ok so i know that our TC is very picky about what kind of fluid we put in it and most people rec the factory fluid. has anyone else used or know about somthin else that will work?

I use AMSOIL severe gear. Works fine in the TC and rear diff.

I thought the fliuds were different in the "GSR" as opposed to the 6 speed MR.

I believe you are right, Brett. I have 'heard' that the 5 sp and six are very close, with the six just being a add-on. so i have 'heard' that the 6sp needs a slightly thicker fluid.

Per this thread(russellm)
http://forums.evolutionm.net/mitsubishiparts-net-wa/293622-fluids.html
the two do in fact need different fluids.
6 SPEED (W6MAA)
- Diaqueen Super Multi Gear 75W-85 or exact equivalent
- Diaqueen M/T Fluid - MZ313376 (1 gal)
- capacity 2.3 qts
5 SPEED (W5N51)
- Gear Oil API classification GL-4 SEA 75W-85 or 75W-90
- Diaqueen M/T Fluid - MZ313376 (1gal)
- capacity 2.9 qts
you know now that i look at it, the "MZ" is the same, but the W6MAA and W5N51 are different!

the reason i ask is because the dealer ONLY sells their TC fluid by the gallon and the TC only hold .7qt i just dont want to buy a gallon and only use a little bit of it

i use amsoil sever gear oil too. It should be the same for the tc for 6/5speed. I've used redline before too but didnt like it. amsoil ftw

I ordered a gallon of the Diaqueen and have used it repeatedly. That is a good bang for your buck.

The t-case on the GSR and MR's are the same. AMSOIL is good, but with the diaqueen it is the best bang for the buck like chem said. You pump it in, so you can get a few fills out of it.

i think i paid like $13-14 shipped for a quart of amsoil from oildoc on evom. I got a cheap pump at autozone for like 3-4bux that connects directly on the amsoil.

Yeah, I got the same price from the same guy ... Doc is great. Will ship to your door and gives good prices. I got the pump from AMSOIL, about $5. Same as whatever the local parts shop sells I'm sure. You'll use just over 1qt doing the TC and rear Diff.
And we're talking TC people, not transmission. The TC is the same for both ... it only differs between 03/05 and 05+ because of the ACD.
And FWIW, I use AMSOIL 75W-90 in my tranny as well ... yes, with the 6-speed. No problems. The recommended 75W-85 is actually thinner than the 75W-90. But, AMSOIL has shown again and again that their products flow very well, so I have no worries about my fluid choice.

I have sold quite a bit of the amsoil fluids. But I always try to sell the OEM Mitsubishi fluids. Supermulti gear for the trans, and Diaqueen LSD oil for the Transfercase, and Rear LSD.
You will have a happy drivetrain with that! :)

I have always put Diaqueen in the differentials and my car has loved me for it. I did put Redline in the transmission though.

Oh, as an update, I'm still on the Amsoil fluids I changed to at 17,000 miles. Tranny, TC, Diff and brakes. All still great. No grinding/clunking in anything. It's about time to change it again ... probably do that before the auto-x season starts up.

x2. I've ran nothing but Redline fluids for the last 3 yrs with great success. I'm not easy on the car, given the Evo gets a new clutch every 10k miles.

You can also get the redline local if you're close to atlanta. Barnett performance sells it for around the same price as summit

I've also seen the Redline Shockproof "guacamole" results on other cars. I can't trust something that comes out looking like that.

02-05-2010, 01:27 AM
yeah someone posted pics here on evoa.... i have never had a prob with it doing that and neither has anyone i know using it... and if im not mistaking buschur suggest that fluid in their trannys..... i believe redline should be changed more often then most ppl do it so that might be a contributing factor.... but im deff going to continue use of it:) i cant explain how much i think this stuff helps... and when i did clutch installs when i had my shop i used it in my customers cars and everyone loved the way it shifted so much smoother and the little wines u get from the tcase go away...

I'll probably run Redline from here on based on the success I've had from the last few yrs on it.
Bomjoon- I believe it will become green if mixed with another type of fluid. I've seen that happen a few times personally with some of my guys. Is there a chance this could have happened with yours maybe?

In all honesty, I truly haven't raced it too hard for the last little while. All of my time goes into making others go fast now.

i just got finished changing my tranny, tcase, and rear diff fluid to redline shockproof fluids... and i forgot how badass this stuff is..... the fluid that came out looked brand new and "clear" and im assuming oem fluids were being used considering the person who owned it before me dads owned carraige mitsu... but anyway i was having probs putting the car into gear when it was cold and had a "dry" feeling when driving ... and now it goes into gear so smoothly when cold and no more "dry" feeling.... cant wait to get all my shifter bushings in the mail now!!
