View Full Version : CBRD Sponsored Time Attack Car is done!

Well, it's pretty much done. I have had a very interesting weekend. I left Wednesday night to head up to Ivey Tune to pick up the car from Sean after the tune. We had an unfortunate mishap which ended in a blown turbo. (not Ivey's fault at all.) We picked it up Thursday night and brought it back to CBRD for some final prep work. We had our hands full on Friday working on the car all day to try and get it ready for the Redline Time Attack at Englishtown, NJ. We had 6 of us working on the car all day long and managed to get everything put together.

Unfortunately it rained almost all day on Saturday, so I only got on the track for about 10 minutes the entire day. It cleared up on Sunday and we were able to shakedown the car. We had our hands full with problems to troubleshoot the entire day. Fortunately we were able to get a new turbo on the car on Friday before we left, however the o2 bolts were backing out of the hotside of the turbo. We also dealt with the Sparktech CDI going out, a coolant leak, tire rub, a major 3rd gear transmission problem and a few other issues. The car is wicked fast and I was still able to pull together a few respectable lap times even with our ongoing issues. We were able to resolve most of the problems by the final test run.

I want to thank all of my sponsors as this would not be possible without them. The trackside support from my guys and CBRD was amazing.

Anyways, I'm sure some of you are eager to see the pictures, so here they are. I will post up more pictures and a few video's later. Enjoy ;)

Thanks. Ya, I am actually not into kits either, but it is necessary for this setup. I am running 18x10.5 +18s with 285/30/18s on all 4 corners. It's impossible to fit those sizes under the factory fenders and even with 285s I have to be careful not to spin the tires too hard. The downforce advantages of this kit are also well worth it.

It's registered, but I would say it's far from street legal. I won't be registering the car next year. I do need you to get pictures of it at some time ;)

Man that looks good Ryan! BTW what did you do with the AME wheels?

I still have the AME's as my practice wheels. The car didn't see enough track time this weekend to make use of more than 1 set of wheels.

Nope, OEM glass is required by Redline rules to stay in Modified class.

Mike,

You make it seem as if the valves just now were messed up and were not before or that we are lying to you. You do realize how cheap valves are right? Stop trying to twist things around to make it sound like we are trying to pull more money out of you. If money is such a big issue at the moment just replace the valves with stock ones instead of upgrading. Nobody is forcing you to upgrade your motor further, only 3 of the valves are damaged.

Ryan,
I am not twisting anything or saying anyone is lying. The guy asked if i was redoing anything...Unfortunatly, I have to.
No one at the shop mentioned anything about valves until today. it was a total suprise to me due to when you guys took it apart, everyone said nothing but the pistons were messed up and some of the wall or whatever had to be cleaned up..i know the stock valves are cheap, it's the machining that will be killing me! You said earlier in a email when i asked should i upgrade/replace the valves (before i knew they were bad) something like "that's when it starts getting expensive".. I don't really want to get into anything on here, just realize i haven't been able to drive my care like 2 months in the last year through no fault of my own...!
Let me state that sharrif at forged is deffinatly helping out in this engine problem and is probably doing more than most shops would. it just has seemed like one thing after another with this build. I baby the freakin car. it just sux that i can't ever drive it! :o)

all 4 pistons messed up and now some of the valves are messed up.

based on your emphasis on the "now" it leads me to believe you do not think they were damaged before. When dealing with damaged motors it's not always obvious which parts need to be replaced. Would you prefer we ignored it and left it alone? Building the entire head does get expensive, but seeing how you are already doing the cams, valve springs, etc. which do not have to be replaced, I don't see why it is a problem to ask if you want to upgrade. If you were ever planning to do it, now would be a good time.

You say you don't want to get into it yet every time you post in one of my thread you bring up something about the work on your car whether it be asking me questions about your car or asking me to give you a call. I don't mind answering questions or giving you a call, but it may be better sent through PM instead of on the open forum. If you post it on here I assume you do in fact want to get into it on here. I have no problem with this and we have nothing to hide.

I understand your car has been down a lot over the last year, and I am sorry for that. However, you are the one who needs to realize that I of all people know what your situation is like. My car has been down for the last 2 years all except for 3 weeks. I have had to shell out far more than you have out of pocket for issues/mistakes that were no fault of my own. I have had to wait far longer for things much less important and my car has gotten pushed to the back and not been worked on for countless months. I DO realize what your situation is like. It sucks and is definitely no fun, but it's not close to as bad as you make it out to be.

Feel free to call me directly if you want to discuss this further. This has already managed to throw this thread way off topic...

What did you think of their shop? Isn't it insane? Their attention to detail is second to none. It's been a pleasure working with all of them.

Dude, shop was sick! Waiting room, work bay, bathrooms, dyno, immaculate! They are slipping on their detail though, I bought a large t shirt and it is too small...they need more accurate sizing :p I did hold a bag with 2 sets of titanium lugs and it was lighter than 1 set of my lugs! Those things are rediculous. Def not for a street car though

It sounds even better outside the car. Just curious why you plan on it staying there most of the time. If I spent that kind of money on my Evo, I'd wanna see and drive it whenever I wanted. Altough, I'm sure CBRD has a lot invested in the car laborwise and want to use it as a sales tool to attract potential customers that are Evo owners.

For the time being we still have some changes to make on the car. Until it is 100% finished it will be up there.

CBRD has not requested that the car stay up there, but more offered it a spot whenever I want. As of now I have 1 garage down here to house 2 Evo's and a Skyline. Would you leave the R34 or the Track Evo outside? ;)
