Methanol - Where to buy locally

Anyone know where to buy the stuff in at least a 50/50 mix or above?

I'm sure any performance shop near you will have it. If not there check online and there should be a VP dealer near you. I'm not sure where you live, so I can't say for sure.

So I go to walmart to check out their washer fluid selections and of course, I find nothing useful. I get back home and do some searching and find that Summit sells the stuff I need......at just over $8 a gallon http://forums.maxima.org/images/smilies/gay.gif

So I'm like, there has to be something to this washer fluid thing. So after more searching, I find this on NASIOC:

OK, so I'm new to this. I've been reading a bit, and doing my own research on the meth content of the locally available washer fluids and such.

I see that people like WalMart washer fluid with a couple yellow bottles of HEET added in.

But I see various statements as to how much meth that is, and ways of calculating it.


OK, so I look up some Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) today on various blue -20F windshield washer fluids,...Safety-Kleen, Apex, Supertech, Valuecraft, etc.

Valuecraft states that it is 32% Methanol (by volume?)
-20F Super Tech (by Fox Packaging Co., sold at WalMart) states that it is 30% BY WEIGHT.

OK so I figure Methanol is 6.63 lbs per gallon and water is 8.33,....but then what? Does that mean that the Super Tech is 33.8% methanol by volume?

Is that what we're shooting for,...50-70% meth by volume,....or 50-70% meth by weight?

If the 33.8% estimate above is right,....then adding a bottle of HEET (12 oz) would make the mix 140 fluid oz (128 + 12), with 55.3 oz of it Meth, or 39.5%

2 bottles of HEET = 44.3%

3 bottles of HEET = 48.35%

4 bottles of heet = 51.875 % meth. (now the bottle is 176 oz, or 1.375 gallons).

If it is,..and the washer fluid is $1.99 a gallon, and HEET is $1.16 a bottle,..that means that 3 bottles of HEET and the gallon together (to make 48.4% meth) costs $5.47 for 164 oz, (1.28 gallons), or $4.26 a gallon.

With 4 bottles of HEET (to make 51.9% meth) and the gallon together cost $6.63 for 1.375 gallons, or $4.82 a gallon.

So now its back to Walmart to test this theory out. I've only got a gallon of the Snow Perf. Boost Juice left and I'll be damned to spend $8 a gallon on more....or is it a case of i'm damned if I do and i'm damned if i dont http://forums.maxima.org/images/smilies/scratchhead.gif Guess we'll see.

I run the boost juice that summit sells. I bought all of Ryan's left overs for a great deal (thanks Ryan). But I am lery of running a homemade mix of washer fluid, because doesn't washer fluid have cleaning agents and detergents?
