Our first official S2kAtlanta track day for 2009 will be on Sunday May 17th at Little Talledega Gran Prix (www.tgprace.com (http://www.tgprace.com)).
This is an excellent course for beginners and first time track goes because of it's long runoffs and short straights, 100+ mph. Don't be fooled however, the course is very demanding and requires your full attention at all times. I have not mastered that blasted decreasing radius turn!
Official timing will not take place however drivers are free to time themselves.
Requirements to run TGP are as follows:
Long pants and closed toe shoes
Snell 95/M2000 or higher rated helmet
No loose cabling or or car body parts
Car numbers (will be asigned day of event if you don't already have some, Painters tape work fine)
Pricing will be $190 for all participants.
This price will get you a full day of track time and will get you a minimum of 2.5 hours of seat time. Estimated seat time this year will be closer to 3 hours. Payments can be made via paypal to events@s2katlanta.com.
A total of 25 spots are currently available. A minimum deposit of $125 is required to hold your spot. All payments are non-refundable, it is your responsibility to sell your spot if you have paid and cannot make the track day. Final payment is due no later than Friday May 8th or you will risk losing your spot.
Those attending need to be at the track no later than 7:00am Central time. Tech inspection will start once the gates are open and the drivers meet will start at 7:45am. If you miss the driver's meet and/or tech inspection, your track sessions will be delayed until it is taken care of.
If you plan on attending this track day, post up so your name can be added to the list. Remember, no spot is considered reserved until you have made either the down payment or paid in full.
Please post up when you pay so that i can add yo uto the list. I'll be checking this thread every couple of days (more often as I have time).
**************************************** ************* UPDATE **************************************** *************
We need instructors for this event. If you're willing to instruct the novices and first-timers, your cost is only $95. Please post up if you're willing to instruct. You must have at minimum 6 track days under your belt in order to qualify as an instructor.

I may go to this if my car is back down here ;) Not talking about the MR either lol. ;) Please keep us updated on how many spots are left as I may need to hold off as long as possible before making my final decision. It all depends on whether or not my car is done before then.

We do this every year. We run 5 groups with 5 cars each. There's plenty of room and plenty of seat time.

Tony,
This is Milburn, guy with the 05 apex silver VIII MR
Nice to meet you at the Avenue meet !!
IIRC TGPR had quiet time on sunday ams. No running til at least 10 am. Still doing it that way?
Also will there be safety/fire/EMS available ? SA-2000 work for you ? :-)
Will passengers be allowed if they have helmets ?
I am considering going, just trying to save money for it .
PS do you know Jay Parcon..has a IX and S2000 IIRC...heavy SCCA autoxer

Milburn! Hey it was good to meet you as well.
I don't think they have the quiet time anymore.
Yes, we will have EMS/Ambulance there.
SA-2000 should be good. Passengers will be good if they have helmets.
Come on out. I'd love ot see that evo on the track!
I haven't met Jay, but I've heard his name many, many times.

Would it be hard for me to do this if i've never tracked before? I'm really interested. Just kinda nervous about it. Only thing i've done before is drag strips. Sounds like a lot of fun and i should start getting sundays off in may.
tonybell_57
04-15-2009, 01:42 AM
Hi Sam. That's exactly why we have instructors on hand. There's nothing to be nervous about. Just listen to your instructor and do what they tell you to do, and you should be fine.
Just remember that this is not a race. It's High Performance Driver Education (HPDE). The object is to learn the track and safely explore what you and your car are capable of. There is nothing to prove to anyone. This provides a safe environment to drive your car at high speeds legally - instead of on public roads.
Come on out. It's a lot of fun.

So is the instructor going to be in the car with you? Or do we get like a headset or something? I wanted to bring a passenger so i was curious.
tonybell_57
04-15-2009, 10:42 AM
The instructor will be in the car with you. After he says you're ok to drive without an instructor, your passenger can ride with you.

I'll be down at TGPR this weekend working the SCCA event. Free track time ... woo hoo! I've driven about 2 laps there in a friends car (lost the UICP after that) and it was fun, even for that short time. I'll post my lap times from this weekend if possible.

It is a blast. I did my first track day last April and like you, I was nervous too. I spent time with two different instructors in order to get the benefit of their different driving styles. My first lap was 1:23 and my last lap was 1:18 AND I mastered 3 of the turns. My 1st track day!
Trust me, you will have the time of your life and kick yourself for not doing it sooner.

this is one of the more forgiving track available. Off track normally will still able to drive the car home. One of the GT-R was on this track last year and he got best lap of 55 secs. the amazing thing is he was the first time to do track.

oh, btw, S2K Atlanta's instructors are very knowledgeable. I'm sure the novice can learn a lot from them.

I believe it's the SE Division Time Trials event. Lots of details on http://www.alscca.org.
I rode a lot last time I was there and instructed my friend. It was just a local club track rental. I didn't time anything, but I remember the fast guy there (FD3S) was in the 1:05 or 1:07 range on R-Comps. It was his first time on the new layout. There was a RX7/Supra/GTR meet there last year and the fast GTR was running 1:05 (Wet).
I get 20 minutes and I'm on street tires. If it's dry, I want to see 1:07. I've got the power to do it ... The local TT guys run 1:10+, so I really just need to beat them. =P

So, I don't know, but I can only guess that the times I'd heard on the GTR in the wet was completely wrong. There were fully prepped race cars there this weekend that barely broke past 1:05. No way a GTR did it in the wet completely stock with no experience.
I managed a 1:13.4 or so going by my data logs. I also earned my "Brownbos" ... or "Blackbos" actually ...

yeah. my bad. I posted wrong time. It was 1:02 in wet. I guess I thought they went fast then real. :D

I don't remember hearing that from you ... I heard it from a friend who was there with his FD. Seriously ... 1:02? That's insane. How were they timed?
manchi
04-22-2009, 09:13 AM
they were using 3 stop watches to time. the 1:02 time was achieved on the time attack for the 3 fastest cars of the day.

We just found out that TGPR is charging $5 at the gate. This is to cover the cost of the gate worker. They no longer allow us to have someone on the gate.

Good news folks! We got the $5 gate fee waived!

Hey, just wondering if anyone happened to get lap times? I know its not a timed event but did anyone happen to have a vbox or even just get stop watch times?

I wanted to compare times with the car/setup that got the time. A list of random people's names isn't quite what I was looking for but thanks (and good job btw).
I only wonder because I ran 1:14.6 in the pouring rain and wanted to compare to other evo 8-9 times.

FWIW, I was running 1:05's last time I was out (997 C2S stock).
And the previous post was referring to Talladega Speedway times, not TGPR. :)
