View Full Version : If you could have another car...

If you could have any other car realistically around the same price range of an Evo, what would it be? I'm not talking about fantasy cars here, I mean actual cars that you could actually purchase.
I have always wanted to track down a real Silvia as a nice project, but just never really went any further in finding out how to do it legally.

I'm with Ryano on this one, but since my Evo was purchased used & at the far end of my budget I'd have to wait a couple years for a used one. So as what I would most likely get a used STI since that was what I wanted for a while anyway. Or a Fox body mustang with lots of money left over for mods.

^^ yea i always wanted the 05 STI myself, thats what got me started into cars like ours. love the rumble of the STI

I like that idea ;) what year were you thinking?
Also considered one of the new 09 STi's myself. I test drove one and was actually impressed. Far more technology in them than there is in the Evo's.

Im thinking of picking up a 06 or 07/08 in say 2010 or 11. That should be in the 25-35k range by then! maybe. its a dream. I will probably get me another bike after i buy the wife a car here shortly!I just looked at craigslist and 01-03's are going for mid 20's currently. so two more years, it is likely!

Vauxhall VX220 Turbo, or Saturn Sky Redline if I couldn't get the Vauxhall. Otherwise, a used Elise. I'd also consider a new and modded Volvo C30.

Porsche RS America, Porsche 911 SC, or a track/ street Prepared 964 or 993. I can fix them for cheap so they are affordable to me.
PS non modded C30's are the price of a new Evo IX, around 30 grand for one with some options. Saturn??? Why not an S2000. You would not be disapointed.

A new C30 is like $28k nicely equipped ... my Evo was $35k. the Vauxhall is a MR drivetrain and boosted ... the S2K is not. :) S2Ks are also a dime a dozen and no one has the Vauxhall here. Obviously, there is a reason for that and why I said the Sky would be a second choice ... it shares many of the styling queues and the drivetrain.

I'd actually love to do an SC300 project. Drop a 1JZ-GTE and do it all JDM stylie! I'd love to do a good mix of bippu style mixed with drifter and actually drift the car. Either that, or now they are in the price range, but a 2001 GS300 and drop a 2JZ in it, but that I would just keep as a really fast bippu crusier!

Isn't the Sky/Solstice FR lay out though? Just clarifying?

So i take it you drove one? It would be way to tight for a daily right?

ya I drove one for a few hours on Road Atlanta. Amazing little car. It would suck to be a daily, but it's a blast as a weekend car. It's about as close as you can come to a full size go kart.

The Lotus is nice, but unfortunately I'm too big to drive it resonably. My knees are too close to the steering wheel. I'd love to get an Ariel Atom, but I don't think it will ever be in the cards. I doubt there is any more rome in it that an Elise/Exige though.

I would buy a Ford F-150 pickup truck. There's plenty of times throughout the year where I have to buy pine straw for the house or purchase something that doesn't fit in the Evo. It would be nice to have a truck to haul large items.

^ Suprisingly enough I miss my MINI for stuff like that. That thing has way more room than you would think. I remember getting strange looks when I was at Lowes loading it full of base board & then shut the hatch no problem.

A truck would definitely be nice. I have often needed to borrow someone's truck when the Evo just wouldn't cut it. Often times it was just a matter of the rear seats in the Evo not being able to lay down to allow access to the cabin of the car for longer items.
Call me crazy, but I really like the look of the new SS Camaro.

Its not that bad, you can find an 06-07 with 20k miles for between 40-50k in mint condition.

How about an Aston Martin Vantage V8? I'm shocked at how they've dropped in price to about 1/2 the 1st/2nd year new price. No back seat, but that's what sedans are for.

Used C6 Z06's are as low as $38,000 so in another year they will be worth it. I feel better paying $35K then $77K for the same performance. High miles don't bother me since i'm going to freshen up the motor anyways. :P

Settling for a used 2008 CBR 1000 RR and Honda Civic hatch back next year the year after that a S2000 as a daily driver. The year after that the Hatch gets a K Series and full JDM treatment (RHD and everthing). Wife wants a CRV next year (trying to convince her to get a MDX) and she wants to start an S14 project the year after.
