Just browsing Evom & ran across this.
http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-dyno-tuning-results/427963-new-fp-hta-green-517awhp-491ftlbs-e85.html
I've been on the fence with whether to get the CBRD BBK or the FP red to go with my 2.3 build when the time comes. I will get 2 maps for the car. 1 for 93 octane & one for E85. Since there aren't many of E85 stations arround I'll most likely run 93 on a regular basis. That being said I had all but sold myself on the BBK cause the Red doesn't seem to be so special on pump gas. However the Red has been proven to make lots of power & the 2.3 should spool it nicely anyway. Now I run across this HTA Green with the 80mm anti surge compressor housing. I'll say that the Red is out for sure & I'm already swaying twards this over the BBK now. I hope there will be alot more results before I make my final decision/purchase but it's looking good already.

Decisions, decisions. I need to do some more research on the latest turbo kits. Wish I could help ya.

shunder i read about that a couple of days ago... says it doesnt have the flutter as the smaller diameter has/had.... and alot of the original owners seem to be upgrading to that one.... might be the way to go.... didnt read it all though... got lazy... his disease spreads fast...

Cool!
I'm also researching for the AMS turbo mannifold and turbo kit.

How much is it for the upgrade from a Green? I still have my stock VIII i can roll around on and a friend owes me a favor, so it will be installed for free :D

lol God Tripp... My mom calls me that...
Will do. I was thinking about switching to the BBK, but if this can be done for less than why not?

Damn, just when I think I have a stock framed turbo picked out, something new just pops up. Can't wait to see some comparisons with the BBK

What are the best numbers posted up on a BBK?

bbk.... i know your not going with the red.. which is a good thing... seen most of blow up recently but its not a big thing because fp is replacing all the ones that do blow up :) but heard nothing but good things about the bbk :)

^ I heard that too, but FP is releasing a new oil line that feeds from the oil filter housing to provide more oil pressure in an attempt to stop that problem from happening. Still not sure which way I'll go but my intake will work with that new 80mm housing which means either way wont be an issue.

With a 2.3 I'd consider the Red, but for a 2.0, I'd go BBK lite all the way. But, that's just the autocrosser in me talking.
The full BBK would be a great choice for a 2.3. It flows just enough to not drop off up top and will spool like crazy with that displacement. In my opinion, there is no other choice unless you are going full out drag car.

BBK full is what i was thinking originally for the same reasons you posted TB, but I'm thinking this may be a better all arround solution.

Your car is pretty much a daily right Andy? You don't go to too many track events and hardly drag it. If it were me I'd get the turbo that would make the most power and retain the stock spool. On the 2.3 that seems to be the hta green or red turbos.

BBK hands down. Yes, I am biased, but for good reason. The spool and power of the BBK in my opinion, is far superior to the FP Green, new model or not. For those of you who do not know I have run both an FP Green and a BBK so I think my comparison is fair.

It's not really a daily driver cause I have a work truck. It is driven at all other times that the truck is not needed. I do try to go to 1-2 track days a year & will take it to the strip once or twice too. Stock like spool on a Red with a 2.3 would be nice, but a BBK on a 2.3 would be even faster & could make one hell of a street monster.

THe BBK was my turbo of choice cause I didn't want the lag of the Red & the sub par performance on pump gas. However I do plan to run E85 as much as I can & I'm not convinced the BBK is the way to got there. Just seems that the HTA Green is kinda in the middle. Obvoiusly it's too early to tell. I would love to see a 2.3 BBK on E85 but I fear pushing 30+ PSI on the BBK will fall off in the upper RPM range. Either way it goes I think I'll be happy. I just hope there are more results from both of them. Especially on a 2.3 with or without E85.

The lag with the red on a 2.3 has got to be damn close to stock and if you plan to run e85 as often as possible then there is your answer!

From my last discussion with FP about that turbo. Its a new turbine wheel, and compressor wheel are slightly larger then the previous model. They also have 3 different options with the wastegates. The price stayed the same.

But that new green os putting down 500/500 on a 2.0 on E85 with quicker spool. Add a 2.3 & you get even quicker spool ;)

Just seems like the best of both worlds. I know I'll be forced to run 93 more than I'd like so I want something that will do E85 & 93 well

^ I know but that dyno chart seems really fishy....
shunderwunder
06-18-2009, 06:24 PM
This is why I want to see more results. It's also on a dynojet so the numbers are bound to be alot higher than a Dyno Dynamics or Mustang

I would be really skeptical about those numbers. Doesn't sound right at all. It really depends on what you are looking for out of the car as far as output goes. For comparison, my 37R wasnt making that much torque. That was on a 2.3RR block. Granted it was on pump and on a dynamics, I would like to know how they are getting 500 tq out of a factory size turbo on a 2.0. I would wait until there are unbiased results on that turbo. I don't believe anything released directly from FP because they ALWAYS inflate their numbers. I'm not saying not to get it, I'm just saying I would advise waiting until there are more results out there, but sounds like you had the same idea ;)

Wow, found the issue here. Is this the thread you saw?
http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-dyno-tuning-results/427963-new-fp-hta-green-517awhp-491ftlbs-e85.html
We do alot of business with Switzer. Their numbers are inflated beyond belief. Their "800hp" kit only made 600 on our dyno. Just fyi.

I'm not putting too much stock in those numbers either, but Buschur is pushing 500/500 on his new 2.3 Red E85 build & thier Mustang dyno so I wouldn't be suprised to see 500/500 on a dynojet with this turbo. Only time will tell.

Also notice the last part of that thread where he mentions how he blew his motor shortly after. I think that's a big part that went unmentioned.

^ tru dat. It coulda been tuned on the edge too agressively.

06-18-2009, 10:16 PM
That would be my guess. Granted you have a built block and would be fine. My point is just that numbers can be deceiving.
Perfect example, a customer of ours who was here yesterday told us he previously dyno'd at 500hp. His motor blew, so he built it and is now hoping to make more power. On our dyno he made 337 pump and 376 on c16. Dissapointing right? He called today and said the car feels much faster than before... What gives? You got me.

if anything it should perform as well as the original green.
cant go wrong with something that is already proven and youre comfortable with.
so i say BBK.
btw shearer now distributes his stock frame turbo tubular manifold. its purdy. and i think buschur or some reputable showed a gain of 20 whp peak on their dyno

I know from experienc too. I put down 367 on Top Speeds Dynojet. then after installing the FP4R's & MAF-T Pro I put down 349 on Dyno4mances Dyno Dynamics. The car was a ton faster than before the cams. I don't go by numbers too much, but they can give you a good idea where you stand. I'd like to re dyno my car @ Dyno4mance or Forged once it's tuned to get an idea what kind of gains were made.

It's on the FP site now & there are some new dyno sheets on the page too. It's looking pretty promising.

Hopefully there will be more results out by the time I'm ready to decide on getting the BBK or the HTA Green. That shearer mani looks amazing though and it's pretty impressive that it made like a 20 whp gain from just that. I believe it's got a pretty hefty price tag though.
