I haven't come across much info on the 4B11 and basically only know that it's supposed to be abt 50lbs lighter that the 4G63.

But what is to become of the engine thatI have become so intimate with, through two cars and 7 years of heartache and triumph???

I'm hoping thatthey send it out to pasture in a future iteration of the Eclipse, like the AWD Ralliart concept:

in any case, any info on the new powerplant would be appreciated....I hope I don;t have to trade up :(

In my opinion the eclipse body style from 97 to 99 was the best one ever.

^^^ Agreed! But the 4G63 is an iron block where the 4B11 is an aluminum block. Thats where the weight savings comes in. Other than that i dont know too much about it, but the 4G63 is close to a 20 year old engine.

If it ain't broke-don't fix it. I am perfectly happy with the 4G63. I agree it is a dated platform, but so are the other major engine swaps that people do (eg. RB26, 2JZ, etc...). I am just not yet totally sold on the Evo X.

I totally agree with you. Every engine out there is dated. Look how long nissan used the SR20 for and i guarantee they will be using the VQ for just as long if not longer. I also want to see what the Evo X will do before i pass judgement on it.

I agree, I think that Mitsu tried to go back to it a little with this current incarnation

I think the age of is a testament to it's quality and durability.
If I could have my heart pulled out and replaced with one, I probably would.

aluminum vs Iron. i think i would surely keep my IRON block. lightweight is good but that just means my car will be stronger than the X...........hehe. shit starts to go wrong when somone wants to change something that doesent need to be changed..
