Can somebody help me because I failed my emission today. I have no catalytic converter installed. I have no money right now to replace all my test down pipe with a cat back pipe. Does anybody know an inspector who can pass me? Thanks!

They sniffer them nowadays?
When I took my 9, I passed with turbo back exhaust (had a non-fouler installed, so no CEL).
I didn't exactly see what the guy was doing, he did verify the VIN like 3 times and was busy at the OBD port.
Paid $20 and went on my way.

are you throwing a cel? if not, go to herbert automotive in cumming... across from the theater. if you are throwing a cel, you can borrow my cat if that's the problem and you think it will fix it. mine is from an 8 if it will work for you. i work today but ill keep checking to see if you need it.

I also have a cat you can borrow. Shoot me a PM if you need it. But like Robb said the easiest way to get rid of the CEL is the anti-fouler mod. I have it and passed no prob just last week.

if ur throwing a CEL no matter what its bein thrown for it will fail. u dont need to put a cat on the car but most people look under to see if theres one on there. if u dont have a CEL im guessin its because they looked under ur car and saw theres no cat

Okay. Thanks for all the replies guys, I really appreciate it. My IX doesn't throw a CEL but you can smell the smog and it's different from a regular car. And my exhaust pipe is loud. The guy that inspected my car look under the hood and he told me that there's no Cat converter install in my car(which I know about it). He told me that everything is good except for that damn cat converter that's why I failed. I know there are some inspector out there that are laid back and don't check your cat, but where can I find them? I live off exit 14 GA 400.

Did you go to some Mom & Pop garage way out in the sticks? They take inspections super seriously. My suggestion is to go to a Jiffy Lube or other mass inspection station closer to ATL. A) those guys are busy and try to get people in and out as quick as possible so they are less likely to check for a cat. B) They do lots of inspections everyday so they are less likely to be thorough. I rode in to one on Roswell RD. loud as hell and stinking of raw gas. Passed @ Jiffy Lube no prob. In and out in 10 min. and I was the only customer. If for some reason that doesn't work just borrow a cat from one of the 3 members on here. That is worst case though.

That is a bad deal. I must be the luckiest mofo ever. I went and got my emissions on friday. I every so often get the P0300 due to my cossies. I passed emissions, and driving down the road 10 minutes later, the CEL pops. lol. damn I am lucky. Mellon should fix that dring our tuning appt this morning.:D

^ Same thing happened to me man. CEL was off for a while. Came on. Went off. Got emissions last week. Then came back on yesterday. Maybe I need to install a 2nd anti-fouler. I can't imagine why the light would be going on and off like that.

I heard last year that there's a guy in Jiffy lube off at highway 9 that will not inspect your cat and will clear you in a heartbeat. I dont know him or his name.....

Hey guys, I am in a similar situation, is there a place where I can buy a defouler locally? I'd really hate to re-install my cat for an emission.
And yes I am throwing a CEL :(
If anyone knows anyone who can pass me with this light on for some extra bucks, I can do that as well.

link doesn't work, I'll try to search on EvoM.
I may have a shop reset the light temporarily, so I can bring my car to emissions and hope for the best. You think doing that may tamper with my tune?
Thanks

You likely will NOT make it to the emissions joint to pass if you just reset it. your car will realize it sees too much exhaust.

If he did that , he still wouldnt pass because then the car has not gone thru the required cycles to pass. they would likely say, "your ecu isn't ready, come back"

I found the link, thanks. However, I failed the emissions today b/c the "ECU wasn't ready." By the time it was, the CEL light came on again. Anywho, I will be installing the defouler trick tomorrow morning, hopefully that will take care of it.
BTW, there is an emissions testing place off the intersection of Jimmy Carter & Buford Highway that has a gear nut working there, real cool guy. He will pass you as long as you don't have check engine light and your ECU is "ready."

Arent you military? don't you take the evo to your station? it also states:
You may also qualify for an extension for emissions testing if you are a member of the military,.............
To do this, present parking or repair receipts, student transcripts, military orders, or an affidavit from the military police stating that your car is with you at your current location.
That may be why they never ask!

ive only done the exemption once and it was for the corolla. i kind of slacked on it this year but i ended up bring the rides with me to ga to do emissions.
like i said though. i dont know. maybe they messed up somewhere. either way im legal and i win.
about that meth kit.
which kit is it exactly? any problems or issues other than that piece i need to replace?
how much do you want for the failsafe?
Evolvedgti
06-14-2009, 09:17 PM
Yeah, you win.
The kit is the SMC that BR sells. I bought in june 06, used it until around june 08. The kit is fine. You would not need anything but the piece, and honestly you may not need that if you could get it to seal. My problem was that the uip is round, or course and the washer is flat . I had steel pipes and couldn't get the pipe flat enough to seal. The failsafe was only used for about 3 months. I got it because I was tired of always worrying about the kit 'possibly' not spraying. It cuts to wastegate pressure if the system malfuctions. I can't think of the brand at this time. I got it, then decided to math my power with all boost. My Red build came to fruitation a little while later and I have the power and only feel one tank instead of two.
