So I'm heading to TTP on Monday to get this tune thing done and I'm both excited and nervous about raising my power level to 500 on the stock block.

Based on what I've read, there's been guys going as high as 600+ on the stock block with no problems to date click ----> 500WHP Stock Block Club (http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-engine-turbo-drivetrain/212769-500whp-stock-block-club.html)

This raised my confidence level quite a bit.....till I ran across this thread on EvoM
click----->Holy-Engine (http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-engine-turbo-drivetrain/404115-holy-engine.html)

Now I'm thinking...maybe I should tune for 400, upgrade the rods and bolts then retune for 500. This way I'm playing it safe and instead of spending $5K on replacing and building another block, I'd be spending less than $1k and ensuring this one stays in one piece..................or I could just go for 450 and see what happens

Hard to say, but if you're gonna drive it hard or track it often I'd say it's a gamble on stock bottom end. Plenty of people do it, but some have come to regret it.

It is rough to say, but as long as its tuned right with no knock then you could be ok, but there are always variances that can pop up (bad tank of gas, overboost, etc.). So i'd be cautious and just tune for safety. You should be able to hit a good 450 w/o issues.

That's what I'm leaning towards. I was really looking forward to using the turbo to its full potential but I guess its better safe than sorry. http://forums.maxima.org/images/smilies/sadpace.gif

This is the result of not planning ahead!!

Well since your running meth you'll be able to get a good bit out of it, so don't be disappointed. I wouldn't be surprised if you get high 400's on a still safe tune.

always good to play it safe. unless you have the spare parts to fix it. thats why i stopped at 370. my stock tranny won't hold more than that. when i have a spare 6spd then turn it up and break the stock one:D

Just see what they reccomend, but I know TTP likes to put out high HP stock block cars ;)

Ive been told that TQ is more of a concern than HP. If I remember correctly 450wtq+ is when you should start being concerned. Maybe somone can chime in on that...

I would prolly have TTP tune me in the 450whp area. Then I would save up for the parts to turn up the boost/power.

I have also heard the 450tq quoted as the oh shit area.

My other concern being that I'm very close to 100k on the clock and quite a few of those miles have been on some sort of track.

I've been fortunate enough to have Millidgeville Mitsu honor my warranty on numerous track related issues but I fear that once I blow a hole in the block, its one they wont touch.

Sounds like 450/450 is a good compromise....stickin with it.

Well, I think it is good that your making your mind up now. like previously stated TTP like the high HP stock blocks. Be sure to report back after you have 500awhp and 450+ TQ :)

there are plenty of stock block evos that blow up with 350whp within a month and plenty of evos that last for years at 500whp. numbers dont mean jack shit.

look at what bushar has done with pump gas cars, normally those power levels are fuckin unheard of with 93 oct but it can be done cause of a kickass tune.

have a safe a/f, safe amount of knock and a good tune and dont worry about your numbers.

normally ttp turns up the boost and makes huge numbers(around 500) and then turns it down and tunes it for reliability and longevity

^ Thats what Dyno4mance did with my tune. It put down 368 with a couple counts of knock. They retuned it to 349 with no knock to be safe.

^ so in reality you are only at 350.

Yup, 349.5 to be exact. Actually right now I'm at 0.

Keep in mind that was with the stock turbo on a Dyno Dynamics. I was told that was the most they had seen froma stock turbo on that dyno. I wish I had gone back to Top Speed just to get dynoed so I could see the gain. I put down 357 on Top Speeds Dynojet before the cams & MAF-T Pro. There was a huge seat of the pants diffrence even though my dyno numbers went down.

i dont go by numbers... ita ll comes down to what all usable power you have.

anyone can make the car peak hp. dont mean its usable power.

shunderwunder

True, but seeing the numberz is nice too. Like I said I was on 2 diffrent dynos & would like to have known the actual diffrence in HP after the mods, but all that really matters is that it was alot more fun to drive afterwards.
