It was my pleasure Brett. You're a hell of a guy with a great family. I only wish that your sidemarkers turned out better. Did you have any luck fixing your boost gauge?
For those that would like some help doing theirs, I'm in town until 17 April. After that I move back to my house in Clarksville. Actually next weekend will be the only weekend that I will be available.

An afternoon isn't long enough to paint both the headlights and taillights.

The fronts take about two hours. You would need one can of Krylon Fusion black paint, one tube of clear silicone sealant, and some flat tipped screwdrivers.

I didn't learn to do them until about two months back. The fronts are actually easier than the tails. The are also less messy. The hardest part of the headlights is reassembly.

Thanks tripp. I also think it turned out well.
Has anyone tried resurfacing the outside of the headlights? i got a few scratches in mine, one or two are kinda deep.
Also did you do the smoked sidemarkers? i had saw a post on evom with the vendor selling the amber ones for like 40bucks :o but they would look hot on a WW evo.

We tried smoking the sidemarkers but had difficulties with the outcome. I don't know if it was the humidity or if the can of VHT Nite Shades went bad. It was the same can that I used on mine but Brett's came out almost an ashy color. If you are interested in smoked sidemarkers do not pay to have someone else do them. You can buy a can of the Nite Shades for ~$10 and do them yourself. The removal is very easy. You can see the results in the picture of my car that Brett posted.

I bought some paint thinner today to remove the paint on the side markers and rear reflectors. I will redo them on a less humid day. The heads and tails = sexy in the daylight! I can't thank you enough Dan. Btw guys, this was an all day event. It takes a lot of patience. I wish we had 2 dremels so I could help with the cutting of the glue on the tails. Yes, I finally got the boost gauge working again. The hose kept popping off from the ferrule.

yea if its raining it will mess with the paint a little bit. how did u do the tailights? did u have to cut them open?
em1toevo
03-29-2009, 11:43 PM
We actually had to cut the glue, sealing the lens cover to the taillights, by using a dremel to get them open. The paint for the heads and tails was perfect even with that level of humidity. However, the paint we used for the sidemarkers just couldn't handle the wet weather.

yea iv smoked ALOOOT of tailights and i learned the hard way that it doesnt work to well in the rain. u can also use a paint called "window tint" u can get it fom hobby town, not hobby loby.

It's no problem to pop the sidemarkers out and redo them. At least the hard stuff is over with.

^Thanks. There are a few tiny blemishes on the tails(my fault), but they are hardly noticeable. I am very satisfied with the results.

I definitely will! I plan on doing it in the next few weeks.
I did mine amber the other day while it was raining. To me they look amazing! Here is a few shots of it.
Finally installed my wideband also, check out the mounting!!!!

Good job on the ambering. Are you going to keep that tape on your wideband to hold it down?
For now, i gotta get a change to work on some fiberglass. Not sure what to use for the circle to fiberglass over though...
jktripp

cut out a pc of cardboard (with the cirlce in it). hole will need to be a bit larger than the guage and then wrap it in aluminum foil. fiberglass strips and resin on the aluminum foil. once it dries, the aluminum foil (and cradboard) peels right off of the dried fiberglass. sand the fiberglass and repeat fiberglass and resin sanding each time til it is to your satisfaction
thanks for the tip!! i have done a bit of fiberglass work for panels and what not but never worked much with like circles and stuff.

Are you going to mount it in the same place as it is now, or are you going for another location?
i probably will keep it in the same place, its pretty easy to read and i used the ashtray as a coin holder before.

Brett, I just checked out your Evo Atlanta sticker in the picture you told me about. It looks good there.

How will you remove the old sticker......hairdryer? Are you going to install the new one in the same location?

I just take a razor blade and gently scrape it off. It doesn't hurt the glass at all.
