Well guess its about time to mod the evo!! Think we will be keeping this one a while!! The sti is going rotated soon and i figured the evo has to be able to keep up!!LOL As she sits now its completely stock. Figured we would do as much as possible with out changing the turbo. Lmk what you guys think!! :)
O and its a 9 mr.

Exhaust, intake, boost controller, cams, fuel pump, injectors, FMIC etc. Will put you close to or over 350 with the stock turbo. If you want to go with E-85 you can easily make 400.
I guess by rotated you mean your going big turbo on the STi?

You begin by bringing it to the shop, letting me hook it up, then letting us tune it on our new dyno, with our new software :D

This sounds about right, but stock injectors are fine unless you run E85 or go with a bigger turbo.
Start with intake, exhaust, boost controler & gauge. Then stuff like FMIC, IC pipes, cams, fuel pump. Just make sure to get tuned after any major mods.

Also, a bigger LICP like the AMS model would help with spool time.

I actually would suggest bigger injectors for cams on a IX. I run 100%+ IDC on the stock injectors without cams. And, since it's a IX, you can get 350 on the ground without cams and on 93.
And please don't get BC cams ... especially the 280s.

Is it a waste to even start basic modding??? Looking for about 400 wheel. So should i just go big from the begining??? 30 or 35?? keep in mind its still gotta be tame enuff for a hot blonde chick 2 drive!!! lol
Hikaru
03-11-2009, 12:31 AM
Well the thing is, to support the power of a 30 or 35r all the basic mods are kinda necessary.
TripperFx3
03-11-2009, 12:32 AM
What Hikaru said. And 400 on a IX is easy and can be done with the stock turbo if your using race or e-85. If not go with a FP red turbo. It's capable of over 500.
Hikaru
03-11-2009, 12:35 AM
Word. What Tripper said. Get a Red if you want 400 whp all day long on 93.

man, we can rework that 9 turbo some :D
amonsta727
03-11-2009, 09:36 AM
Ya I was gonna put a red on my sti but just wasnt shiny enuff!! lol Of course you need the basics but for instance for me to go rotated i had to sell all my stage 2 sti parts!! Like dp up intake etc. So kinda felt i should just went big from the begining! Thats Y iasked about going big from the get go??

I'm not sure about the STi, but with the Evo, you have to have a foundation of upgrades before you slap a bigger turbo on your car. Everyone else pretty well summed up the path of upgrades to build such a foundation.
Chemwarrior
03-11-2009, 10:12 AM
Exactly. You need the supporting mods in order to take full effect of a larger turbo. It doesn't do any good to have a larger turbo if it can't breath, exhale, and get fed effectively.
TouringBubble
03-11-2009, 10:18 AM
If you go big turbo later, you will definitely need a new manifold, intake and turbo outlet (O2 housing). You can purchase other mods with the plan to go big, like choosing injectors or a FMIC that will support more power.
amonsta727
03-11-2009, 11:36 PM
Perfect!!! Just wanna get this thing started right and thanks to you guys it will!!! So Whats the first thing?? Timing belt is due so???
TripperFx3
03-12-2009, 12:00 AM
If you have to do the timing belt you might as well take advantage of labor and get cams if you can. Not the best 1st mod to do, but you'll be saving yourself a shit ton of money. If you can go ahead and do all the basics along with the cams such as intake, exhaust, boost controller, etc. I know it's a lot, but it is up to you. If nothing else just take it slow and do it in stages after you get the timing belt done.
So 1st stage would be intake, full turboback/O2 housing, and tune.
Next up would be cams, injectors and an intercooler if you can afford it (intercooler not necessary until you get a big turbo though) and then retune.
Finally you can choose to either go big turbo or if 400 is your goal do e85 like mentioned before if it's near you. We have a guy here in Reno thats making 405 on a DLL graph on a IX with just bolt ons, NO CAMS and 91 pump. Heres his thread:http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-dyno-tuning-results/399515-fp-green-91-oct.html
Cool guy to. Going to have drinks with him tomorrow and hopefully meet a hot girl at the bar :D

Cams, Injectors, Fmic, IC Piping FP, Green/Red, TB Exhaust, Flash/Tune, Boost controller, and Exhaust Manifold might suffice. Maybe some headstuds too.

lol I just have to find one thats not a crazy cheating bitch... Long story... lol. Regardless heed the advice. Since your doing the timing belt you may as well do the cams and I forgot headstuds if you can and then follow up with a tune, but your obviously not going to get the most out of the cams until you can free up the exhaust and intake.

I am a BR guy, maybe the only one on the site. even if you don't like their parts, check out their upgrade sequence. It is pretty much what the guys here have stated, but will give you a 6 stage build up of where you may want to go.

didn't know if you have an VIII or IX, so here is the first page.

So guess ill start with exhaust!! Is brand a factor?? Not really a brand nut except for clothing!!!lol I had megan on the sti but switched to vibrant. Only cuz i was bored!!! Do like the side angle though and my get a jdm bumper soon. Suggestions???? Thanks guys!!
TripperFx3
03-16-2009, 02:33 AM
Brand does matter depending on how much power you want to make. The Megan for the Evo is good and makes good power. I believe Brett (EM1toEvo) has it. The ones that make the most power seem to be the Buschur, AMS, and ETS 3.5in exhaust, but they are all quite loud! I had a Buschur race TBE when I 1st got my evo and it was honestly to loud, so I changed it for my buddies Injen DP, gutted cat and HKS Hi-Power. The HKS Hi Power goes from 2.75in at the cat to 3in. It truly is preference though. The Buschur is also one of the lightest exhaust on the market if that helps make you decision. I personally didn't like the look of the buschur either.
If you go with a JDM bumper, from my understanding, most of the exhaust have to be cut to fit anyways, so it really doesn't matter. Check EvoM though. I believe they have a JDM bumper exhaust fitment thread
Hikaru
03-16-2009, 04:18 AM
I have a Megan TBE and like it a lot. Sounds great, looks great, fits great, full 3 inch stainless piping....what's not to like. Price is real good too. I have thought of switching to the HKS Carbon ti purely for looks but can't seen to justify the price.
Dangeruss
03-16-2009, 05:04 AM
Yep, if you're going to go JDM bumper you will need to cut down your exhaust or order one that fits the JDM bumper.
TouringBubble
03-16-2009, 08:36 AM
Yup, you can get a JDM exhaust ... I had to extend my exhaust for the US bumper ... lol. I have the Monster Sport exhaust for the VII.
If you get the "JDM Angled" exhaust, do it for the increased flow and not the "JDM" look though ... please.
It hasn't been mentioned, but the Jun BL exhaust is pretty nice.

AMS makes a catback for the JDM rear now. I love my AMS exhaust. The Quality it top notch. I think if you're gonna get a JDM rear anyway than this is the way to go so you don't have to modify an exhaust later. I would think you will need to get the bumper at the same time so there is no fitment issues. They don't show it on thier site as available as a full TBE, but I'm sure they'll work it out for you if you call them since it uses the same downpipe & test pipe/cat as the standard exhaust. Heres the link.

Man U guys over here really respond!!! Its like pullin teeth when talking stis!!! lol Ha may be ill buy a x mr!!! They are like giving them away!!! But for now Ill check into those exhausts. I like the megan only because it comes in black!! Stealthy but still gets the job done
shunderwunder
03-16-2009, 09:51 AM
There's not much stealthy about an Evo;)
TouringBubble
03-16-2009, 10:12 AM
There are a couple other stealth exhausts out there. But, you can always get whatever you want and mask/paint it with high-temp black for the same effect. Easy fix.

Any1 know anything about dc downpipes??? Or better yet any downpipe suggestions. also intakes and o2 housings. Just looking for some brand reccomendations?? Thanks
TripperFx3
05-05-2009, 01:39 AM
The way I've always looked at it is a DP, is a DP. Its all piping at least on that end and as long as their aren't a crap ton of resonators (not common in a DP anyways) then it's going to make power. As I understand with the DC sports DP its also a cat delete as well, so its a bonus there. I'd stay away from the HKS because its not a true 3 inch. I believe its 2.75 same as their exhaust. Which I have the HKS cat back exhaust and it is nice a quiet and the reduced piping size netted me some gain in spool due to a bit of added back pressure over my Buschur.
For O2 housing I'd pick a good brand there. Nothing worse than having an O2 housing crack on you. The part itself isn't expensive, but its a bitch of a job to install. Megan do make good power and from what I've seen don't crack and for the price it can't be beat, but if you want the best gains go with the EPM O2 housing w/ the divorced wategate dump. Its loud as hell though. If you just want baller you can go with Tomei though lol.
For intake I'm a huge supporter of the Apex'i as it makes good gains and has the best filtration of all the intakes on the market (at least it used to may not be anymore). Someone on EvoM did a intake test on which made the most power, so you may want to look for that.

Yes, Buschurs did have good gains. If you are talking just the filter, the BR filter is nothing more than the vibrant filter. the pipe is theirs, but the filter is 'borrowed'
