Tomorrow I'm going to buy a new Macbook and need someone with a college ID to come with me so I can get the education discount. I'm going to the Alpharetta store. Will anyone with a college ID be around to come with me and help me save $100?

For helping out, I will give you a high five and make you my best friend for the entire time we're in the store!

Seriously, I will really appreciate the help!

Why a Macbook?

I was wondering the same thing. I am also in the market for a new laptop. I'm looking at the Toshiba A305, Dell S17, or the Gateway MD7818U. I've read alot of good things about those three for the price range I'm interested in.

Toshibas are great! Mine lasted me for quite a few years of heavy use. That included lots of school work and porn :D. Only bad thing was the battery got worn down after about 4 years.

I still have an old ass Dell, the battery is bad, the 2nd power cable is now going on it too. I might get another prior to deploying, if the wife lets me.......

All lithium ion batteries will just not hold charge after a while. Having one last more than four years is amazing anyway you put it. Unless you are doing multimedia editing on a high scale, there is no reason to buy a Macbook. If you or anyone wants to save a few bucks from buying a computer go to Dell Outlet: http://www.dell.com/content/default.aspx?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh&dgc=IR&cid=11343&lid=312680

I just traded my Wii for a Dell Inspiron 1520. 1.66 core 2 duo w/ 2 ghz of RAM. So far not a bad comp. It was used of course and it doesn't seem to have speakers or something to do with the sound driver. Regardless it has speaker jacks, so I can use it on the plane for movies.

You should trade it for an Inspiron 1525. Miles better than the 1520. Sadly the 1520 never really came with a good video card. It does have speakers though on all models. If you can listen to your music or whatever on headphones then it's not a driver issue. Probably just some bad hardware. 1.66 also has a pretty low cache rate, but 2 gigs of ram is more than enough with your current stats. As long as it gets the job done. :)

My criteria is at least 2 ghz Intel Dual Core, 3gb ram, 320 gb hard drive, and a max price of $700. I currently have an IBM Thinkpad that I've had for around six years. I bought my wife a Dell and my son a Toshiba within the past year. I like both brands. I know that Gateway has a good model that beat the others in the ZDNet comparison. I'm still researching.
