View Full Version : Bought a car that was apart and fuel pump won't get power

So I bought car that was apart (In the process of being put back together) and had the transmission and transfer case sent to shep which took a long time. Anyways everything is back but the guy that is putting it back together can't get power to the fuel pump. he thought it was an easy fix but its kicking his ass.

A friend of his was supposed to help him with troubleshooting it but he's not answering his phone now.

Is there anyone that can lend a hand to help me troubleshoot this if I decide to just have the car towed to my house. We made a deal for a running car but I'm just frustrated this has taken so long and there is no eta in sight. I have a friend that knows his way around EVO's (He's owned one for a while) but the more hands the better.

it took a month for shep to send the drivetrain back (after it took 2 weeks to be sent out) and now I've waited over a week to get the car running.....am I just being impatient?

i know a month seems like a long time.... i had an rsx down for 3 months and i hated that. i know what you are feeling. but, andy, on the other hand is having a time with his rebuild, so he might be the one to shed some light. he has shown remarkable patience with everything that has gone wrong for him. (everything that could go wrong, has gone wrong for him, it seems)

Its actually been 2 months. I paid for the car and ordered stuff in April. Drivetrain didn't get back until last week wednesday. Over a week and half later and fuel pump getting power appears to be the only issue. The sellers friend may come through and show up today but I'm trying to prepare to deal with this myself.

I'm at 3 months now & looking a 2 more weeks minimum. You just get to the point where you realize thing will get done when they get done. You can try to rush it or stick to a deadling, but it does'nt seen to change the outcome. Just be patient & do it right.

If this was waiting on the drivetrain still I can understand but I'm waiting for someone else I to come and troubleshoot a problem. Its not like dude is trying to figure it out and needs time....Nothing is being done at the moment and the one guy that needs to look at it is non-responsive....I have absolutely no clue when this will get done. If he was looking at it it would be one thing but nothing is being done and no one is looking at it......Pretty much since Friday.....I guess I'm just super frustrated....esp since I didn't know this was going to be as big an issue as its becoming.

07-05-2009, 02:20 PM
That's a little diffrent. In that case I would make the call based on wether or not you think you will be able to get the issue taken care of correctly on your own. I hate electrical issues so I'd most likely let the other guy deal with it. Sux he's not making it a priority for ya.

07-05-2009, 02:23 PM
Its not the seller....he's been good about everything. Its been a priority for him. I feel kinda bad since he's baring the brunt of my frustration. Its the guy he's waiting on that seems to not really care....why should he....its not his car....probably not being paid for it either.....so he's not motivated in the slightest.

Its a crap shoot. Im not sure if I'll be able to resolve it myself or with the help of others but at least Id have my car and I'd know its being actively worked on with the help of knowledgeable friends or a stranger that out of the kindness of his heart helped out :P

Well I'd give it a day or two & if there is no progress I'd grab it & see what you can do. I'd guess that someone who knows automotive electrical at all could figure it out fairly easlily. It's probrobly not an Evo specific issue.

07-05-2009, 02:33 PM
If you search evom it def. doesn't seem like its a common issue. Originally seller thought it was fuel computer that somehow screwed the ECU up but he tried a different one and still has the same issue. He feels fairly confident its not the fuel pump or the crank angle position sensor. He's been trying to get it resolved since Tuesday of last week. Been waiting on this guy to fix the issue since Wednesday. I'm waiting to see how today plays out. I know that I'm getting more aggravated as the days go by....not like I feel like it will be in any better hands if I take it but like I said at least I know that it will be a priority for me.

simple fix... to test it you get 2 battery wires thats long enough to reach to the tank.

then connect each wires to each end of the battery ready to power something.

then open the cap and make sure the gas is above 3/4 of the tank. insert the positive end first and then insert the ground wire coming from battery ... then let them touch inside the tank.

oh you mush make sure to have life/health/car insurance prior to doing this.

LOL. I feel like blowing this bitch up. Well it looks like the person the seller was waiting on is basically saying that he's on his own. Looks like I'm towing my car 60 miles home to try and figure it out on my own and hope nothing else is wrong with the car.

This fucking sucks

Cherokee (I live in Lawrenceville). I've been reading it seems like it may be the crank angle sensor but he had this problem with a previous motor in the car so the chances of it being the same problem on 2 different motors are highly unlikely..which means its an electrical issue (and I suck at chasing electrical issues on cars). Hopefully someone here can lend a hand or a friend can help me figure htis out.

Much as I'm loathe to is there any shops someone can recommend that won't rip me off and bend me over just in case I can't figure it out. I've already spent a crap load of money for a rolling paperweight

I'm in Lawrenceville. Gainesville is just above me. THats not terrible. I was planning on taking the day off and getting to drive my car....now it looks like I'll be spending the day arranging tow and calling shops in the vicinity to help me with this (if I think I can't find the problem).

Thanks for the suggestion, he'll be on the top of my list to contact. Thanks.

i dont know who is the tech at zen but i do know forged will take your car as the payment for fixing it...

when you have problems take it to some local mechanics... not your tuner shops.

Well I contacted the seller or at least attempted to find out if I can just go get the car tomorrow early in the morning so I dont have to waste anymore time on it sitting doing nothing. No response....hopefully I can get my hands on the car tomorrow in the day instead of the evening.

i know this is probably i dumb reminder, but dont forget to tell them you need a flatbed, since you are AWD. sure you know that, but when i had my wreck, the tow guy put the truck on the flat bed, and i was thinking he was having another come get me... i asked him and he said nope, i'm dragging yours... i laughed and said the hell you are. he had to drop the truck and pull my car up and drag the truck. alot of tow truck operators dont realize when you call them up they will need to bring out a flatbed... anyway, probably wasting your time with something you had already planned on...;)

Ok so I got more info on the issue. Apparently a 1000hp AMS fuel system was attempted to be installed and ever since then it (fuel pump) stopped working. The AMS system is supposed to tap the think white wire that runs from the ECU to the fuel directly.

I'll be calling a Autronix and a few shops and running this by them.

Well I finally towed the car 60 miles home (flatbed). I spoke with the seller some more about the issue. Found out fuel relay hasn't been replaced yet. I'm going to try and find one used (any givers...I'm taking lol). Other wise I'll go to mitsubishi and buy one. Taking it off the car tonight and walking with it to work.

God I hope its something simple like a relay.

You and I both...I posted in IA, evom and here looking for a relay....the dealer is going to take a few weeks before they get in so if I can find one locally then bonus. I also posted in the WTB forum as well. Hit up all the part outs on evom....patiently waiting for a response...I'd like to repalce this asap. I even walked with the relay to work. LOL.
