Ok guys I am wanting to lower the Evo... problem is I have no idea what springs to roll with. I just want some springs that will do me a good and won't give me any problems. I have a guy that wants to sell the Tein H-Tech springs for $80, but I'm not sure. So help me out guys...

S techs are more than likely going to blow out your shocks before too long. the h techs should be ok.

I would personally not go with Tein. They are too low for the Evo. Swift, GTWorx or Espilir would be better choices.

I agree. But it depends on what kind of set-up do you want.

Like me, I have Swift sports spring, performance is good but the drop is not good, I will switch to some good coils eventually because I'm not happy with the drop of my car.

You're right ... do you want a low drop or better handling? That's the choice. As I've stated elsewhere, coilovers can go low, but have to be kept very stiff to not negatively affect the handling.

The Evo's suspension is honestly designed for the stock ride height, or very near to it. You've got about .75" to play with before you need to modify the geometry to recover the roll center.

^ So Matt, what you're saying is that even with a modest drop like the Espelirs, I will be screwing up the geometry of the suspension? I figured I wouldn't lose performance with those springs.

Anything around an inch or less and stiffer than stock will help handling. Going lower will not unless you also change to extended ball joins to correct the geometry.

Well that sucks. I was hoping for an improvement.

Espilir aren't over 1" drop are they?

^Dude, no Swift? Brett get you a Whiteline roll center kit, you'll be good to go!

Ah ... the GTs are lower. You aren't going to see a big handling difference really with those stats ... you'll mainly just ride stiffer. I would assume just a hair less grip up front (outside wheel) than stock and more grip in the rear, so biased more toward understeer in and through a corner, but the stiffer rear will be likely to rotate on corner exit. Get the Whiteline roll center kit and it would really help you out and the car would be much more neutral.

For comparison, I'm lowered about .5" on all 4 corners (with the camber plates considered) and at about 290lb F and 325lb R. The front ride height is nearly ideal for the stock geometry ... a hair lower would technically be better, but likely not noticeable.

I think the Swift are really close to the RA springs. ~280F and ~305R with around a .75"-1" drop.

I will look into the Whiteline kit.

When talking about the whiteline kit, is it only for those with springs or CO's as well?

TouringBubble

It's for both. It replaces the lower ball joint in the front. It will help the handling of basically any car lowered more than .75" or so, no matter the method. Basically, you can go lower on a softer spring (which allows for more grip) while maintaining a proper roll center.
