have to post up some pics when the weather permits.

Thanks Brett. I'll see about taking some crappy pictures with my cell phone this weekend. Maybe Ryan can take some pictures on Saturday when I stop by Forged at 10am. I also had a lot of misgivings about seeing the Evo go but this car is just so comfortable and has all the bells and whistles.

I know the brakes are great but, does it handle well? I'm so used to the tight steering and feel of mine, that when I drive my wife's Mazda 6, it just feels so sloppy.

Of course it's not going to be as tight as the Evo. I don't think there are many cars out there that have an almost telepathic steering output like the Evo. With that being said, the Genesis Coupe is still outstanding. The handling over city roads is muted and comfortable and on highways is just as comfortable. I actually like that it's not as twitchy as the Evo.

Man it's nice out today! where are the pics?! =D
Congrats on the car. I went to the evo from a Tiburon (not at all the same car as a genesis, but all tib owners worship the genesis!) So, i am jealous =)
Now get ready to get made fun of by the masses... You dont know how many times you'll hear "but it's still a hyundai" :\

I'm not really concerned about what people say about the car because they always change their mind once they see it. :D BTW Hyundais have come a long way since their initial import to the US. Just look at their awards now.

my very first car was a Hyundai. I was a senior in highschool, on Osan AFB in Korea. it was a Hyundai Excel hatch. 1989 i think. I loved that car. plus I was the only kid with my OWN car. Cost 500$ , ran like a champ

Congrats Dan! did you get the auto or manual model? Like I said earlier, I really like the car especially for the price. Transmission is supposed to be strong as well as it was made by ZF. While I was there, the general manager also mentioned there is a supercharger that can work with the V6 model.

Thanks and I also heard the same thing from the sales manager at Rick Case. I also read somewhere that it's supposed to cost ~$20k to have it and all the internal strengthening installed. I think that's a tad too much.

I'll get some pictures up today even if I have to take them with my cell phone.

I just got a phone call from a person that bought my Evo. He was asking me what all is done to it. I thought that was kind of weird though. I would have wanted to know all these answers before I bought the car. I'm sure he'll enjoy it though. Apparently he is coming from the Subie world and is a member on WRXatlanta. I thought I would share that.

How did he get your #?

He got it from a Firestone receipt I left in the car. He seems really excited about it.

I thought the same thing at first but I asked him where he got it from. I was about to raise some serious hell if the dealership had given it to him.

I did tell him I was on this site so hopefully he'll join as well. It would feel kind of weird though coming to a meet and seeing someone else driving my car.

That would be strange but cool. At least you can keep track of its progress. I often wonder where my old car ended up. It's probably a riced out pos by now.

Other than the MINI every car I ever sold was to a friend so I always still saw them until those people got rid of them. Selling cars to friends isn't a good idea by the way. You always sell it to em cheap & you still have to work on it. :/ Atleast thats the way it always worked for me.

That sounds like a lose/lose situation. It makes a lot of sense.
