We've pulled all of the interior out of the Mazda and the entire floor pan is covered in the black sound deadening tar stuff. I thought it would be gooey like undercoating, but it seems hard as a rock!
So, who knows the best way to get it out? And, is it worth it?
I've been told to use dry ice to freeze it and then chip it out.
As far as weight, I've heard that Miata has 25lb of the stuff just in the trunk alone! We've got at least 5x that amount in the MX-6 ... but Sean isn't super keen on the time it will take to remove.
Thoughts?

Dry Ice!!!
Buy it in little pellets, spread across and it will literally start breaking itself. It should come up in nice sheets. At that point all you have to deal with is the glue that is below it that held it to the metal. That stuff is a total pita to get up. The sound deadening itself should be fairly easy.
It takes quite some time to get it all up, but it's worth it if you are trying to get every ounce of weight off of the car. I pulled around 40 pounds of it + glue out of my track Evo.

Any tips on the glue? Will an aerosol adhesive remover help? Is it oil based? Just good ole fashioned elbow grease?

purple power... engine degrease that s what i used in mine :) and tons of elbow grease .. and dry ice for that other stuff works as well :) for the glue i had one of those dremel tools... to help kinda like a light sander...
