Okay so I'm on vacation and I was bored so I decided to do something with the car. I have been wanting a heat shield for the cam sensor for a while now but I really didn't feel like paying $35 for one.

So off to Lowe's and pulled out the dremel.

Pretty simple. I picked up some sheet metal from Lowes. 5"x5" is plenty for one. I think the small sheets were around 1' x 1'. I got lucky on finding some scrap they had there and sold it to me for $1.

Really the first step is to mock up a heat shield. I just used a sheet of paper and scissors.

Next I laid the template onto the sheet metal and traced with a Sharpie. I also made notes of where to bend the metal.

Next is cutting with the dremel. Don't forget your eye protection.

Next, grab a clamp and a steady surface and make your bends.

Next, grab a file and smooth the edges and corners a bit. Make sure to get rid of the burrs.

Lastly, drill a hole for mounting.

Here it is, unpainted. I originally planned on showing painted and unpainted but I don't have the paint I thought i had.

Not bad at all for $1 and 30 minutes.

Nice. I have the CF version. But kudos for DIY. Which manifold is that. looks nice. Would sheet metal work as a conductor, therefore heating the sensor instead?

it could. but i think this will be better than nothing to block direct heat from the manifold.

its thinner and lighter than the manifold's metal so i imagine it would dissipate heat quicker.

That's cool, I just thought about it being metal.
What manifold is that, i like it.

Can't beat that deal. I think aluminum or CF would be a little better, but the sheet metal should block quite a bit of heat as it is.

Cool, good stuff, just bought one of those sensors this week for $60. You could have saved me some money, geez.....

Very nice DIY! I am trying to do more stuff myself as well. It gives you a certain sense of satisfaction.
