only about 500 miles on my Evo X MR but will soon be looking to get it tuned.

Any recommedations for local tuners?

Any mods, yet?
A few members here have been tuned by Forged Performance in Marietta.
I believe they were all tuned with the Cobb Access Port unit.
Can't go wrong with them.

Dyno4mance has also tuned a few Evo X's... think they were tuning with Ecutek and they were up in Canton or somewhere up the i75north.

I just started modding my X GSR this week, waiting on some more parts and then I'll be heading to Forged for a tune :)

no, mods..

Probably won't mod much. Maybe intake and exhaust at some point but initially just going with a tune/reflash and calling it a day.

Any pros and cons in regards to the Cobb AP vs. EcuTek?

If you need a Cobb AP we can get you set up with that. Really cheap. Their off the shelf maps are ok. You can have a local tuner tweak that for you.

hey Zen....

I had an 05 MR tuned at topspeed about 3 years ago. I believe the guy's name was Tray.

You the same guy?

yep thats the same guy ^^^

Yup, same Tray.
He's w/ ZEN Motorsports now.

I believe the main advantage of Cobb Accessport is you can easily switch between maps.
Ecutek is pretty much go in for a tune and thats it. Cobb also has an array of tunes available online.

EVO X AccessPORT Features:
• Increase horsepower and torque with the touch of a button
• Easy installation requiring no tools or computer skills
• Display vehicle performance with 0-60MPH and 1/4 Mile clocks and Trap Speeds
• Monitor vehicle data such as MAF voltage, coolant temp, throttle position and much more.
• Built in Datalogging capability for multiple data channel recording.
• Troubleshoot by viewing trouble codes and resetting ECU.
• Valet and Anti-Theft modes help prevent abuse and theft
• Upgrade firmware and download calibrated maps over the internet
• Completely and easily uninstallable

Cobb AP unit will cost you right under $700 + cost of tuning.
Ecutek will cost $500 + tuning (Not 100% sure on this, I might be wrong).

Tunes easily available from Cobb - great advantage if your not close to a tuner/dyno.

yea i think the AP has come down now, seen it for 600 or 625 somewhere and they might be even cheaper if ya buy it through a perforamce shop and then let them tune your car dunno for sure though

Rob what mods you done so far?
Just got my Nisei upper & lower intercooler pipes last night.
Start the install but wasn't motivated enough to finish it up - I'll do that after work today.

Got a Greddy TI-C (single exit) catback last week (used) from a guy on evoxforums for cheep cheep. Sounds great and looks great.

Debating on the following...
AMS 02 Housing Downpipe Combo or Ultimate Racing O2 Housing Downpipe Combo.
Test pipe, mini muffler or hiflow cat.

Other then those I have Eibach springs, Works short shifter (love it!), road grime, bird poop and tint :)

Robb, I don't think you will have any troubles with either of those mods being UR, or AMS. Let me know if you want prices on them. I am a direct dealer.

Take care!

I've always went test pipe on my other cars, might just go the same route this time around.

I got the Matte black set, wanted the Nisei black (I had those on my IX MR and loved them) but they were out so Jed gave me discount on a matte black set. They look SICK!

Which intercooler do you have?
Any fuel mods? What did you dyno at (pm me if you dont want to post).

ZEN pm me a price on the AMS o2 downpipe please :)

I would recommend Touring Bubble or Mellon to do your tune...

Forgot to mention Matt (TouringBubble).
He's tuned quite a few guys on here. Not sure if he's touched any X's yet.

I got my tune at forged. It's almost awesome. I have had some problems! but the other guys seem to be fine.... Tuned on a Cobb AP as well.

I'd still recommend them though

^What kind of problems did you run into?

Jump23, I see that you mentioned you modded an 05 MR. Why not mod this time around? Will you be happy with just a tune?

The car runs great if im going all out WOT. but if im going 40 or so in 4th gear, and I give it gas... if it builds even low boost it can throw the car into limp mode..... I cant give it gas at all. The only fix is to immediately pull of the road and turn the car off for about 30 seconds, then turn it back on. It can be very dangerous, and i've been fortunate that i've been in places where I can pull off the road.

So since i mainly drive in those conditions, it kinda sucks having to be so careful.

That's something we need to fix for you. It should not do that at all and to the best of my knowledge this is the first reported case :( Let me know when/if you can swing by the shop and we will take care of it for you.

Thanks ryan. Like i said, it is driveable for sure, and pulls hard WOT. Boost is set at 25 psi I think... but it doesnt even get that high when it kicks into limp mode. It's not possible for me to swing by as I live 2+ hours away lol. But I appreciate your willingness to correct an issue. Grade A shop. =)

Perhaps we could set up something though!

ryanowarrior

damn that doesnt make any sense why it goes into limp mode like that

Jump23, I see that you mentioned you modded an 05 MR. Why not mod this time around? Will you be happy with just a tune?

I didn't too much with the 05 MR, intake, turbo-back exhaust and EcuTek reflash. I may do intake and exhaust on the X at some point also. My main concern is driveability and reliability. The way these cars are in stock form doesn't do them justice but a couple of conservative mods go a long way in getting them closer to "the best they can be".

Besides, the problem that "GoBoost" mentions above is a little scary and enough to give me reason to pause. Though that's probably a rare exception.

I can totally understand that. Especially when it's your daily commuter.

Ya I understand that it makes it hard living so far away :( Even if it pulls hard at WOT you should have no limp mode issue and we would like to correct the issue for you whenever you are able to. We want your car to run perfect, no issues at all ;)

Jump23, just remember that my car is the ONLY evo X that's had that issue. Please dont be discouraged from a good shop because of a fixable problem =)

i got tuned at Forged too. So far very satisfied. Ran the track twice already and haven't experienced any issue so far. I'd recommend Forged for the job.

Mellon Tuning

I would recommend Touring Bubble or Mellon to do your tune...

got an X coming for his second tune Thursday...it's amazing how terrible the stock tunes are on these. A local one was bucking and surging all through the RPM range, you can't go anywhere fast like that. The AFR was 9.5

we did a gtech test, it's bone stock down to the paper filter:

0-60 6.25
1/4 14.57 @ 95.06
60' 2.169
1/8 9.34 @ 75.42

Mellon Tuned fuel/timing only, no boost increase yet.

0-60 4.53
1/4 12.97 @ 108.67
60' 1.89
1/8 8.37 @ 86.52
